Did anyone get in on an economy allocation today? I managed to get one this time around so packed up 5 cards that I will ship out tomorrow. It says 90 day turnaround, which for $50 is obscene but these are 5 cards I don't need to see for 90 days so I'll give it a shot. Not sure if I can get another allocation on Thursday without these being received by PSA or not but I'll try.

I tried, but after sitting in the waiting room for an hour, it dropped me about 2800 in line. I think it decreased to about 1000 before it said it was now full.

I did get in on the first one in December, and my cards are still sitting in Research and ID since January 5. I’m still a little skeptical they will hit the 90 day turnaround, but we’ll see.

Also, $50 is obscene, but at least I got dual grading for all mine included before they announced they are charging extra for that.

"$50 is obscene, and I waited over an hour to pay it, and it sold out when at least 1000 people still wanted to pay it."

    LOL

Is this $50 allocation (lottery) open to everyone, or just Silver Collectors Club Members? I was under the impression that if you pay the $99 for the Silver Collectors Club Membership you can start submitting under the $50 level whenever you want.

You need to be a current collectors club member. If you get an allocation it shows up as available in the “submit” area and limits you to 5 cards. It is definitely a lottery, not a free for all

Good to know... I almost pulled the trigger on a membership thinking I would be able to submit right away.

So, you need to be a current CC member but you still need to “win” an allocation but you can’t do that unless you’re a paid member. I got in today with 59:38 and was 978 in the queue. My buddy was 59:24 and was 37xx and didn’t get an allocation.

@MarshallFaulk28 the 20% upcharge on autos is a total scam. Not that I love the idea of paying more to grade based on value of the card anyway, but if I have a 2020 Mahomes auto worth $500 and the dual is $120 instead of $100 why then is a 2017 Mahomes auto worth $5000 now $720? The auto is now $120 to authenticate even though it's the same auto. It makes no sense to me. It should be more to grade and authenticate the auto but if I send in singed memorabilia the auto authentication itself doesn't cost more because the item is worth more, it's based off the player. Just say an auto grade is an extra $10 or whatever that TPG in Dallas does. :). The tuxedo guys don't even charge extra and give the auto a grade...

@jeffcbay You can submit right away but I don't think you even need to be a member anymore to do the regular and express services. You only need the membership to get in on the lottery and get an allocation. I think PSA really missed the mark on this as the memberships were extended for people who signed up prior to the shutdown and no other memberships were being sold. Then they open the lottery but at the same time open the memberships up to everyone (with no offer of anything like in years passed, vouchers, supplies, messenger bag, book etc) Just the "right" to be able to maybe get an allocation of 5 cards, maybe. I feel like they should have done what they are doing but only for those who still had extended memberships. GIve them something for all this wait. Instead anyone willing to pay the $99 is now in the queue with those that have been suffering the whole time. Just leaves a bad taste for me...

  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,950 ✭✭✭✭

@envoy982 yeah I've already been submitting under the Regular and Express levels. I guess the verbiage on the CC membership Join Page was confusing to me. The only thing that was holding me back from joining was the fact that there were no vouchers for signing up. I would always sign up for the package that came with 15 vouchers because that helped me recoup the money spent on the membership. I would even sell the sealed SMRs to make back a little more money. Now it's just a lottery to maybe get five $50 spots. Not worth it yet (for me), and that's probably PSA's point anyway. They're not ready to fully open back up, they're just trying to gauge interest and (like most sales businesses) build their backlog of "purchase orders".

I realize supply chain issues have become worse. Millions of cards were submitted. Offices were closed at times and employees were certainly sick and couldn't come into the office. But I just can't give PSA a pass. I'm not an old timer but I've been at a fortune 200 company for 20+ years so I understand business a little. If PSA resale values weren't the highest in the industry prior to the pandemic they would be out of business based on their management and business practices over the last 2+ years. They sat on their hands for way too long while changing CEO's, and then made virtually no positive impact with any business decision they have made that I can see. I'd go as far as to say it's only become worse. Customer service is a nightmare and card grades are inconsistent across the board. They haven't done anything that I've seen to retain their loyal customers either. Basically seems like a "if you don't like go somewhere else attitude".

With multiple millions of dollars of cards and grading fees sitting in a warehouse for over a year, I just don't understand why they wouldn't have been proactive and expanded operations outside of their extremely expensive and anti business California offices. Why in the world would anyone think that is a good location for putting a card into plastic ? In all their years of business they haven't opened an office in say Texas where there are plenty of people to hire, is business friendly and astronomically less expensive. I can say unequivocally they have lost me as a customer. Sure, I only submit 100 cards or so a year, but I've been doing it for a dozen or more years and I was an involved passionate collector. No more attempting to set build for me, and heck it's even driven me further from the hobby as a whole. Sorry for the rant, every now and then I check in to see no movement on my cards that have now been at PSA for 380 days and get fed up...

pre pandemic - I was good for a few hundred every month. So a good customer, not massive, but they solely had my business. I have 6 subs there now. I have about 50-100 that I have set aside that I may sub, but may is the operative word. I do not collect anything in any other slab, but my days of bulk submitting are behind me. The issues here are clear but to restate this is where PSA lost me.
    1. Card grade consistency. (it is atrocious, at lower prices I could deal with it. I have submitted high end cards 2003 Topps (LeBron James original grade PSA 8 -- cracked out PSA 10. 1980 Topps Rickey Henerson original grade PSA 4 cracked out PSA 7) and low end with bumps of 1-2 grades on a regular basis. I only cracked them out because the grading was laughably poor. At $8-20 I could play this game with limited complaints. Now it is impossible. PSA botches it you are out $100+ Sorry, not sorry.
    2. Lead times - The 6 orders I have there were received at PSA in early February and March. 1 of the 6 hit Assembly earlier this week. 3 of the others have been in Stage 4 since Mid October, and the the 2 from March just recently hit the grading stage
    3. Complete cluelessness on where your market share comes from. It comes from guys like me. I do not want it if it is not in a PSA holder, even despite their flaws and scandals I am a true believer. I have roughly 1300 PSA graded cards in my collection and do not value any of their competitors. They have done nothing to keep my business. Nothing and you would not have to do much, because I am pretty much locked in. Instead they change their model to embrace flipper boi group submitters like the guy that just went bankrupt. Shrewd.

All this to say I have seen the market normalizing over the last six months and sooner or later they are going to want to embrace their core collector customer again, but the landscape has changed and we may not be there for them when that time comes.

    @Frozencaribou

Entered 4/28/21 and just hit grading today? That leads me to believe the backlog on the stuff received in March is even worse than I thought. My stuff was received in Feb and entered 4/7, hit grading end of October. So your cards were ~20 days behind me in received and entered but 90 days behind me in entering the grading stage.

  • FrozencaribouFrozencaribou Posts: 1,094 ✭✭✭✭✭

Yeah, you read that right! Just entered grading today. Who knows how long this stage is going to last considering how long it’s been so far.

Depressing when I’m building sets and want them in certain grades. Do I buy a 10 or wait 9 more months to see if my card is a 10? Especially if the card in question is fluctuating. We are all in the same boat. Uggh

  • envoy982envoy982 Posts: 388 ✭✭✭

Same boat. I have a half dozen HOF fb rc’s for my registry set and another 100 different for the set but those probably won’t end up at PSA for a year or more unless they do a registry special for $10

  • the good news for the last 2 posters is that PSA does not operate on the FIFO principle so there is a good chance some of these dubs could fly through a stage or too. During this painful year, I have seem massive inconsistencies. some orders seem to never hit grading and then when they do they literally move to assembly in a week or 2. then I have seen orders that sit in grading for 6 months. it is really anyones guess but one thing for sure, we can NOT extrapolate the time in 1 part of the process to give us a good estimate of another part and we can not make any assumptions based on other orders

I am with you. really would like to grade some 1993 Ultra Strahan 1993 SP Lynch and others but only an idiot would stand in line and hope to get them in at $50. I really do not want them in any other holder, or as a PSA 8 to be honest. It is much easier to just buy it already graded.

It's simple for me and less stressful as well. Across the board,as to the credo I've lived by and spent my hard earned money on. If I pay for a service and said service is not delivered I take my business elsewhere. Sure, in some instances I may allow a second chance that's justified, but that's it. But I can understand/sympathize with my fellow collectors that each situation has different elements to consider. Good luck to all of you while waiting.

NO. And guess it is because I am not a social media whore ,,
See the below ? What happened to notifying people via email?
I am not on social media- so I get penalized ??
How do we access the link if EMAIL is all we have to get PSA notifications?
Do I have to go to PSA's link under the "Hobby Talk" drop down or something?

Would love an answer from someone . While being computer literate, in no way am I signing my privacy away for the sake of "allocations". Already get enough 3rd party spammers from people who bought PSA's email lists. Last thing I need is more spam.

How do I get to the waiting room? What is the link?
Links will be distributed on PSA’s official social media accounts one hour before the start of each event.Follow @PSAcard on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to access the link

That would be great- for someone who uses social media. I do not. Again- how do people apply- the Hobby talk drop down links to see those notifiers?

    Thanks-

I am now into the been over a year waiting subs. Like some other comments I don't see how they can accept more subs (and promise quicker turnarounds)while the backlog still exists.

Gretzky,Ripken, and Sandberg collection. Still trying to complete 1975 Topps baseball set from when I was a kid.

I can see starting to accept new submissions as they are getting close to the end of the backlog, but how close are they really? Still feels like several months away. It won’t seem right if some of these new economy submissions make it back before the people waiting over a year (and I do have an economy submission sitting in the ‘new’ backlog myself).

Seems like the economy sub events are tests for how psa will handle reopening all levels. 1500 spots at 5 cards per spot is 7500 cards. When psa is rolling through 35-45000 cards per day, it makes little sense if these events are anything other than test runs at a new way of accepting subs. Especially considering it wouldn’t make the average psa user any happier to have the opportunity to sub 5 cards at 50 dollars.

Well I was 1733 in the queue today and didn’t get an allocation. Seems hard to understand since they said it was 10k cards. I was knocked about around 380 which means this was closer to 6800 cards and last week was around 7500. I’m all for them taking in what they feel they can grade it just feels like a moving target. If it’s 10k cards and I’m under 2000 in the queue I expect to get an allocation but 25 minutes in and an hour in the waiting room it was full. Frustrating.

@jeffv96masters i think they heard your complaint as I got an email with the link about 8 minutes into the event. 😁

  • I was something like 3300, so I just laughed and wrote this one off. I believe it filled up when I got to around 1800 or so.

Also in queue today, starting in the 4000's. Filled up as I got just under 2000.
Notified by email, otherwise, I'd never know about it.
Evidence of change in grading standards? Pop Report.
My collected set has 26.4% of submissions graded 9 or 10--around 2,000 total submits. The last 87 card submissions have yielded exactly ZERO 9's or 10's, when historically 87 cards would submit 22+ such grades. Not a huge sample size, but ZERO of the last 87 submits kinda says enough for me to know standards have changed.

Used to working on HOF SS Baseballs--Now just '67 Sox Stickers and anything Boston related.
  • I haven't even bothered with these , it is more hassle than it's worth. tack on shipping both ways and 50 a card I will just stay patient.

reminds me of when card savers were up to 500 a case and they were selling out in an hour, now they are back to 140 and offering much lower for bulk.

Looks like Ultra Modern and it took over a year.

neither. This was a value ultra modern order. Took around 385 days from when they received it to when they posted my grades

I wanted to mention for those waiting on Value modern orders, I have another order that I sent in the same package to PSA.
So, it arrived and was logged on the same day. The Value modern is still in the grading phase, however my grades just popped yesterday for the Value Ultra modern. So they are further along on Value Ultra modern than Modern.

Just had two value ultra-modern subs move to assembly. Both entered 4/7/21. Another value ultra and a value modern were both entered the same days (shipped together) but are still in grading. Any idea on how long assembly > ship has taken on these anniversary orders?

I just had a value vintage order go to grading. It was entered on 4/29/21. It's fun going back over it and seeing what was in it. It's been so long I don't remember buying half of what's in it. A few guys have become hall of famers since I sent them in. :p

I look back at mine and just go "WTF was I thinking?" I do have a few low end Burrow's but I won't have them in time for the SB. I wish my guys had turned into HOF, all I will get back are Tyler Herro and Gardner Minshew cards :D

  • I had my "newer" 5 card Economy order reach grading today.

    Arrived 12/31/21
    Entered 01/05/22
    Grading 02/07/22

I actually won a 2nd lottery last week, but I'm not certain I have 5 more cards I wish to pay $50 each to have graded. 😂
