An out of collar broadstrike error. Not an off-center. 1968 Canada caribou silver quarter. I saw this on Ebay and had to bid on it. I won the auction for $42. I think I did very well seeing that you hardly ever see these for sale. I pounced on it. Sellers pics...

Now that I'm retired I've decided to consolidate my collection and focus on my two main likes when it comes to Canada's coinage - fifty cents and five cents silver.

At the recent Lakeland, FL coin show I sold off all of my duplicates, and used some of the money to purchase this nice five cents graded MS65 by PCGS. The images don't capture the nice toning, but it is a pretty piece. The Lakeland show was the last place on Earth that I would have expected to find this, which goes to show that you never know.

Following the five cent piece is an eBay purchase of a coin that I have been watching on and off for probably two years at least. I haven't seen many gem Elizabeth II fifty cents business strikes as of late, so I finally decided to act. I have not received the coin yet, so it will be interesting to what it looks like in hand.

Thanks Kyle. Originally I had planned to sell my entire collection outright but with lots of free time it made better sense to do a realignment, so that I can continue collecting without putting any new money into it. After collecting for 58 years I just couldn't walk away.

We started collecting at about the same age and year!

To celebrate your retirement, here's a nice Newfy* that has aged gracefully but now cannot recall when she was 'born'.

This is one of the nicest Newfoundland halves I've seen on eBay.

@Barberian - that is an obverse #2 Newfie 50c. The top leaf does not enter between E and I of DEI. It does not have a mintmark. It is also a small W in Newfoundland. So it is possibly an 1896, 1899 (narrow or wide date), or 1900.

I'm new to Newfies and could use some assistance if I'm wrong here.

Looks like an obverse #1 to me with the protruding upper lip. For type #1, extend a line in-line with the lower portion of Victoria's upper lip upward and it crosses her forehead or eye. The Type #2 has a straight upper lip from which a line drawn upward will miss intersecting Victoria's forehead entirely.

I was working hard on my Canadian coins this winter and spring but I haven't seen much lately that has excited me.

I am pretty happy with these George VI coins in older generation holders. The 25c is in one of the old green holders that has the same shell as the doily but with a green label.

Hard to tell from your photos but I'm thinking that the 1870 No LCW is VG10. The LCW looks like F12, maybe F15 on a lucky grading day.
