Washington Quarter Registry Thread

I have decided to keep my Washington Quarter Basic 32-64 Set and just got this Newp!

Big day, as I finally settled on a 32-S.
This is a date/mm that I would want in my collection even if I wasn't try to complete the series.

Even though I'm not a Registry "competitor", I did finally move out of the 30's into 29th place in the 32-64 basic circulation strikes and proof category.
I'll admit it, that was satisfying, lol.

The '32-S WQ was always what we termed one of the "big five" when I would do shows in the 1980s and early 1990s. At that time they were almost all raw coins and one had to make certain there was no hint of run on the hair along the forehead and above the ear, but they always brought a smile to everyone's face.

Orginally a PCGS 67 it was then moved to an NGC 67* holder, resubbed trying for a 67+, didn't make it and lost the star. This is a truly amazing coin that their photos don't do justice. Here is the trueview.

Just received my 34-D mechanical error re-slab.
Very good customer service getting it fixed.
It has much more luster than the TV would suggest and I'm pleased to finally have it in my set.

Very nice for the grade! Must have something that is unseen with the images. I guessed a grade higher!

Thanks.
The lighting does soften some of the hits but they are minor and minimal.
I don't mean to oversell the luster. It's nice but certainly not 67 luster.
I personally think it's an easy 64 but it's not a big deal.

@sparky64 It doesn't need to be wear-your-sunglasses luster to be a neat coin deserving higher grading. Originality will speak volumes toward desirability as well.

Finally picked up my "white whale" for my registry set, 1937S in MS67. This one even has a CAC sticker and has great color. Its the last official coin I needed to complete the mint set! I have put nearly 10 years into completing the set!

I have enjoyed watching you build this set and was the underbidder on this 1937 s and glad that you got the coin. It is a Ten Year project to Build a Great Set and I still have 2 more years to go to find another 37 s that has this look.....Congrats Again.

Congratulations on finishing your set. I too just finished my PCGS registry set with these three coins..

So I bought my first PCGS coin in 1988, a 1932-S, graded MS-64. I took about a 20 year hiatus but really restarted trying to complete the set about 8 years ago. It has been fun, but I need to focus on my variety set and proof set.

Nice trio, NorCalJack! I had found that the D-mint coins were more often a bear than either of the S-or P-mint coins when I worked on my MS set, which was from perhaps 1994-2004. Your 1954-D, in particular, is a beast!

Congrats on finishing up your set and bet it feels nice. What is the story with those last 3 coins? Crossovers or found raw? I like them all.....You did a great job and now you can concentrate on the varieties and your proof set. Have Fun....I have been having no luck with my last 6 coins left and just have to practice patience.

It is interesting as you build a set and the number of coins is reduced to a few it can be hard to locate. For me the 47-D, 54-D and 62-D were just difficult to find in a PCGS holder that had good eye appeal and not overpriced. You know that you have 6 coins left that you have to be patient to maintain the look and quality that you want for all of your coins. I bought the 47-D in an NGC MS67 holder. It looked good and I was hoping it would grade a 67 and it did. I also bought the 54-D in an NGC MS66 holder. I was hoping for a 66 or maybe an upgrade to 66+. I got lucky and it went 66+. I also bought the 62-D in an ICG holder MS67. That coin has great color and I would have been happy with a 66 or 66+. All of these coins I cracked out and sent in raw.

So here is another coin I just got back. A 1947-S/S FS-501. This coin originally was in an NGC MS67 holder with a green bean. So felt confident that it would go MS-67 or at the least a 66+. But it went MS-66. I think it is difficult to get all white coins to "+" grade. If the coin had nice toning I think it would have graded MS-66+.

So here is the coin and you can comment on the grade, maybe we can all learn from it. I know the coin is not perfect, but an MS-67 does not have to be.

Here is another coin I just got back. 1942-D DDR. I was lucky enough to find this raw. This DD is easy to see and I think is the best DDR variety in the series.

Erwin if you were chasing the 56 type B. I have a gorgeous blue one tht came from a group I bought in 2007 while on the East Coast. Out of the group I made 2 6's and 4 5's and this one is the nicest of them all. It has very attractive Blue toning.
But if you are not talking about the 56 type B nevermind.
