How about 19591969? A rival to 19592019 (nice find! 👍🏻) perhaps...

US Mint is aware of the "traveling note" issue. Perhaps they are trying to resolve that with a revised sleeve. Today's sales figures should give us an indication. Personally, I do not feel that they are even close to a sell out.

i don't think so either. figured they didn't have enough good sets to ship anymore. I have 16 and all of mine come with the notes all centered perfect last week

  • HemisphericalHemispherical Posts: 9,370 ✭✭✭✭✭

They are giving themselves (or the contractor?) 30 days to fix the issue.

This will put a small demand for those who have good sets.

First strike will be an issue for those who do not already have these sets. Very interesting.

I have 8 (of 24) ready for return but now thinking that these might be decent for submission instead if there is a significant delay for availability now....hmmm..have to check the deadlines...

Updated mintage so far as of 8/4: 28,639

So the Mint has solved the problem? Or are they just screening sets before shipping? Still waiting for my return shipping label, supposedly emailed to me last week...

+1 Spoke to a Mint "caretaker" & was informed it will take 2 to 3 working days for those shipping labels to be emailed. I might get mine tomorrow, but not holding my breath.

Called for a shipping label yesterday (not received yet) for my two. Ordered three more.

Based on mine the issue us that the two pieces of the cardboard flap that holds the dollar are not pressed together enough to seal the glue, and the bill can slip down into the glue. Maybe they will check all they have to make sure they are sealed correctly.

Only sold 3,823 in the last week. Or the number adjusted for returns. This was a nice offering but blew up on execution. The Mint has egg all over it's face which is not a pretty sight.

Resale on these is going to be a headache for anybody shipping them.

I bet the Mint supplier of these will get a STERN talking to and probably a lost contract.

as far as selling, it's very hard selling anything on e bay with this new sales tax. you just have to hope someone from the 20 non tax states is in a buying mood

  • HemisphericalHemispherical Posts: 9,370 ✭✭✭✭✭

There are states with a sales tax but exempt certain numismatic related items.

Why, they had this problem with coin and currency sets going back to 2012 and The Making American History Set. The $5 Bills only half in the holders.

This is the first set I remember anyone caring about the currency. The coins were what people were after and the notes were spending money.

  • TetromibiTetromibi Posts: 947 ✭✭✭✭✭

The packaging on these is a major problem. They were sitting in the shipping boxes (with all the sets sitting vertically). First time I looked through, I only pulled a few that wouldn't tap into place.

After sitting a couple of nights in the box, almost all had the dollars sliding out the bottom of the frame and into the glue.

Just called to put in for a fairly large return. Sounds like they will email a UPS return label.

  • BigABigA Posts: 2,715 ✭✭✭✭

Requested my return label Monday AM but nothing yet...they did say up to 3 days so I will wait until tomorrow to call again.

What happened to the online request? It was an option but then went to "unable to complete your request. Please call.......and....wait

I'll bet the number of returns is in the hundreds if not thousands. For a $16 set, this'll be a problem for the Mint, I'll bet. Has anyone gotten a return label yet?

What happened to the online request? It was an option but then went to "unable to complete your request. Please call.......and....wait

Yeah. Hasn't been working for me (and apparently others.) The last time I used it was for a prezzimedal (stain on the Washington), so that was last year sometime...

Back to the NA C&C set, I ordered three sets of two. I wasn't going to open all three, but since there were so many problems I had to open all three... I was only going to return one set, but I may return two, since the sacabuck in another set has a scratch.

They're from different orders, but I can probably get away returning both on the same label... I'm sure they won't notice. :D

Received my (2) sets on 7/31, both bad. Called mint received email with return label later that day, sent back UPS on 8/1 they received on 8/5. Now just wanting for the replacement sets when they get the packing right.

"They're from different orders, but I can probably get away returning both on the same label... I'm sure they won't notice. "

I ordered 10 sets each a separate order ( free shipping why not this way each has a box for me to ship out). I have to return 8 because the bill shifted too far to fix and 1 because of a cut in the coin rim. They wrote all the order numbers I'm returning and sending 1 return label. That's the long answer. Short answer you can put more than one order in one box. You might have to let them know.

It has been 8 days and no return label yet,,,,,, I guess that I should give them a call.

I am confused about the U.S. Mint return labels everyone is talking about. I ordered two of these sets and had to return one and the receipt inside the box instructed me to use the very small 2x2 self adhesive label that is part of the receipt. Is there another type of return label that I'm not aware of?

If I understand it right, the label that the mint sends you via email is prepaid, the one that comes in the box you will pay the postage and insurance.

Yep. If the product is defective, the Mint will pay for return shipping.

You need to contact them, but once you do and register the return, they'll e-mail you a UPS pre-paid label. (Well, they'll eventrually e-mail you a label.)

  • HemisphericalHemispherical Posts: 9,370 ✭✭✭✭✭

    @ajman

As others have mentioned. You’ll need to contact the Mint to get a return shipping label. Usually it is a UPS label.

The packing slip in the box is to be returned (cut at the dotted line) with the reason for return, i.e, fill it out and stick it IN the box that has the return label you had received (see first paragraph).

If you try to ship it without the return shipping label you’ll have to pay for it. No idea if the Mint will reimburse you paying for your own shipping; leaning toward they will not reimburse since they do it for free.

Let us know if you paid and what happened, so we all can get ed-you-ma-kate-ed.

I've returned items before using that label for one-off items. No problems.

For these, I'm not interested in paying shipping on a large quantity. They can send a return label.

  • ajmanajman Posts: 1,359 ✭✭✭

Thank you all for responding; now I understand. Yes I had to pay for my shipping and insurance as I wasn't aware that the pre-paid label was available. No worries though; call it the cost of education. Thank you all again.

My guess is that word may be getting around about the currency positioning problems and is dampening current sales.

It's day 4 w/o an email shipping label. US Mint is swamped with returns & once you have your label and it's received by the Mint, expect a 2 to 3 week delay in having a credit issued..I was also informed that the return shipping labels are generated by UPS & not the US Mint.

Generated by UPS but someone at PFSWeb has to input to send the electrons to UPS... ?

Just got off the phone with the Mint CS. It's been a full week since I called to request a return label. I was told that they are currently swamped with both orders and returns -- she would not comment much on the C&C sets other than they WILL NOT be exchanging C&C returns, only refunds. They had my return label "in process" but may take a few more days to email out. Call again if not received in ANOTHER WEEK. Are you kidding me??

If you want replacements, you will have to re-order on the back-order, now Sept 6. Makes me think the returned sets will be s-canned if not being exchanged. A lower mintage won't hurt my feelings...

Thx for posting - that's good info.

When I called to return I said I would just re-order inline and he seemed good with that process.

I always wonder how they trash defective mint merchandise. For these sets, will they break them open, send the coins to the waffling machine, and the dollars to the BEP for some kind of credit? Or will the whole mess just go into a landfill somewhere (anyone got the address? ;)).

Or you could keep what you get. Carefully slice along the edge near the currency holder, you can get by the adhesive and open the holder, then take the bill very carefully and rip it out of the adhesive, you may experience rippling along the edge and whoa, just rip the corner right off!! This bill was recently televised and for sale for 99.95 & 5.50 s&h....good grief.

  • GRANDAMGRANDAM Posts: 8,760 ✭✭✭✭✭

I am still waiting on a return label for my first 7 sets. In the meantime I received 5 more sets today that I ordered when I called to return the 7 sets. Guess what all 5 sets have the same problem with the dollar bill. :s I was told when I ordered the last 5 sets all future sets were to be inspected before shipment. That didn’t happen so these 5 sets are going back as well, the lady told me that the sets are now on backorder until Sept 6th until they can all be sorted,

How much rattling and rolling are these sets suffering during transport? Too much.

If only the initial set packaging was done correctly. :/

Or, as @coinpalice mentioned, I surely do not mind if the actual amount sold is a really low number for the sake of the pop of the “special enhanced” Sac. B)

FYI - the 2014 sets are still selling at $37-40 ea at 50k mintage. I discovered I had a few left and they flew/sold out the door yesterday at that price. Those were quite a hoot as the "enhanced" Sac was unannounced prior to the set's release, and there was a feeding frenzy as a result! We may have a different "perfect storm" for these Sacs again --

I described how to fix these a week ago...

    @BackroadJunkie said:
One was significantly off center, but the FRN wasn't stuck in the glue, so it was repairable. (You can a get a thin blade between the two layers of cardboard at the bottom of the FRN, and then take a probe and straighten out the FRN. You can do this so long as the FRN isn't in the glue.)

You only have to get the bottom open by an inch, then put a probe (like a Popsicle stick, toothpick or something similar) through the opening to straighten out the FRN. If the FRN is in the glue, it's game over. But so long as it's just off center, it's very fixable...

Agree. Did a quick look and FS cutoff is 23 Aug.

OT. The 2018 RP AI is listed with a cutoff of 12 Sep. Release is 13 Aug.

10 day overlap. Might be able to load up a submission of these Sacs and the AI for FS. Save on postage and the handling fee. Just thinking out “loud.”

    For those who returned.

How long did reimbursement take from delivered (to the Fulfillment center) to payment ($ hit CC or PP)?

    ——————

Another way to fix some notes. Can of compressed air with the “straw” attachment. Slide it into a crease and puff it back. Caution with the puff as it maybe “wet” so use little puffs and not a continuous puff.

    Which randomly reminded me of,
