Chris, I believe your cob is a low-mintage & more valuable version sold directly by Moonlight Mint.

Whereas, my cob is a high-mintage antiqued version -- marketed by a promoter. It's also a different die pair:

1881 $5 Gold

1) All were struck with 22mm Clark Gruber obverse die, paired with a
22mm “X”-cancelled US Mint 1996 Olympic $5 gold reverse die.

 Over-struck items include Liberty “V” nickels, Jefferson nickels,
  Washington & Statehood quarters, Kennedy half dollars,
  US dollars (Eisenhower, Sacagawea, Presidents, Silver Eagles,
  Peace, Morgan), an 1881 Liberty Head $5 gold piece,
  and various medals, tokens, foreign coins, and blanks).

2) All are satin on cancelled die side. Liberty Head side is satin or proof-like.
3) Mintage figure is for all types combined (estimated).

Unfortunately not. I was only able to pick up one at the time, but I love that piece because I love skiing in Colorado. It's a great piece.

Since that thread, I was able to pick up a silver Sacagawea concept dollar to add to my early Dan collection.

I never worry about those - mainly get the overstrikes. Oregon Trail IMO the best of those, but the matte proof Peace Dollar up there...

20k invested, sounds like you have an awesome DC collection !

Up until a few weeks ago I felt I was lacking 2 or 3 DC items. Then surprisingly I picked up all 3 from three different sellers at fleabay.

That said, I still need the Colorado 1/4 oz silver 25c issues.
I have the Super Cool 3D topographical Colorado issue, but would love to add:
Maroon Bells Skier, Mesa Verde, and Pikes Peak, with COAs preferred.
Those early COAs included the total mintages of 10 or 15 printed on them.

If you have these items upcoming ? I'd love to chat.

I've only collect DC items I really like. So, other than some new issue, or seeing a very low price on something I already own, I am pretty much done with trying to win high bid on closed DC issues.

A lot of DC items I've acquired at a local coin shows, fleabay, or direct from Daniel, appreciated in value, yet I do not want to sell any of it.

Focusing on what you like is the way to go and is what I do. Trying to maintain a full set can be very challenging. I recently missed out on the 2016 bi-metallic slug but I’m enjoying my Winged Liberty pieces.

It wasn’t about profit, I liked the design and wanted to support Dan’s work. I just don’t know what he has produced outside of the website anymore. It seems there are more unpublished coins out there than published on his ecommerce website.

I am not saying Dan should change anything with how he makes/markets/sells his coins. I’d like to have maintained a somewhat complete collection but that’s seems impossible because I can’t even keep track of what he has made anymore.

I started the collection when he got his press and have some duplicates. Hundreds of coins, bars, and a few castings.

Even in the early days, I felt it was very difficult to get all of Dan's work.

For example, I've never seen a gold Tesla or Denver Mint Centennial.

More recently, I'm still on the lookout for this, which also comes in a 1 oz version.

I decided to offer these directly on my own site rather than linking to the Commissioning Committee store. Proceeds still go to fund the Commissioning Commmittee activities. It is true that there are some things that were never offered via the internet storefront. I have been trying to keep that to a minimum. But it can be tricky when there is only a couple of a particular item available. It was easier to bring some of these to a large show (like the ANA in Denver last summer). But it will be a number of years before that show comes back here. Note, however, that everything is documented in the on-line catalog where mintages and other details are recorded. I will probably go back to listing "one-offs" and such on eBay to give everyone an equal chance.

I've recently seen these two online both from smcvay137. I didn't see any notes on the inserts so I'm guessing these were done outside the Moonlight Mint, but it'd be good to know for sure.

Yes, not all of the post-strike finishes are individually documented (but their as-struck finishes are included in the mintage figures). The note at the top of both of these catalog pages indicates that:
