Not sure , but the Dick Stuart card may be slightly miss cut ???? maybe a
optical illusion with the slight tilt front and back ??? Otherwise I would agree a solid 8 !!!!
The Bob Miller card is a beauty !

Renna is a great card....looks like an 8 to me. Toning on the back usually does not affect the card grade.

This is another on that is well centered and the corners are very sharp. These are from my dad's collection that he left me. He really did a great job of getting nice cards and protecting them well.

I grew up in St Louis. One of my favorite Stengel quotes occurred there on July 12, 1966. The All Star game was played there that year in what was then a brand new Bush Stadium ( it has since been replaced).

It was a round stadium with no open end and on each day of the All Star break the temperatures were over 100 in what turned out to be a serious and somewhat deadly heat wave. In an interview he was asked his thoughts about the new stadium and his only reply was
" It holds the heat well"

Not the easiest cards in the set by a long shot. Coming up on 60% PSA complete but still hadn't been able to land these two.

I think I mentioned this earlier in the thread, and posted scans...that there is a front variance to the Sullivan card as well as the 3 back differences. The front can be found with a small rectangular brown box in lower left front below the team logo. I have it on my no circle around the copyright version and on my no period after the A in USA version. Also have version of the normal card with the circle around the copyright with a green line below the stats under the AVG column. Not sure how many front /back combos are possible

I am not sure what is going on with my Haywood Sullivan. It is the one that is missing the circle on the copyright. But on the front there is some odd yellow colors. It is not stains but I guess PSA would consider it a print defect. I really am not sure. What do you guys think this is? And should I get it graded? Other then the odd yellow color it is in very good shape with good centering.

I would say this is the no circle around the copyright, which is the 2nd toughest of the 3 backs. Note it also has the rectangular box in the lower left front corner. Have not seen one with the yellow in the name before. I would leave it to Don or others about how the yellow might affect grading. I assume it does not appear after added. Since the box shows up on a lot of fronts I would not expect that to impact grading, but Don and Bob would know better. They would also know what that card sells for in different grades

I think you should have the Sullivan graded.....on the sub form, make sure you call it out with the proper description for the variation so they get it right. I have seen a lot of Sullivans but I don't recall ever seeing one with the yellow in the last letter of the name....very interesting. It is not a recognized variation. The yellow is not going to affect the final grade of your card, IMO.

I have a question about resubmitting cards and getting bumps in grade. Don I have seen on here that you have gotten a bunch of your PSA 10 cards by submitting PSA 9s and getting a bump up in grade. How often does this work out? I feel like there is so little difference in a 8, 9, and 10 that if I sub a card that got an 8 it could bump to a 9 or maybe if I am really lucky a 10. There is just such a huge jump in value for the card that I am considering this.

Is there something to look for that would be a good indicator of a card likely to bump from an 8 up?

I got a 1960 Roger Maris card that got an 8 and I really feel like it is flawless. I have a scan but I cant seem to get it to scan really clearly for you guys to look at. I will post it anyway. Thanks again for all of your advice. I am really enjoying learning about these cards and learning about the process.

Jayhock.....thank you for your post and your interest. The Maris card is very nice. The best that I can tell from the scan, there are two things that could hold it back from a 9....the centering may hold it back and there seems to be a small touch to the lower left corner....can't really tell for sure but the corner does seem a little soft for a 9.

I have had some success in submitting some PSA 9's to bump to PSA 10's, but the success rate tends to be about 10 to 15%. Keep in mind thought that I am sending in cards that have a really good chance at bumping....getting the bumps is tough. A PSA 10 has to have four gem mint corners, no noticeable print defects at all and the card really needs to 'pop'....gorgeous color, gloss and registration. After a time of studying the difference between 9's and 10's, I can tell a difference between the cards. I have had some trial and error with PSA but I have learned a lot as to whether a card has a chance at bumping....9's to 10's and also 8's or 8.5's to 9's.

A two time All Star Daddy Wags once had a clothing line and his slogan was “Get your glad rags from Daddy Wags”. He was also nicknamed Cheecky for his high check bones. He was part American Indian. He also apperared in a few movies. Sadly he died alone in an abandoned shed next to a dumpster in LA

Subject to verification by Mr. Peanut , I think the only facts I may have conjured up involved the origin of Cookie . The Wagner story indeed had a very sad ending. He seems to have been an interesting and complicated person. I have found it interesting to investigate the backgrounds of the folks posted from the 59 set because that set is special to me and I have been looking at those faces for many years

Sam's nick name was Toothpick. I am trying to think up a good story as to how he got that handle. He was part of the first ever all black AL battery . He had a no hitter, but would likely not have achieved it today. Ahead 4-0 going into the 9th he walked the first 3 batters. Today he surely would have been lifted, but in May of 1958 he then went on to strike out the next 3, including Clemente.
Stan Musial once said Jones had the best curve ball he ever saw.
