Recent trip to Lowe's Hardware. Found in the parking lot a 1948-D Jeff. nickel, tails side up. And a memorial cent by the sliding entrance doors. 2 Clad dimes,$20.00 bill, new shield cent, and 1941-P nickel on the casino floor. Probably be more profitable just to walk the floors looking for dropped $ then feeding the machines.

Successful transactions:Tookybandit. "Everyone is equal, some are more equal than others".

Nice finds... never thought to check Casino floors... many trips to Vegas and lots of casino's in WA state... I just head for the Blackjack tables... play until I earn my target, then leave with the profits. Cheers, RickO

My favorite (read: closest) CoinStar has been broken for going on 2 weeks. I'll be glad when I find more in the bin than cobwebs.

Our kids went on vacation and we got the dog :# Anyway I drove the dog to the walking trail for something different for her. After I put her in the truck to leave the trail I walked around the back of the truck and low and behold there was a pile of change laying there. 11 dimes, 8 nickels and 29 pennies. I've found change in this spot before but nothing like this.

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

Wow... now that is an interesting find... almost as if someone dumped the coin holder from the car.... strange distribution... Cheers, RickO

I did a 3 mile county highway walk this morning. 2 quarters, 1 dime, 1 nickel and 1 penny along the shoulder plus 47 cans

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

I walked to the market and back yesterday... not quite two miles.... found no coins, no cans, nothing in the coinstar.....Guess people just hold on to their money around here... ;) Cheers, RickO

  • WhiteTornadoWhiteTornado Posts: 2,102 ✭✭✭

Found a quarter while out walking my dog a couple of days ago. My closest Coinstar is back in action, but nothing there yet, nor any other Coinstar lately.

  • pocketpiececommemspocketpiececommems Posts: 6,046 ✭✭✭✭✭

Walked for 53 minutes. 2 pennies and 64 cans

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

Wow... that is a poor coin day for you PPC..... good day for cans though. Cheers, RickO

My favorite Coinstar finally coughed up a few foreign coins and a mangled clad dime.

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

@Dockwalliper ....Would be fantastic if it was the major DDO.....Cheers, RickO

Friend of mine was out cycling over the weekend and found a large pile of change. When she counted it later it was almost $20 worth! :o

Super find. It still is amazing the money that you find and sometimes out in the middle of nowhere. I Still bike on occasion and generally can find small change but nothing like this. I've often wondered if bikers that put in alot of miles find alot of change and tools

  • WhiteTornadoWhiteTornado Posts: 2,102 ✭✭✭

Not sure exactly where she found that pile of change, but she lives in a semi-rural part of town, so maybe it just fell out of someone's car. Reminds me of a story I read once in Runners World magazine. Guy interviewed said he would run most every day and would not stop until he found some amount of money, even a penny. He said some days it took many, many miles before he could stop.

My finds yesterday. Picked up my prescription today at Walmart. Received in change a 1939-P Jeff. Nik. Condition VG. Conveinience store find. In change for my coffee purchase a 1944-P Lincoln cent, in fine condition. Nothing of great value, but it is pleasing to receive such old coins in change. Also got a 1965 quarter but in worn shape. It makes me think. Seeing a 52 year old coin worth zero. But back in 1965 a 52 year old coin might result in 1913 coinage. Quite a difference in value over the same 52 year span.

@BLUEJAYWAY ....Very true... the changes to our coinage over the last 52 years have not been positive... base metals, low relief, commercialized designs..... Sad to see the coinage of the greatest nation become so trashy. Cheers, RickO

Out biking early this morning, found someone's debit card on the side of the road. Called that bank just now, but it was already reported and canceled. Guess I did my good deed for the day

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

Great... glad to see this... I can imagine how the owner felt when they found it missing....Cheers, RickO

A dime and penny last night under a drive up ATM machine at my local bank. A quarter and 4 pennies this morning before work in the coffee shop parking lot.

  • pocketpiececommemspocketpiececommems Posts: 6,046 ✭✭✭✭✭

3 pennies found on the street. Been kinda slow for me lately.

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

@Downtown1974.... nice pickups.... better than I have been doing.
@pocketpiececommems ...Wow...that is slow for you..... however, even your slow days beat me. :'( Cheers, RickO

Found a dime in the parking lot at work the other day. Not much else for this guy.

1 quarter, 4 pennies and 50 cans on a hour walk this morning. First quarter find in a while.

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

Fifty cans in a one hour walk?? That is amazing. I rarely see a discarded can... once in a while I will see a flat one on the highway. Never see them on the streets here... Cheers, RickO

I gave back this time. I dropped a couple of coins when I received my change at Costco yesterday. Its so crowded in there, so I abandoned them to let traffic continue to flow smoothly. Between what I found and what I dropped...hopefully I broke even.

Quarter, 2 pennies & only 7 cans walking yesterday. Penny & 62 cans the day before. I just look at it as people throwing out silver for me

And you're helping the environment. :)

Yes...helping the environment... we don't want all that zinc to corrode and contaminate the parking lots... :D Cheers, RickO

Perhaps @ricko , someone like @pocketpiececommems gets out earlier than you and that is the reason that you never see any cans. Just thinking

Got a 1911 liberty head nickel in change at Dunkin Donuts this PM.

Interestingly, about 3 years ago I found an IKE dollar at this DD in the parking lot and about 1 year ago found a $20 dollar bill in the same lot.

I need to visit this location more often:

@1630Boston ... YES... I would go there every day.... :D Hang out on your days off....I have never found a Liberty head nickel in change.... well, not since I was a paper boy. Back then, they still circulated, though not plentiful. Cheers, RickO

No coins in the mall lot, the market lot or the coinstar. Even the 'take a cent, leave a cent' trays were all moderns. Cheers, RickO

3 quarters, 3 nickels and a dime at Six Flags New England on Sunday.
I would love to take a metal detector to search the land around the base of the roller coasters.

Probably not a great idea, I've tried it in similar locations and there is a TON of trash

I think you meant no "young, clueless about money," people in my path.
Just my thought, since I actually see younger people tossing coins, from change, into the trash or on the ground on a regular basis .
