That 1943? I never sent it in. Would be a waste of time and money to certify a science experiment

why would you send in a crappy roosie dime like that to be graded?

I just don't understand the lowball crap. That's what it is, crap. That dime is worthless to me.

More or less on this example, to prove a point that it would, in fact, grade.

However, for all my other Poor 01's, I make a LOT of money off of them.. registry set people buy them.

The less people in the market buying up my inventory, the more I can make. It doesn't hurt my feelings that some of you think it's stupid or question my motives. I'll make all the money, I mean...

    Congrats!
I did the same on an 03 nickel & got it in a 001 pcgs slab.

  • mannie graymannie gray Posts: 7,259 ✭✭✭✭✭

    I don't think it's stupid at all.
Nor do I question your motives.
I understand the lowball market and have "made" quite a few myself.
For example, the lowest graded (by FAR) Memorial Cent (G04) is a coin I made quite a few years ago. And they overgraded that one, not that it matters, but it was a FR02+/AG03.
I just happen to not agree with the PCGS graders on this coin(the dime).

Aww, come on guys, give him his props. That coin graded. He said it would and it did. Period. Sometime we are wrong. It happens to the best of us.

I have questions about this coin for the OP, have you weighed it before slabbing? What does the reeding look like?
I missed the original thread on this coin. To me, after looking at both the original images and this topic, I think this could be weakly struck and a somewhat circulated piece. XF or AU circulation combined with a weak strike that shows mostly on the peripheral.

Nah man, just wanted to show that it DID grade, not that it has any value at all. Im going to auction it off on eBay just to be funny and to put the final scoop of ice cream on the cone, lol.

    Not a natural wear pattern.
I don't agree with PCGS on this one.

Might be time for PCGS to consider a Questionable Wear classification ;)

It does look like an interesting wear pattern to me. The center area certainly warrants better than an AG-03 by itself.

LOL! Cool coin and you were absolutely correct in your assumption. You 'da man. After rereading the past thread, it's even more amusing. I like the poster that first advised you to "send it in". All the hammering that poster took. One never knows what our Host will do or not do, right? :)

It's even more satisfying to the op to embarrass those who said the coin is pmd. Now they can eat crow.

This is exactly how the non-collecting world see's it. The unknowledgeable world in coin collecting see's the 1913 V Nickel as having the value of only 5 cents! We knowing the true aspects of this coin. So we as collectors, could understand the value of the $5,000,000! Just because we know about this type of coin. ;)

way to go. I learned recently that we have some folks on the site that like to bash others or claim coins to be cleaned or otherwise false, why I don't know. But for you I am glad thing worked out, for those who doubt, pick up the Red book or something else and read. Lots of good folks like @boyernumismatics know better as this has proven. Way to go

Love that thread! I predicted it would grade as 03 (it did) and a couple of members FLAGGED my comment let alone a bunch of others simply disagreeing. Where's MY apology?

"I'm not knocking how you make a living or who chooses to collect what but I can make Po01 coins all day but I choose not to walk around with a pocketfull of change or run them through a tumbler till it meet the standands."

Dude know the facts before you make false allegations. For the record I found the coin in question & the op acquired it from me.

nothing... they graded it for what it is... a worn out coin

Totally agree. Thank you for your willingness to concede and put your name with an unpopular opinion. The coin is genuinely worn and deserves to have been graded.
