    I'd been haggling with a guy on EBay over a nice VF25 (my grade) 1844-O on EBay and had settled on a rather high price when this 1844-O in VF30-35 popped up BIN for $50 cheaper ($100). I kept this one and returned the other.





    The 1877 "7 stars" I purchased on a whim for the full value of a normal 1877 in F12 ($45). Dumb.





    The 1853 w/arrows shows harsh cleaning on the obverse with proper lighting. I purchased it in a B&M with poor lighting for $60.





    The 1846-O MD is just a nice coin I couldn't resist.





    The other coin shown with the reverse up is a VG8 1872.

    It is a F-105 based on the RPD (1 and 8 of the date) and the weak center lettering on the reverse.

    "Died on the Train": mourning token inscribed "L. Frank Gray/July 1st 1878" on 1858 Seated Liberty half dollar

    Mr. Gray died aboard the drawing room car of a train that day, of consumption (tuberculosis). He was only 27 years old.

    LordM, that is a really nice coin! I guess it is still considered a "love token" since it is in memoriam of a loved one. Very nice acquisition!

    Very cool that lordmarcovan has a picture of the newspaper clipping of the man's obit and a photo of the man's headstone.
    My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.

    UMCane - Agree on the elegance of std coins. Most of my seated posts are of coins that belong to others, Doug in Iowa, Paesan, and Elmo. They are the ones with first-class eyes.

    Although this is not mine (I already have this type {No Motto} filled), this appears to be a good looking MPD WB-107 Variety (unattributed). I notified the seller over the weekend to take a closer look at it to verify the MPD, but he may be too busy or forgot about it.
