    Thread is stuck.

Just a few words of thanks to YN, Michael Valente, who accepted my invitation
for Thanksgiving dinner ... He is from Maine and is in college in Orlando. He
drove down on Wednesday afternoon and promptly got his camera equipment
out and set up for what turned out to be a marathon imaging event. He imaged
104 Barber Dimes and Quarters that I did not have edited pictures of, plus another
half dozen coins belonging to my friend, SROTAG. The finished results will
be done over Christmas break. So expect to be inundated right after the Holidays
    around FUN.

Speaking of FUN, I will be there all day Thursday, January 8th and I have to leave
by Noon, Friday. The BCCS meeting is at 3:00 PM on Friday. Sorry, I can't make it.

A friend had asked me if I remembered to who I sold an 1897-O Quarter in PCGS 55 CAC - back in FUN - January 2012
Reason being it is at Heritage auction this FUN, 2015.

    Images:

    image

My friend consigned the coin to me - and is anxious to retrieve it.

While looking for the receipt of this coin, I stumbled across a receipt from
Todd Madison. He purchased three Quarters from me in July, 2012.

His home was burglarized in 12-2012 These coins are still among the missing:

    1909-D Quarter NGC 58 - 666713-001

    1910-D Quarter PCGS 55 - 12313626

    1915-P Quarter ANACS 58 - 2835176

Mike...sorry you friend's losses have not been found. I have an interesting somewhat related experience.

I am very meticulous about keeping records of the graded coins I sell and keep them on a spreadsheet. My missing coins can be counted on 1 hand. I purchased the coin at a Heritage auction so I could prove I owned the coin at one time. What! I had been watching for that coin to turn up and it finally did! It was in an auction and I contacted the auctioneer and explained I don't know if I sold the coin or if it was stolen from me. I asked if they could contact the consignor and help with the history of the coin. Took a couple of contacts but I finally got an answer as to where it was purchased. It was in my own backyard at my State show this year! I was further told no more info would be asked of the consignor unless I had a police report! I am now well over 90% sure the coin was stolen from me and shocked at the reaction of the auctioneer. I bought the coin back for 75% of what I paid for it 3 years ago. If I had sold the coin I am certain I would have made $50 or more dollars on it. This is what raises my suspicion! Why would a person I sold the coin to sell it for such a loss without offering it back to me? My plan is to give it to the head of security (who is a good friend) at the next show and ask him to show it around and see if he can find the dealer who sold it(If indeed a dealer did sell it). This is about closure for me, not the money as I informed the auctioneer. But if their is that good of thief in our area I and many others would like to know! I made it clear to the auctioneer I was not after the return of the coin.

Do not even think about asking me who the auctioneer was!

Mike, You sold me a 97-O privately right after FUN. Not sure if it was that one, but I've seen that coin before.

Mike - Look forward to all of your pics. And yes, Scott is keeping his 92-O.

    UHR - Nice 95-S.

feeter - wonderful colorful '92. Thanks for posting it here.

Mike - I imagine if those coins haven't been recovered by now, they won't be. They probably are not in those slabs anymore.

Darrell - Interesting story. I have a feeling numismatic theft is more widespread than reported.

Vern.... Your 01-S Dime in 53 is an ex: Elbesaar coin.

I need to search back in my records, but my 53 and your's
seem to be the same coin. As I mentioned, I await the images
that were taken over Thanksgiving. My current coin is an AU 55.

Mike - Interesting, I believe Glenn H had my 01-S dime at FUN 2010, but I didn't acquire it until April 2010, from another dealer.
I wasn't at FUN 2010, but a friend told me about it and the dime pictured below. When I callled Glenn, the 01-S was already sold.
    Luckily, this one wasn't, PC55:

Four posts in a row to unstick the thread... ridiculous....

    Here's another upgrade....

    imageimage

Ok... seems enough posts release the one I was looking for [ Vern's.]

    Vern...BTW ... Very Nice 96-O .... I wish I had a nice AU in my main set.

The MS Dimes I have just posted were recent purchases from my friend, Srotag
I'm assisting him in getting things organized and sell off his undergraded coins.A mutual
friend bought his 1896-O Dime in its new PCGS holder - MS 64.

The 01-S in 53 you bought from Glenn was on consignment to him.
I have had more than my fair share of 01-S Dimes. I just sold a MS 61
to another fellow Board Member on the BST.

If I could convince JMW to sell me back my old AU 58, I'd be a happy camper.

Mike - I'd say it depends on the phase of the moon as to whether either dime will cross. No, that is more predictable.
I'll go back to just the luck of the draw.

    Vern,

I think the entire system is stuck, not just our Thread.

It took me four attempted posts to see your last post, yesterday.
It was worth it, I love the 96-O Dime you posted.

I did not mean to ignore Scott's 1901-O Quarter - in 63. Very tough coin to locate, regardless of strike.

I am still looking for an acceptable AU example as I type this - I may never find another to the equal of
my old one, then again, I am not looking for another MS example :

So do I - I paid Legend $22.50 more than you paid.

Once you add in the juice that is. I netted a loss of $403.50
once all the appropriate fees, etc were withheld.

    So... don't P&M .... its a nice coin .... image
