I just received an email saying that Darrell had posted.
Guess the Thread is stuck. It's not just this Thread, but
    all Threads on this site.

There seem to be other bugs here as well. There are times
I can not update my Registry sets. A bit disturbing, to say the
    least.

    ...Ok, Darrell. I understand.

Why not show us the last dog you threw
out of the "kennel " ?

Maybe Don will have a "Show Off" like there
    was for the Shireman-Duckor-Friend sets.
Comparing these sets was a great event.

<< <i>The two 97-S Quarters seem to have different Mint Mark shapes.
One has a distinct serif on the S .. Where as the other is missing
the serif; it also looks as if it's punched over another MM.

    Interesting. Nice coins, both.

I have a friend imaging my Dimes and Quarters over Thanksgiving.
I had no idea how many were missing images. Will post them as I
receive them... It'll be similar to my post of my V Nickels. >>

    Mike,

there are 3 mint mark locations on the 97-S quarter. center mint mark, right and far right. right and far right have small difference in the shape of the S. I think we all know, but the center being the rarest of the 3.

    Darrell-

Congrats on finally upgrading that '08 O to a 58! That must be a tough half to come by.

1914 S is surely strange on the MM.

I never saw a weak MM like that one before

A good friend that I am assisting with submitting his coins to PCGS for possible upgrades
and to CAC for possible Green Beans... was agreeable to buy this coin when it failed to
sell at auction the other day.

I was browsing thru "available" coins from the closed auction and knew he would flip
for this one, as I have as well.

I now will get his PCGS 64 sent to CAC - and we'll see how things develop.

    image
    image

My friend sent this to me - which I approved -

    image

I also went thru a score of other marvelous coins which I was hoping my friend would win.
He walked away with these four from the Gardner Sale :

    image
    image

His lower graded examples were shipped to me and I have now submitted them to PCGS for a possible upgrade - then, its off to CAC.
Their disposition is being determined as I type this.

I was thrilled that my friend got Dale Friend's 1902-O Half. Its one of my all time favorites from Dale's collection.

Sleep in this morning, Vern ? image

Up at 5:00 again - walking the hounds ... leaving for a friend's Yard Sale in a few minutes.

That 1908-O is a Half Dollar... not a Qtr. - and its a beauty, yes, for sure.
I am still partial to Dale's old 02-O Half.

I am having issues with my IPad - and the Laptop -

The IPad isn't allowing me to log on to this web site...period.

The Lap Top will not allow me to open up the Service Thread so
I can check my submissions - I can not open up my PM History -
I can not add images - or update anything on the Registry.

My Lap Top is telling me the problem is with the site.

Its really beginning to irritate me - immensely !

Both pieces are about to go in to service. I've had it.

    Jeff,

You have been on a "tear" recently.
    All nice pick ups.

    I think the 10-S could get into a 58
    on a good day.

Not much has caught my eye recently,
aside from the Ali Collection at FUN. My
V Nickel set is complete - I need to upgrade
a couple of 55's with 58's. Everyone should
look at this set. It's amazing.

Noticed Glenn has a few consignments that
are worth a good look. I also spotted a rare
Seated Half for those interested in that series.

Hard to believe that my MS64 1909-S FS-501 is still showing as top pop at PCGS... though I know there are others graded higher that haven't been attributed. I originally bought the coin in an NGC MS65 holder... oh well image

Looking at my recent photo posts I can see a lot of scratches in the plastic- very distracting. I took the photos quickly without looking at the holders carefully. Also I'm getting used to "new eyes"; I recently had cataract surgery. I see distances great now, but my up close vision took a hit; I just need to get used to wearing readers.

What's the best/ easiest way to get rid of these scratches (other than re-holdering)? I bought a liquid paste product made for this purpose; with a LOT of rubbing/ polishing it works marginally well. I've heard some use an auto headlight restoring product; does anyone have experience with this? Any other tricks?

My last new pickup, a 1896 Half in a AU 53 holder from the retired set of Notehunter:

    image

    image

About a month ago I posted photos of the two '96 AU 50's that I was trying to choose from. Now I choose neither!

No images yet on JJ Teaparty. Price of $7895 is steep. Considering I handled a MS 63 last year for $7000.
And, we thought that was steep. The pop of 3 in 58 is keeping the price high.

Holy moly! My PCGS MS64 was less than half that price... but I guess it's been several years since I picked it up image Every time I see a new 1909-O quarter in just about any grade the asking price is a shock to me... but they all seem to sell fast, regardless of the price!

Darrell - Congrats on the AU inverted S. Pics?

Jeff - Nice '96. I've used Meguiar's PlastX on scratched slabs with some success. A dealer I know uses a buffing pad attached to a variable speed drill. That works the best.

FTB - Nice work on the ebay buys.

There are only 3 09-O qtrs in 58, and from JJT's description, it's likely which one it is.
Also, anyone have any idea where the only 01-S in 58 is? Has anyone ever seen it?

Guys, I consigned my 09-O 58 to Liz. It's the one I purchased from Mike at FUN a few years ago in a 55 Gold CAC holder. I love the coin, so that's why I priced it like I did. I hope it finds a nice new home.

    Lenny,

    Nice return on investment.
I should have held onto it.

    Fade To Black,

You scored a big fat "You Suck"
    for that MS Half.

    Nice score. I'm amazed people
do not spend any time looking
up the value of what they are selling.
Their stupidity is your gain, so,
    Congratulations.

    Hey Craig,

That's the image I chased for 6 years. If the coin
actually looked like that I would never have sold it.
    Can anyone say, photoshopped ?

    Vern,

You've been picking up some honeys from Scott as
of late. His duplicates or is he selling off the set in
    pursuit of another series ?

Guys, The coin might never sell. I mean, I want to make a buck, Liz wants to make a buck, and it's priced 63-64 ish. I do believe its much nicer than the other two 58s. The beauty of loving my coins is that I'm OK with it either way, but maybe someone out there would like an opportunity to own it.

Many marginal AU 09-o quarters have gone for 3500 to 5000.
