It looks like it's worthy of an XF 40 to me, but because of the way the question was asked I'll go with a 35 as well. The color looks a bit off to me, however. Just saying.
Mowgli, I see you're stacked with key dates, and rather nice ones too!!!
Vern, Lots of voter fraud, no doubt about it. They asked me for ID this morning and a signature. Can't believe there is anywhere in this country where that's not required.
Paesan, Vern took pictures of key dates but the sets are complete save for the 1901-S quarter. I was less discriminating with the R1 and R2 coins than I was with the rarer coins.
As an aside there is very little voter fraud - in one state that requires IDs they found 2 out of 20 million - two. In that state it is easier to get a gun than to vote.
The 1896-O half I bought raw as an AU55 - too much wear on the wing tips to be a 58.
I appreciate the time Vern took to take these pictures and post them. He is a great person to talk to about coins.
In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king.
Paesan - No ID required to vote here in Illinois. All I had to do was sign, and my signature now bears no resemblance to the one on file when I regeistered some 40+ years ago.
Mowgli - The pleasure was all mine. I look forward to our next opportunity to get together.
Darrell - Cary's 01-O half looks like a 40 all day long to me.

Vern l It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.
Mowgli, That's a fascinating collection of dimes! You seem like an astute collector. I'm very happy that you and Vern hooked up and I'm enjoying all the posts. I will differ with you on the voter fraud issue, but I'm sure that some states do a MUCH better job to combat it than others.
Vern, So you just walk in, find your name on a list and sign next to it? Hint for NTT is the melody was used to make Rapper's Delight. What a classic!
I'm gearing up for the FUN show in January. Hope to meet some of you guys there. I'll bring a box for trade/sale, so there will be some Barbers there!
That reminds me of the good old days, which was how I had my first set assembled in 1994. Three sets later, I am now cherry picking out some of my old coins from the raw set I had certified.
Vern... would love to see the 1897-O Dime from that album. JMW and I consider that date to be the hidden sleeper in the set. I just bought Ron Hedden's AU 55 for my set. My XF 45 failed to sell at Great Collections [ I swear there are just enough eyes watching those auctions ].
Thanks for sharing !! Thought I'd upend your images...
Here is my old 1897-O - PCGS 62 - I never found an AU at that point - this coin sold in 2011 -
My current 1897-O - PCGS 55 : { I have yet to have this coin imaged professionally :}
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Mike, thanks for turning those pictures upright. Some of the dark coins are not that dark but it is hard to get the light right with the set-up Vern had. I do not know if Vern has a picture of the 1897-O but I bought it raw as a 58+. I couldn't tell if it was uncirculated.
In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king.
Here is a beauty that I find rather fetching. It is only a lowly 63, but it has a price point I can live with. It is also the year that Utah entered the union...for you nerdy historian buffs.
Tyler, your eye for MS coins is just as spectacular as your eye for quality mid grades. Very nice pickups. Keep them away from the dip for a buck dealers!
Paesan - To vote all I needed to do was tell the first election judge at the table my name, the second election judge found my voter regiistration record, I signed it and a third election judge gave me a ballot. It's a good system, that keeps the dead vote strong in Chicago. Of course it would be unfair to require me to produce an ID, because that would discriminate against people who don't have an ID. I wonder how anyone can go through life legally without an ID? If I'm poor and don't work or drive, how do I prove who I am to get public aid, food stamps, etc. Oh, wait, this is Illinois, where there isn't any fraud or corruption...........OK, got that out of my system..........for today, anyway.
Tyler - Good looking halves.
oih8 - wonderful skin on your '92.

Vern l It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.
Recent acquisition. I've had a real good month with high grade Barbers, acquiring three coins below price guide that had very PQ toning. The reverse of this coin is fully Cameo, and the obverse is not, despite the photo.
The two 97-S Quarters seem to have different Mint Mark shapes. One has a distinct serif on the S .. Where as the other is missing the serif; it also looks as if it's punched over another MM.
Interesting. Nice coins, both.
I have a friend imaging my Dimes and Quarters over Thanksgiving. I had no idea how many were missing images. Will post them as I receive them... It'll be similar to my post of my V Nickels.

I noticed that Barber quarters are experiencing an uptick in prices on the PCGS price guide. Especially in 63/64. This is my favorite series and maybe I am not alone if demand is increasing!
Mike - I think the difference in the look of the mint marks is due to my lack of photography skills. If Scott gets a chance to examine both, perhaps he can clarify.
Tooky - I think you're right, nice 63-64 qtrs are hard to find.

<< <i>Did anyone notice that 'S' mint mark on Mowgli's qtr above? I've not seen a 14-S like that before. {edit} - I also have not seen anything like it. Possibly a filled die ?

Mike! When the man lets everyone see what he has I will open my set again! I felt obligated to let people see what I had when I had the top set...but it does tend to make it more difficult to acquire the ones needed!
I would love to put my set up to his side by side and see who's set is nicer! I finally replaced the last dog in my set! And no it was not the coin or coins I upgraded!

He does a great job imaging - and helps move this thread along.
Mowgli, you have some really nice coins and we all appreciate your
letting Vern image them.
I hope to have the missing images of Dimes and Quarters from my sets
photographed over the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Now that my V Nickels have been completely imaged - its about time
the balance of the Dimes and Quarters are done.
My Halves only have a couple of professional images - those will just
have to wait until my friend can come back again.
