That was my plan when I bought 10 of the Army (PCGS69) for $30 each after they were declared the King. I hope you have better luck than what I did. That is why I am sitting this one out (so you should do good!! LOL!!)
I have a few sealed boxes of 5 Coins that I'll be wanting to sell. Haven't done ebay in over 10 years, what would be the best way to move these? Any ideas? Is BST any good?
Has the dust settled? Everyone got their quota? Any more shipments coming in?
Still a few good deals yet on the clads out there. Gold unc's seem to be stabilizing?

Interesting that the clad half unc's came up a bit -- last week was 37,967. This week 38,097. I would have expected them to drop.
The gold proof is king too, tho prices don't reflect...yet.

You nailed it..... AGAIN...First time with the Army-D's which I loaded up on Thanks to your sleeper post.
I dug up an old link for the Army-D's (I was tracking the pricing) and if these Generals perform the same given their Key status then $85-$100 shouldn't be too far off.
That's a terrible price. Definitely not and better share the seller here so we can all avoid that scheister...

I am amazed there are still good prices on the MacArthur $5 PR70DCAM FS/ER on eBay considering it is the new proof king. It seems like it is being over shadowed by the #2 MS coin.
<< <i>I am amazed there are still good prices on the MacArthur $5 PR70DCAM FS/ER on eBay considering it is the new proof king. It seems like it is being over shadowed by the #2 MS coin. >>
I'm not because proofs just don't seem to get any traction, but as to exactly why, that is a mystery. My best guess is that even though it is king, 15,000+ coins is too many to be considered rare and desirable by anyone who can actually afford gold.
<< <i>Oddly tho, the proofs never seem to carry a big premium for low mintages. >>
This does seem to be the case. I've never understood it. >>
Collectors gravitate towards proofs, as shown by the fact that they regularly outsell uncirculated versions by a wide margin. Proofs highlight the design elements by contrasting them with the fields, are more aesthetically pleasing overall, and are more impressive when shown to friends and acquaintances.
Investors/speculators gravitate towards the uncirculated versions due mainly to their lower mintages.
The lower premiums for the proofs can be explained by their typically higher mintages (compared to uncs.) and lack of speculative interest. The demand profiles for proofs and uncs. are very different from each other. >>

OGP carries a premium. Sometimes coins in OGP sell for higher than slabbed -- especially non-fs 69's or lower.

so coinvault had a set of 70s of the two gold commems, the UNC at MS70 and the proof at PF70 for $1400. I think they had two sets on their site. I "bought" one on 1/3/14. they JUST called me now and said they don't have the set and are cancelling the order. so either they lied about having a set and presold one, or they didn't want to sell at that price. damn!

Ouch, that hurts. I have had similar experiences with other dealers especially when the deal seems pretty good. Very frustrating.
Gold and silver are valuable but wisdom is priceless.
Have the sales of ms70/pf70 gold (ditto the ogp non-graded) MacArthurs gone stale? Worth buying now or has the train left the station (for flipping). I'm also not seeing a huge upswing in
sales (or prices) on Ebay for the ms clads. What is the future...long term or short term hold?
The 1995-W Silver Eagle and the 1997 unc. Jackie Robinson did not start seriously rising in price until a few years after they were issued. I suspect the same will hold true for the MacArthur $5 and the clad half. In addition, the weak economy and the super-low mintages of some of the other Mint offerings are probably helping keep prices in check.
i wanted a gold unc to just hold, well flip in a few years, but if i got in at the good price, i don't have a problem just sitting on it with the current mintage numbers. but i'm not gonna chase them real hard.
i found 10 of the clad unc for $27 each (in mint packaging) and got them in. i'll just hold those.
What is interesting in this discussion is the relative lack of anyone saying they got one for their collection of either modern gold commemoratives or modern commemorative half dollars.
Lots of speculative interest but few collectors.
It appears the number of old fashion collectors for the modern gold commemoratives is now well below 5,000 and below 20,000 for the halves.
<< <i>It appears the number of old fashion collectors for the modern gold commemoratives is now well below 5,000 and below 20,000 for the halves. >>
It's likely that many collectors wanted one but couldn't afford it at this time, due to the weak economy. Also, most collectors (as opposed to investors) go for the proofs, which typically outsell uncirculated by around 3 to 1 (as happened in this case).
Another factor is that many collectors wait to purchase in the aftermarket, when commem prices typically sink below Mint issue price. That happened to not be the case this time.
