I’m still a “GO SOX” guy, I just gave up following them intimately. Re reading this thread a bit and when I think about Panda, Han Ram, Crawford ect.. I remember why I got emotionally unattached to this team

MARCH 23: Red Sox righty Steven Wright has been suspended for 15 games under the MLB-MLBPA Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy, as Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston first reported. It is believed that Wright will decline to appeal the suspension, Drellich adds.
The suspension relates to a mid-December incident in Tennessee in which Wright was arrested and charged with domestic assault and prevention of a 911 call. So far as is known publicly, Wright has not been accused of any physical harm to his wife or any other household members; rather, in a statement at the time, the family called it a “verbal argument” in a “situation” that “was purely emotional.”
Not long after, the case against Wright was “retired,” meaning the criminal case is on track to be dismissed so long as Wright does not commit any infractions in the next year. He has told reporters that he and his wife are participating in joint counseling.
Of course, those facts do not necessarily mean that Wright did not commit an act that is subject to discipline under the policy. Clearly, commissioner Rob Manfred found that he did, as he is entitled to do without respect to whether charges are ever filed or pursued in court.

Another whacko who it appears likes to man-handle women, or, in this case, his woman/wife. Why else would they hammer him with a 15-day sit? I doubt he'd get arrested for yelling, or something along those lines. The charge was domestic assault. No doubt the Red Sox attorneys got involved and did their hocus pocus with some judge to save this sorry mook from spending some time in the slammer. May you feel the boo-birds in Fenway.

Was able to catch most of last night's game. Was surprised when I clicked on Ch 628 and there it was, also on ESPN. I of course chose the NESN feed...a rare moment for me. Game could have gone either way, but for some strange reason, the new manager found a way to have his synapse fire the correct impulse to his brain and he brought in Kimbrell...lights out.

Unimpressed with the supposed "uber-hitter", otherwise known as "I'm a bajillionaire", aka J.D.Martinez. So far, two thumbs down. ZERO for SIX ain't gonna cut it.

Odd, I thought, how Cora likes to hang over the rail with arms dangling down, and not appear managerial, more rookie-like in his posture.

I would like to see some more offense than I am seeing right now. The pitching can not keep up what they are doing for an extended period of time.

Geez Steve, you expect mega millionaires to hit better? Shame on you. B)

No, that is why I am against signing them to start with.
How do you like Italy my friend?

Don't leave for Italy till the 13th...gone till the 26th. 1 night in Rome, 3 nights in Positano, Amalfi Coast, 1 overnight ferry from Naples to Palermo Sicily, then 2 nights there, 1 night in Agrigento and 3 nights in Taormina...back to Rome from Catania Sicily and non-stop back to Atlanta. Will let you know when I get back. The flight is 9hrs++ ATL-Rome, but after that horrible 14.5 hrs, LAX-Sydney, this should be more bearable.

Just spent 4 nights at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. It, for some reason continues to amaze me how the lemmings continue to play such poor blackjack. Not many doubled down, and looked at 16 like it was the plague, and simply waved off the dealer, when they could have surrendered. Never pressed their bets...I just watched the show.

I had to play on a $10 table to enjoy the surrender option...all $25-$50 tables were pitch. So, I sat there at first base plugging away with green, as the lemmings played two red over and over and over, never pressing, and worst of all, playing the bonus option. Catching a BJ was cause for excitement, and 2 Aces seemed to also excite the crowd...nor my favorite hand.

Not to mention that most were always tipping the dealer $1 per hand...oddly enough, she never said "thank you". I think I confused them when I drew my little line behind my bet and the dealer took half my bet. I could see they were wondering what I'd just done, but I just kept quiet. I played till I won $500, which was my goal. Bought in for $300 and cashed out 3 black and a purple. Actually spent most of my time talking with the pit, reminiscing about places in Vegas, Fremont St and some lesser known dives like the infamous Western off Fremont. One floor super broke in as a dealer at the 4 Queens. I make it a point to be friendly to the pit...not overly so, but enough to ensure they pop good numbers into the box for me.

Didn't look at the box score today, but glad for the win and the Yankee loss. Yankees were up something like 3-1 late, and lost 7-4 I believe.

Boy, didn't Kapler really embarrass himself!! What a bone headed move...call for a relief pitcher when in fact nobody had been warming up...he won't last long as the Phillies Manager.

    Take care,
    Al

I thought you were there now, didn't realize that you had not left yet.
With all the years I worked as a pit boss I saw too many stupid players so am not even interested in going to a casino now , as you know , I am surrounded with them here in Albuquerque.
The Yankees do not have the pitching YET,, but they probably will pick some up by the trade deadline .
Kepler is in over his head and will not last long.
    Have a great trip,
    Steve

Betts can not be replaced by Martinez !!! It was the reason they went to extra innings to start with as Betts would have made that catch that Martinez could not . Why did Betts need a rest after only 5 games?

    They are beasting it!

I love to see them winning all these early games but please remember these teams they are now beating are not top of the hill teams. This week will give you a better feel for what is going on with 3 games verses the dreaded Yankees.

Martinez in the outfield is a big mistake. They say he will warm up at bat as the season goes on but in the meantime he can't hit his way out of a paper bag.
    Moreland can't hit a lick.
So much for the sox power so far.

    perkdogperkdog Posts: 29,491 ✭✭✭✭✭

I totally understand these early games are not a test to how good they are but every W counts and beating the teams they should beat counts especially later on

It sure does and the Yankees losing another one they should have won does not hurt either. Who knows maybe J D Martinez will come through big time for them. I hope X is ok.

Only caught a couple of innings of the game...had to go to a "street party" at our Pavillion, which was nice, but the date was not the best, given the Masters is only about 75 miles from me and we have some avid golfers here, that had to attend the event. I think next year, the committee will select a date nowhere near Masters time.

Anyway, was super surprised to see the Red Sox pulled out 6 runs in the 8th, with 2 outs. Mr. uber-millionaire does NOT belong in left field. Why Cora would put him there is a mystery to me. The wall has too many quirkey spots that take a long time to anticipate and master. Leave him at DH.

A win is a win, they all add up...the team will continue to mature, and hopefully in a good way

Looking forward to the Yankees-Red Sox series, at least I get to see one of those. Nice to see the Yankees lose a game they should have won...as mentioned by Steve.

Well Al I hope you got to see all of that game tonight. It sure was a good one, Even Martinez got in on the action.

Yup, caught the game on ESPN...another tonight!

Too bad Martinez wasn't about 10 feet to the right, he'd have gotten the grand slam...at least he's producing. Yankees looked shell-shocked...LOVED IT !! Betts value to the team went up substantially...hopefully they don't let him get away. The outfield trio of the Stinger Bs is about as good as it's gonna get.

I guess they're trying to find a home for Swihart at first...not so sure about that.

    Italy tomorrow....9 hour flight.

I don't know what they are going to do with Swihart but hope they can find a way to keep him. Right now they have no place for him but it is a long season and they may need him before it is over.

Join the crowd of me and Al then as we are the only ones now interested in what is going on with the sox so far. I'm sure more will show up before the season is over with though. Unfortunately though I will be rooting for them from 2000 miles away. as there is no way I can make it to Boston.

One thing about that dustup. You knew where Judge was in that crowd. He was the easiest to keep track of.

Got to love Porcello ! If he keeps it up he will have another Cy Young under his belt. He seems to have found himself this year. Time to go out and buy yourself a whole house of new furniture from Jordans this year. I wonder if they ship to Albuquerque?

This years Sox team is very impressive so far. Hanley Ramirez looks inspired. JD Martinez has as nice a swing as Manny Ramirez. You're killing it with Pedroia, Boegarts, Pomeranz, and now Betts hurt. I don't know if it can get any better than this, but this team looks impressive.

This is a big road trip starting tomorrow. There is a lot at stake and will not miss a game even though they start at 8 PM my time. I usually go to bed between 8 and 9 PM so anticipate an afternoon nap.

I usually don't watch baseball games but tuned in last night to get a look at Ohtani and it was good to see that Boston gave him a real American League welcome. LA usually gives him the following day off but i hope they at least put him in at DH on thursday. As for the Sox,they're looking great at the plate & on the mound this year.

of course the excuse is that Ohtani had a blister on his finger but last night is something he'll need to get used to. when he faces the better Teams as the season progresses(and hopefully warms up) what we saw yesterday won't be a mirage. MLB hitters will get a "book" on him and hit the 100mph dart.

pitching today isn't about how hard you can throw, though that certainly helps. it's more about out-thinking the hitters, knowing the holes in their swings, location and movement. put simply, if a guy throws in the high 80's but his pitches are moving and he locates where a hitter either can't hit it or isn't expecting it, he'll be a success.

on the other hand, if a guy throws in the high 90's straight as an arrow in the zone, well, he's gonna get roughed up.

As well as the Red Sox are playing it feels they are currently playing third fiddle behind the Bruins and Celtics. Long season, but good to see them beating the teams they should.

So far the West Coast agrees with the Sox. Lots of firepower so far.

Sure looks like they are for real this year. If they keep this up my estimate of 96 wins is going to have to make an upward climb from 96 wins. Al should be back from Italy soon to catch up with what they have been doing. He is just going to have to pick up the mlb package if he has not spent all his money on galavanting around the world this year. He will need the rest anyway. I sure do after 3 late nights and 3 early mornings with my cat still wanting to go out in spite of my wanting to stay in bed.

Yea, but they have lost twice as many games to the Red Sox as they have won from them also.
Alway a good sign when you can beat up on the bad teams and break even or win from with the good teams.
Cora is making all the right moves at the right times, unlike the previous manager, so far.

Its crazy that they've already hit five grand slams in 19 games after hitting zero last season.

Their pitchers have been fantastic also!

Kudos to A's pitcher Sean Manaea for no-hitting the Sox last night. He only faced one batter over the minimum.

    pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭

He pitched a great game but the umpires gave him the no hitter along with the help of the official scorer on that outfield drop.
Red Sox need to bounce back from that one and kick ass in todays game.

Cora is not letting them get established. Too many days off is going to get them messed up. The season just started and sitting on the bench does not allow them to do that.
