Congrats on an incredible year from a Yankees fan.
Dump Kimbrel- I agree. Price? He’s a keeper. The way this league is going, he’s very valuable - he throws innings, he’s mostly effective and throughout his career he’s proven he’ll take the ball every fifth day (most of the time). He’s not worth the money but none of them are. You pay mostly for past (not current) performance in sports.
An amazing season from start to finish.

Thank You, sincerely it’s nice to hear it from a good Yankee fan. I do like that the intense rivalry with SOME Yankee fans like yourself can be pretty down to earth

Good post...thanks for the sportsmanship, you are indeed a rare Yankee fan. Hope your team doesn't get saddled with Manny "dirty ballplayer" Machado. I think your GM has some interest. How I loved seeing him make the last out and dropping to his knee, and actually forming the letter K for strikeout.
See you next season, don't be a stranger in the 2019 Red Sox thread, most of us will welcome you here. Yup, we got some crazies too.

Price won't walk and the reason is 31m per season. I never use the term "per year"...the season is from April - September...6 months of throwing a baseball every 5 games. Great gig if you can get it. NOBODY is gonna pay him that kinda money if he walks. $5m+ per month is pretty sick.
I would give big coin to Eovaldi, Pearce is worth a bump and Kelly is gonna stay too. Kimbrellia...too many heartattack moments...no tears here if he goes.
When a player signs a contract, especially one like Price's,he represents the team year round not just every 5 games during the season. Not to mention training camp starts in february not april and the majority of players are getting their bodies ready long before they get to training camp.
We are stuck with him weather it is for the good or bad. We have been stuck with others as that is the chance you take when you acquire these has beens for big money. You are paying for what they have done in the past.
would love to see that $31 million spent elsewhere. Eovaldi might not get huge money due to his medical history, but he will get paid. Be nice if Rodriguez finally steps up as a full-season starter.
Well guys...I'm not the OP here, but hung in through most of the thread. Obviously our team had a sensational season and won the WS in short order. Always coming back, scoring runs with 2 outs, batting champs, MVP stuff, we experienced it all this year.
I'll be getting the baseball package next year and will be looking forward to a great 2019. Maybe Pitboss or Perkdog will open the thread next year.
My best wishes to all for a great Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. May we all meet again in about 5 months and hopefully enjoy another exciting year with our team and whatever changes are made.
On a personal note, I have a couple of cruises coming up in 2019, March and June, and a nice Norway cruise In July to celebrate my B-day. Having traveled to Australia, Tasmania and both islands of New Zealand, and a nice 16 days in Italy and Sicily within the last year...trust me...go if you can, go while you're young and enjoy this wonderful world. The flights are no piece of cake, especially LA - Sydney, but the end justifies the means.

it was 13 degrees this morning when I brought my daughter to school. Didn't feel cold at all! She wore Red Sox and Patriots apparel to school for her Halloween costume
Winter is coming on fast. You can see the snow on the mountains now and that is where I like it.
Its close enough to see but far enough away so I don't have to shovel it.
Spring training will be here in no time and Lord willing I will be here for another season of Red Sox baseball.
I hope Dombrowski has another successful off season and the players enjoy it as well.
They had a great season for sure.
Now its time for Dombrowski to get to work on next years team.
Some tweaking needs to be done here and there.
Kimbrel needs to be replaced.
Eovaldi needs to be resigned.
Betts and Benentendi need long term contracts if they will accept them.
Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year everyone.
Kimbrel's agent is telling teams that he's the greatest closer of all time. Sorry but the GOAT closer would never have been skipped over twice in the final innings of a WS deciding game. The Yankees would never have skipped over Mariano Rivera (my pick for GOAT closer) in that same situation.

I know many of you were seriously concerned about my collecting my second $100 bet. The first was a bit of a chase, but the second become a journey.
Finally got my 5 Andrew Jacksons last Tuesday night. Guy I bet with is an attorney, who travels a lot to Chicago, we just kept missing each other. Sadly, for me, he wanted to double up on the WS .
Rest easy oh ye of Red Sox Nation, I'm paid in full.

nice to win the WS, the MVP thing is a feather in the cap
Is he eligible for arbitration too? He should be getting paid a nice size raise if he is.
I believe you are correct. He's not the only one, I think JBJ too, among others. Going to get expensive for Boston. At some point, they will have to unload an "untouchable" just to keep things affordable. Unless John Henry is hiding a few extra billion somewhere.
John Henry has enough money to pay whatever he decides he wants to pay. They have tried to get Betts to sign a long term deal in the past but he does not want to. He makes enough right now to survive for the rest of his life quite comfortably so he is going to wait fr the big payday when the time comes. Might as well get all he can when he can I guess. Everyone else does .
I was thinking the same about Kelly...he throws 100+, hasn't given us too many hear attacks like Kimberly. I think he could easily fill the closer role.
The sox better start signing some players after the yankees traded for Paxton or they will be sucking wind this year so far behind the eight ball it won't be funny.

I don't think they will feel pressed to get into a Cold War type of race with NYY. Their formula worked this year so they likely will not stray far from it
Unfortunately for the sox past gm's have got them so far over budget it will be hard to put a good team together for next year or for several years to come. The players they have now will want more money and if not given what they want will become harder to sign when it comes free agent time for them.

Kimberly rejected the qualifying offer! He's as good as gone
Greedy is the only way to describe these players.
Cora got screwed out of manager of the year but at least the sox gave him a raise as a reward anyway. Hope they are working on keeping Eovaldi.
Congratulations to Mookie Betts on his MVP vote. Well deserved !

I could use a deal like that. Good for him he earned it.
Great first signing for the FA season. Maybe Joe Kelly next?
Depending on how much he'll be looking for,I wouldn't be surprised if they talk to him about being the closer next year.

I say, adios Kimberly.
if Kelly were to close, he'd need some coaching. Fewer walks needed! He had a rough middle season
He has the hardware for the job but I am not sure he has the software for it.

That doesn't sound like the kind of deal that will win them another title.
that's a done deal.
I don't think they will feel pressed to get into a Cold War type of race with NYY. Their formula worked this year so they likely will not stray far from it
that is a really good way to put it. If he can be coached/managed right, maybe they can work on that headspace

Sixty six full World Series shares voted by Red Sox players with each one $416,838. Not a bad payday for playing a game.
Can you believe that Bryce Harper turned down a $300 million dollar offer from the Nats.
That is insane, I’m telling you it won’t be long before we see an actual Billiion dollar deal.
Well, I suppose that probably will happen, but I am too old to see it and probably will not be able to afford TV anyway when it does happen.
If this article is to be believed,Trout might be thinking of becoming the first half a billion dollar deal in free agency if the Angels can't get their chit together and start making the postseason more.
