Ok, guys, got my 2 sets today, coins weren't loose at all, looking good to me. Here is some pictures I took. Looks like on S proof some scratch, haven't opened a capsule yet.

In my sets, it appears as if the finish on the Proof and the Enhanced Uncirculated is the same except for the mintmark.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

The Obverse shows the difference best. The Enhanced Uncirculated has two levels of frost, the Proof just one.

Looks like Pinehurst are selling their NGC 1st Day and Label 70 grades for a cool $9985.00. That's almost $800.00 for 4 coins to be graded. I will be sending my 2 to PCGS.

It's as big as a book. Shipping good. No issues with loose medals. Looked at 2 sets and quality OK.EDIT.. Looking at the pictures,do see a white spot on the Unc. Will look at sets more closely before deciding to return or not. :) Did not want to remove from capsules for better pictures

All four medals in this set are unique. The stand-alone proof has a different mint mark, making all 5 medals unique.

Thanks @BackroadJunkie !! So only 50k made right!

I'm unsure "only" is the adjective that should be used, but yup, 50K for this set. The stand-alone medal is unlimited and they'll make that one until the end of the year. They may stay on the site until the next American Liberty is produced in 2019...

  • BigABigA Posts: 2,715 ✭✭✭✭

I bet they cut off the single medal at around 50k also

  • Like this set more and more, thinking to get more before they are gone

I got mine finally packed today and on its way to PCGS for grading. Hope I get lucky and get all 70's! :*:*:*:*:*

Less than 25k to go....what an awesome set... :)

Halfway. But if anyone wants one, they are selling at 180 in eBay auctions. Half price before the other half sell?.

  • OPAOPA Posts: 17,120 ✭✭✭✭✭

This set, regardless of the beauty in the eye of some beholders, was another DOA US Mint product.

Hmmmmm... Error possibility of an ASE on one side and a AmLib medal on the other... Is it a coin? Is it a medal? Some third shift worker needs to make this happen...

@OPA hey do you have a link of the ones that you say are below us mint price on ebay?

  • BigABigA Posts: 2,715 ✭✭✭✭

I saw one for $199.95 and a $229.95 but those are the lowest I could find

A few did sell below $190 though...

It's only the auctions (currently) that are below issue price. Some have closed at $180 or below. So, make your bids and take your chances.

I'm still predicting they will be $100 next year which is when I'll probably buy one.

  • jmlanzafjmlanzaf Posts: 34,162 ✭✭✭✭✭

Depends on how you look at it. $172.50 for a set of Mint Medals is actually ALOT of money. Not as much as $200, but more than history would suggest they should be worth.

  • In both of my sets, the reverse proof was loose.

I decided to return both my sets today. Package is on the way back to US Mint. But I was able to pick up 3 more sets of Limited Edition Silver Proof Set 2017 (17RC) earlier this morning. Mint released today around 500 sets which were sold out quickly. This one will hold value much better. Someone were right here this set will be cheap next year for sure.

  • dmwestdmwest Posts: 959 ✭✭✭✭

I succumbed to the logic today. Its purely a financial decision. If I can get them much cheaper as the prices start to fall I'd rather do that. I still like the medals, and I'm still in the minority.

Returned 2 sets and keeping 2. Unsealed one order to check medals before deadline for returns passed and am glad I did. Reverse proof had a dark spot on the face and in another set the Unc had a white spot. Too much of hurry to return,to post a picture. Price/value of those I'm keeping doesn't matter a lot. I like the different finishes... :)

Considering the number of loose medals and reports of spots on some, CC cancellations and returns will make this week's sales number dismal...

  • privatecoinprivatecoin Posts: 3,379 ✭✭✭✭✭

I chose to purchase 1 just for the interest in the design. Received mine secure with no loose medals. Have to say it is very similar to the 2014 Kennedy sets, and the Enhanced uncirculated looks very proof like. I agree they probably will go down in value though.

Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value. Zero. Voltaire. Ebay coinbowlllc

In addition, all of my recent threads (which would obviously have a number of posts) are summarized in post 2 of said thread. It includes major events and sales data, with links into the thread.

I taped the HSN 2 hour program and Mr. Mike Miezziake has the 4 Medal coins in ANACS 70 grade @ only $699.95. Now that might sound expensive but I wonder how mine will grade at PCGS? I have 2 sets in so I have 8 coins. Is it better to just buy one? If it was in PCGS I would jump on it. Will I have to buy 2 more to get 1 set of 70's? Time will tell the good thing is their NOT SOLD OUT so I can keep buying till I get 1 SET! We will see. How much will it cost me? $1000.00? $2000.00? $3000.00 worth cause I am going to keep buying till I get at least 1 in PCGS. B)B)B)B)B)
