you will not maintain a $10.00 margin on a $29.95 item that has a 225,000 release as more and more flippers enter into the fray. That isn't sold out yet. Key word is "if", I guess. The demand is not there.
from the most current 7/30/2017 us mint cumulative sales statistics:
2016 unc set still on sale - 286,603
the 2017 unc set released on May 17th - 174,992
are there 225,000 collectors who are going to buy a special set that is neither a true uncirc. set nor a proof set?
although the low mintage figures on a few of the coins is a compelling reason. of course there are the matte proof lincolns ...
I have a hard time drawing comparisons to the proof sets, but here they are:
16RC - 2016 LIMITED EDITION SILVER PROOF SET - 42,756
16RG - 2016 PROOF SET - 595,184 (last reported sales figures were 6/18/2017)
17RG - 2017 PROOF SET released on March 29th - 323,401
Then I thought about the capital outlay, storage of of bulky items, shipping and packaging hassles or expensive priority shipping, and profit potential for a lot of work.
I decide to pass.
I will stick to my specialty and save the capital to to purchase coins in my narrow field for my inventory.

As a JFK half fan/collector...how does 225,000 stack up as a low mintage in the series?
What was the mintage of the 1970-D?
If I'm not mistaken it was just over 2 million, and was only available in mint sets.
SO...WOULD THIS BE THE LOWEST NON-PROOF JFK ISSUE???

The 1998 matt finish came in at 62000. Also the 2014 enhanced Kennedy's had a mintage of 300K. I don't collect Kennedy's, so don't know if this set will have a key date, though I am sure the S mintmark will help the set.
You can read about the enhanced Kennedy's along with what are keys in the series here. BTW the 2014 Kennedy Enhanced sets are lingering around $99-$130 on ebay.

My bet is that there is going to be a lot of 70's come out in this. The mint is getting better in exponential leaps and bounds when it comes to keeping these coins pristine after striking them. One recent example were the gold centennial mercury dimes. I believe somewhere in the neighborhood of 80% submitted to PCGS got the top grade. It made it to the point that there was almost no premium for the 70's.
if it is a 70, it is a 70.
for these, I'd be concerned about "water" spotting, streaking (unknown cause), strike throughs of the annoying variety, and finish breaks.
I stopped by the U.S. Mint section in the back of the bourse and they were sold out...even the display set was sold. Needless to say that dealers had boxes of them at thier tables.

I think the key coins in this set will be found in the lower denominations.
Not counting proofs, the Sacagawea dollar is only the third lowest date/mm mintage, the Kennedy half is eighth lowest (ninth if you count the gold one), and the quarters all have 2017-S circulation strikes as counterparts.
On the other hand . .
At 225,000 the dime is by far the lowest non-proof mintage in the Roosevelt series. Next lowest is the 1996-W at 1,400,000, which was also available only as part of a collector set and which now sells for $10 to $13.
The 2017-S nickel has less than 1/10 the mintage of the 1950-D, and probably less than 1/4 the number of survivors. The 1950-D sells for about $5 circulated and about $10 uncirculated.
And lastly, the 2017-S cent has less than half the mintage of the 1909-S VDB, although possibly a higher survival rate. This coin is the key to the Lincoln shield reverse set, and has a good shot at retaining that title.
These three keys alone make the set an attractive value at the Mint issue price.

I'm seeing bulk pricing down to $36.72 a set and dropping. Throw in selling costs and it is getting close to break even on bulk.
I think the next question is if it is sold out soon,
will there be so many flippers in the market we see prices hit at or under release prices?
Someone should call the mint and order 20,000 to verify that's all that is left. Could someone do that for us?
Don't quote me on that.

coin facts?
do not forget the 2014 issues.
That would belong to the 2014 50th clad sets, mintage just around 200K. (197,608 was the final reported number.)
Whoops. Yep, the 1998-S was 62K.
Think back to the Kennedy Collectors Set in 1998. Mintage was under 70,000 of the matte finish half. That'd be the key.

I looked up what the 2014 silver set sold: 221,134.
So depending on how the dust settles out on this issue, you could add those four coins to the list.
1970-D had over 2 million struck. Now, the 1970-P supposedly had zero, so that was less than the EU set, too...
Edit to add: I know the 70-D is recognized as the "key" at 2.1M, but the Mint regularly struck less than 2M between 2008 and 2012...
Wow. The quarters look great. They should have done all of them like this. The 50SQ, too.
I suspect they'll look better in hand....
