Instead, it looks like the mint went back and struck 30K more sets. (That's my assumption. No official word yet.)
Imagine what the mint would have to do to strike more 10 coin sets. Are there good enough die's to strike the new sets? How many new ones are required to make it worth while? New sets only to replace damaged ones? Stay under 225,000 authorized sets. Labor and machine time to strike these new sets. Don't forget ordering more packaging and that cost.
Odds are they are not making any more of these sets. The final numbers will account for returns not resold and will be something under 225k.
It's less complicated than you might think.
They do the same process all year for proof and silver proof sets. The robotics that do the proof/silver proof sets can also do the EU sets. They're no different. Same size blanks, same lenses, same size boxes, same size CoA's.
Considering there's more than 10K EU sets available, I think SF went back to the presses.
If they did, it would be the first time they have done so for a commemorative set. The presses for this set stopped month's ago, and they are not about to be reopened.

looks like the congratulations set was the only winner the mint produced this year so congratulations to mcm, apmex, coinadvisor and jesse_james_rare__coins and the coin vault. the rest of us just sit and wait for a miracle

There are still over 9,999 available.
Wow come Thursday this will be a forgotten series. Or at least until the United States Mint Limited Edition 2017 Silver Proof Set sells out! That's going to be the new hot series of coins! And the vicious cycle starts all over again!
This Market reminds me of a Slots Gambling venue that's on a serious death spiral. As people get tired of losing they try to hold on to any small winnings. As people stop throwing money back into the machines, payouts are less frequent. As payouts stop , players start staying away. Soon the only patrons are the die hard addicts that can't stay away. Soon enough, it's a graveyard.
How long was that 1999 Proof Susan B Anthony available? It seemed like forever BUT I think this EU Set has a good chance of beating it. After the LESP Set goes on sale , especially. Everyone will forget this EU Set.

The 1999 proof Susan B. Anthony dollar is currently selling for double its original issue price. The 1995-W proof Silver Eagle failed to sell out, but today sells for more than 12 times its secondary market price at time of issue (about $250). A coin's initial popularity (or lack thereof) is often not a reliable indicator of future demand.

There's no rational argument that can be made here. People either "believe" or "don't believe". Only time will tell. I'm willing to wait to see. I don't need to feel smarter than the room by insisting that my belief MUST be true.
I agree with you on the future trend. Too many Lincoln and Kennedy collectors, in my ever humble opinion. I don't expect these sets to be $100s of dollars. But I do expect them to show some improvement over time (2 years or so, my best guess). I could be wrong. Time will tell.
In the meantime, despite BestDay's best efforts, I continue to make money on these sets. Maybe not as much or as fast as I would have liked. But coin margins generally stink. Try buying and selling circ Morgans. LOL.

about 1,000 sets sold.
I'm thinking there is a line for the true auctions on ebay and those true auctions are stealing us mint sales.
I'll go 1500.
I do find it interesting/funny/odd that both regular proof sets and MINT sets have higher weekly sales totals than this set lately.
You just said what posts have previously stated ... Yes Proof, Mint sets more popular than 225th sets .. demand for the 225th set will continue tail off .... $28 retail after Christmas ?

Quantum fluctuations are causing sets to randomly travel backwards in time, which allows them to be returned before they were even shipped. Once the wormhole closes everything should return to normal.
the mint must be allowing longer than a week for returned sets. they should discontinue sales at end of year but they won't. set will be a longer term hold, they might be still available this time next year

I don't know if it is mind games but is a $200 item with a 50k limited mintage more attractive than a similar $60 product with an unlimited mintage but has sold less than 48k in four months?

It's not what I would call "similar". Well, unless you mean they are mint medals. But in that case, the limited edition silver set is "similar" to the regular silver set, if you just ignore the silver eagle. Heck, the proof set is "similar" to the mint set except one is shinier.
The $60 item is a single medal. The $200 item is four medals with four different finishes as well as four different mint marks. It is "similar" in that it is the Liberty medal. But is more "dissimilar" than "similar".
I'm not sure it will sell out, especially quickly.
1) It's a MINT MEDAL. How many people collect mint medals?
2) It's $200. That starts to be a price point that people will think twice about.
3) The original medal only sold 48k at a much more attractive price point.
That said:
1) It is flashy looking.
2) The mintage is only 50,000.
3) It is the only place you will find 3 of the 4 medals.
4) There are many Terminator fans out there.
I can see it going either way. What I can't see is this set being worth more than $200 6 months or a year from now.
I like it. But I will plan on buying it a couple years from now when my guess is that it is selling for under $100.

I think it's a great set.

They can't STILL be getting returns, can they?
They will stop selling them after Chirstmas....
Don't quote me on that.

Successful Trades: Swampboy,
I'm not so sure. They can sell them as long as they like. Look at the proof and mint sets from 2016
That would be after Christmas.
Don't quote me on that.
Does anyone suppose there would be a market if I were to break up a set and use it for pocket pieces the next five or so years? Lowball registry?

Too many people own multiples of this set for it to appreciate very quickly. It was a bridge too far.

Anyone into "waffled coins"? I think if the Mint released the leftovers as a Waffled Set, they would turn a loser into a breakfast for champions.
With the 17RC set no longer available. Time to get back to work & resuscitate this dead horse
+1
