The third best team(Alabama) in the conference has no business being in the playoffs. They are not a dominate team. They were also outgained by LSU. Saban deciding that the media were no longer Rat Poison and used them to lobby(beg) for the 4th spot that no one else seemed to be doing what they should do to get it.

Mark and Larry, if it's really about the best Teams why don't they ever play during the season?? if they did there might be something objective to gauge things by instead of just random statistics which don't always tell us the truth.

on any given Saturday.........................that's why they play the games.

I work with a Michigan fan, two OSU fans and a bunch of Auburn fans. I had so much fun at work today that I stayed longer than normal. On a call in radio show this morning, an Auburn fan named Shadow called in. He was so mad about us being in that he started crying, that's right, crying. One of the OSU fans reminds me of Garnett, his name is Ralph. I give Ralph hell. I ask him lots of questions about Iowa. The Michigan fan is named Greg. Greg said if Bama wins it all he will move back to Detroit. I told him I'd help him pack. Like I said, today was fun.

I made about a dozen copies of this to take to work tomorrow.

FWIW....When we lost to Auburn all the above gave it to me as well. We have fun, talk smack and get kinda ugly at times but we all know it's just good old fun.

    BS/SOS......that's bullsitter, son of saban

How are you going to know who are the best teams at the beginning of the season. Pre season polls are worthless and a crapshoot. Look at Florida State this year. Alabama thought they scheduled a heavyweight. #1 vs #3. Alabama has scheduled Michigan and Wisconsin in the past to open the season. OSU scheduled Oklahoma. OSU has TCU the next two years. Would I love to see more heavyweight matches sure. It can It never be equitable unless everyone is playing exactly the same schedule.

Garnettstyles head will explode if Bama wins it all. You might see his head along the horizon all the way from Alabama. I remember in 2014 when most thought a Big Eight should have went. Instead they sent OSU in controversy . Ohio State ended up winning it all. Therefore garnettstyle said they obviously made the right choice. That means if Alabama wins it will mean it was the correct choice. I'm sure he will whine about it and be a hypocrite if they do. He will have some irrational reason. I'm confident somehow he will claim the National Championship for OSU. Just watch. He will find himself a computer who says they are and hand a banner it his basement next to his Cornelius Greene for Heisman poster

Very true but 2014 was different than 2017 because... [insert bs here]. Seriously though, I coached kid's sports for a number of years and my biggest lesson to them was don't blame the refs/umps/whoever when you lose. Instead figure out what YOU can do better the next game so that the refs/umps/whoever aren't able to be involved with the decision. They are not at fault. Likewise the committee is not at fault here. Don't lose by 31 to Iowa is THE reason. If Ohio State had beaten Iowa we wouldn't be having this conversation. It's simple.

Alabama was outgained by 7 whole yards in 14 point win. Wow how damning. Total yards means zip on the scoreboard. Laughable

Oh and you left this part out in the the very same article. Don't you worry I have your back

"Once again, don’t shed tears for Ohio State or USC.

The Buckeyes completely blew it when they got hammered 55-24 at Iowa, a performance so inexplicable and unforgivable that the committee just couldn’t see past it. I would argue that the Trojans should be given a little bit of a pass for their three-point loss at Washington State on a Friday night when three offensive line starters were injured, but they certainly weren’t competitive at Notre Dame in a 49-14 beatdown."

I think even a respectful loss at Iowa would have them in. Instead the Nation saw with their own eyes in prime time the beat down. Can't unsee that. Oh and they lost at home by 15 to Oklahoma.

scrap the conference championships (because they mean a shade more than diddly squat) and use that week to fire up an 8-teamer. toss in OSU, USC, Auburn, & Wisconsin and let them slobber-knock for 7 games. i'd be happier than a puppy with two peters.

I like it in theory but what about Penn State? How about including UCF?

And Id be happy to scrap the Championship game but I can't see it happening. The B1G needs one for sure otherwise garnettstyle would be claiming one for OSU every year regardless if they finished first or not

Thank you and I think OSU will turn it around and beat Iowa next year since you'll be playing them in Columbus.

They don't play iowa next year.

Problem is they didn't play them this year either.

Mark, I don't know what the schedules look like since they are done 4-5 years out, but OSU and Oklahoma doing what they did the last two years is a start. if there was more of that, things would be clearer at this time of year.

back to the Conference Championships..........................wasn't it 2015 when the Buckeyes got in essentially because the Big 12 had no Conference Championship?? it was thought TCU would be in but that was the committee's reasoning. add to that OSU getting picked as a non-Champ and now Alabama. it seems rather arbitrary, the conference game is used as a reason one year and then excused the next.

past that, the whole process has left the Pac 10 looking like the red-headed stepchild and Ohio State/Big 10 routinely on the bubble. I know it comes across as paranoid thinking or whining, but NCAA Football seems to be focused on only Teams that lie below an arc sweeping from Mississippi up and over to North Carolina. below that and you re safe, everywhere else and it's a struggle.

    how has that happened??

For the buckeye haters who keep bringing up the Iowa game, LSU lost 2 games when they won the championship in 2007. They lost to a 5 loss Kentucky team that year. Yes the football team lol. The Iowa loss means zero if a team can bounce back. And they did beating a top 15 team by 45 points. But the haters always forget to mention the big wins to help their cause.

    Cheers.

Now that the committee is putting in 2 teams from the same conference, we need an 8 team playoff. Just ask auburn fans. They are going through some major crap right now from the Bama fans. Auburn played three out of the four playoff teams. Beat two out of three, ranked # 2 last week...and gets left out. They had to play georgia twice, while Bama never had to play against them. Ouch.

What's worse? Losing to a 7-5 team or losing to a 4-8 team like Clemson did? I know if a big ten team lost to a 4-8 team, all you haters would be crying they don't deserve to be in the playoffs.

    1. Clemson

    2. Oklahoma

    3. Georgia

    4. Alabama

    5. Ohio State

    6. USC

    7. Auburn

    8. Wisconsin

    9. Penn State

    10. Washington

my final words(I hope) on the topic just so everyone understands, I accept the final decision and won't lose any sleep over it.

what makes me nuts is the arbitrary way that the final four Teams are picked, almost as if the decision is made beforehand about which Teams are wanted in the playoff. all the Polls I have seen last week showed Wisconsin ahead of Alabama. that means there was a consensus of opinion that everyone in the know felt they were the better Team. everything else should be meaningless if that is the true feeling of all the voting members who are supposed to be smarter than the rest of us.

the rest, as they say, is history. now, on to the rest of my life.

Ya but he keeps pointing to Mercer. Ohio State had UNLV. Alabama scheduled Florida State. Alabama to their credit always schedules a heavy weight to start the season. Just as Ohio State does. That's a wash. Sometimes it doesn't work out that way. Just like When Ohio State thought they were scheduling a tough home and home with Virigina Tech. VT ended regressing and were no longer a Top 15 program when the games came around. The irony is that VT upset a heavily favored OSU at the shoe. It was the same year OSU got voted into the playoffs and won it all I believe.

As for the 2007 and LSU. Obviously there were no playoffs that year and there weren't a bunch of quality one loss teams in front of them.

Some Ole Miss players are leaving and Coach wants Shea Patterson to come to Michigan, and I don't blame him. I like Harbaugh, I think it would be fun to play for him instead of that stick in the mud. I followed the story this summer when they were in Italy. What former OSU QB walked off the set and then came back on said the following when it was revealed that Alabama got the #4 spot?

"I got up and walked off. And I think symbolic of what if you’re watching this and you’re just a college football fan. We all said, ‘Well, I think it should be Alabama, but it’s gonna be Ohio State. They’re gonna do the politically correct thing.’ Committee just made a statement.”

I grew up with relatively unbiased sportscasters in Los Angeles. Vin Scully, Chick Hearn, Joel Meyers, etc.... I dislike homer announcers but especially dislike when they are on the national level. That's just an embarrassment. Really pathetic. Is your college really that big of a deal to you!? The guy is a great announcer so I just can't imagine doing that. Just announce. Do your job. Don't get your panties in a wad on national tv. Oh well.

Vin Scully was my favorite Baseball broadcaster... Radio or TV

Chick Hearn was probably the most exciting radio sports broadcaster I have ever heard. Back in the day, he did the Lakers and I thought he did the Kings too on occasion. He was amazing and had so many phrases and ways of describing sports action that one did not need a television.

As a fan, it is hard to complain about 10-2, finishing ranked 9th, and going to the Fiesta Bowl against Washington. But at the same time, expectations were so high this season and this was our year to make a run and they blew it in the last 5 minutes against OSU, and lost a crazy, close game against MSU in terrible weather. The season feels like a disappointment until you remember where the team was just a few seasons ago.

The committee's excuse for not putting in ohio state was the iowa loss. So why didn't they put in Wisconsin? Similar resume as alabama. Of course we all know the answer to that question....sec of course.

Clemson compared to Clemson last year?

Vegas likes Alabama. Clemson spread moved from +1.5 to +2 and 59% of money
    coming in on Clemson.

Last years Bama team was better. This years team is better on offense but not as good on defense. Not only did we lose some good defensive players to the NFL last year we lost 4 linebackers during the year. We should have 3 of those back for Clemson. As for Clemson, I think they are just as good on defense or better than last year, not as good on offense. They've played twice and both games were great, I expect the same this year, jmo.

    Bama 34
    Clemson 31

The committee's excuse for not putting in ohio state was the iowa loss. So why didn't they put in Wisconsin? Similar resume as alabama. Of course we all know the answer to that question....sec of course.

They probably figured if OSU could beat them they weren't very good.

I'm starting to think he doesn't like Alabama or teams from south :p

Where I'm from Ohio State is in the south!

10 out of the last 19 national champions have come from the SEC.

I think the data proves that the SEC will always get the nod from the voters. They've earned it.
Alabama has won 4 of the last 8 national championships. Ohio State has won one. I think Bama passes the eye test more than OSU.

Overrated. Fake news. The sec is down. LOL! Seriously though it is very impressive. It's hard to deny the dominance. It all starts with 5 star recruits and goes from there... great coaches, great fans, etc.... I am not an SEC "fan" but am certainly impressed.

Ohio state is the best football program in history.

SEC vs Big 10 in bowls (All Time)

    49 wins 29 losses

Most of those games were played in the south. Even when Bama plays in the super dome, it's basically a home game for them.
