I watched the ESPN rankings show and two items caught my attention:

Vegas odds makers favored Alabama over any of the other top 8 teams if they played.
The smallest spread was Alabama -1 vs Ohio State.
The greatest spread was Alabama -12 vs Miami. (Vegas recognizes that Alabama and Ohio
State are favorites of the bettors.)

And, they seemed to think that if Miami beats Clemson in a close game,
both ACC teams get in. But, if Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Auburn win, who gets displaced?

Clemson would certainly have the best two loss resume and they did beat Auburn. I suppose it would I help if Auburn beat Georgia. Anyways so much could happen. Also a two loss Oklahoma would have the second best resume with a win over OSU. It could get really weird

everyone is thinking "Win and In" which is the most logical outcome this weekend and also the one that makes it easy for the committee to choose four Teams. would anyone like to take a stab at disaster????

who would be playing and where would they be ranked if the Top Four Teams all lost??

    TCU can beat Oklahoma.
    Miami can beat Clemson.
    Georgia can beat Auburn.
    Ohio State can beat Wisconsin.

I don't think those four things will happen, but if it did who would be ranked where?? would they simply slide 5-8 to 1-4??? the interesting thing about that scenario is that Alabama would actually benefit by not playing in a Championship game and TCU would be kept out even though they won a Championship.

Any of that can happen. Benefiting from not playing in a Championship Game happened last year with OSU and could happen this year for Alabama. Things could get super weird

There are no dominate teams this year. Bama is not the same team as usual. Tons of injuries. Clemson lost to a bad Syracuse team. Oklahoma and every other team is beatable.

How in the world is Fresno state ranked? They lost to UNLV. Yes the football team.

    Stanford
    Clemson
    Georgia
    Wisconsin

And I am still on the fence with the Sooners -Horhed Frogs match up. I just see the Sooners having the slightest edge.

OSU-USC would be a terrific matchup. I would like to see that. The Fiesta Bowl would be as good a spot as any.

Edited to add... Those that saw the PAC 10 Championship game got their monies worth. Terrific game. In the fourth quarter, It really looked as if Stanford was going to score with a 1st and goal situation. A Stanford TD would have put them ahead 28-24. The Trojan defense put forth an amazing goaline stand. The following Trojan procession was nothing short of a miracle... the USC QB was going to be sacked In the end zone on a critical third down. Instead, he managed to complete a 54 yard pass which ultimately lead to another touchdown and a 10 point lead... But Stanford continued to make it a game their own offensive dramatics and just came up short. I think this was the best PAC 10 Championship game that I can remember.

    Hoping for chaos:
GA blows out Auburn (not likely)
Ohio State beats Wisc (more likely)
Miami beats Clemson in a close but sloppy game.
    TCU beats Oklahoma.

UCF finishes unbeaten. They should sneak into the Top Ten. Scott Frost takes the Nebraska job

    No room for Alabama.

I'm sure the committee will also factor that OSU lost to a team with five losses by 31 . If OSU wins it will be a long night for OSU and Alabama. OSU with better wins but two losses. I wouldn't want to be a committee member with those two rabid fan bases. I will enjoy reading the OSU and Bama chat rooms.

I'm equally surprised Cryst didn't go for it either. It might be why we aren't coaches and making millions a year

    Tomorrow's committee rankings will be..

    4. Ohio State

Auburn getting blown out ruined Any chance alabama had.

OSU has tremendous raw talent. They are not a well oiled machine. Too many mistakes all year long. Alabama to me is the better team. OSU is the more deserving team. If we get in we must clean up the mistakes or it will be over quickly. Any way, congratulations to Wisconsin for a great year and a tremendous effort today, and GO BUCKS!

I'm not sure college wants a OSU- Clemson rematch after last year . I wonder if Clemson would rather play OSU or Alabama?

Let's also remember Wisconsins best win was against 8-4 Michigan at home and the committee had them #4 so strength of schedule isn't the only thing they look at.

JMHO, but what holds Ohio State back is the coaching style on offense which is essentially read/option and nothing else. with the correct players in place it can be very effective but also very predictable. I was surprised at the strength of the OSU defense because Wisconsin is a very good Team, they run what is pretty much a pro-style offense. the only weakness was their OL which had trouble stopping the pass rush or opening any real good lanes for the RB's.

next season will be interesting for both Teams, they each have young, talented players with 2-3 years left.

I think the win by Ohio State causes great difficulty for the committee that has to make the selection. I think Alabama is probably a better Team but neither one will win the Championship. it also forces the discussion which we have had here --- should the conference champions each have an automatic spot along with however many other Teams are needed for a playoff.

  • garnettstylegarnettstyle Posts: 2,143 ✭✭✭✭

Who has alabama beat? They never had to play against the sec champions. Buckeyes have two wins against top ten teams. No team ever deserves to be in the playoffs after losing to their rival. In this case the iron bowl.

Dobbins for ohio state had 174 yds rushing against the number one rated defense in the country.

As has been mentioned here before if Alabama and OSU played on a neutral field Alabama would be a slight favorite. The Buckeyes have had some games this year where their superiority was evident. However sloppy play and mistakes turned those games into nail biters which we pulled out. Tonight our offense scored the first 10 points for the Badgers. We will have to put it all together and eliminate those mistakes just to have any chance at all against Clemson, who will likely be #1.

Absolutely no way OSU is going to be left out. To do so would in essence be a message from the committee that conference championships don't mean jack. Moreover, let's face it, the final taste left in someone's mouth means everything. Alabama didn't even get a chance to leave their footprint and the team they lost their final game to got punked today, whereas Ohio State hoisted a trophy right before everyone went to bed.

Clemson vs OSU..............Oklahoma vs Georgia.................bring it on

Conference championships don't mean jack. Just ask Penn State from last year. PSU got left out and Clemson destroyed OSU, remember that?

    Congrats to the winners...

Ohio State played the better game. The Badgers never established their running game. The first quarter interception while the Badgers were moving the ball was costly. TOP went in favor of the Badgers, but they had too many 3 and outs... Punted five times in the first half. So TOP was more of a reflection of the big play OSU offense. OSU defense played a very good game.

Now to the problem... It is doubtful they get in. All this resume talk does not place OSU in. Yes they won the Big Ten Championship. But USC won the Pac10 championship. Both teams have two losses with OSU having a loss at the hands of Iowa whereby the Hawkeyes scored 55 points. ND trounced USC. Those games keep the conference champions out and Alabama in the picture as the fourth team. That is how I see it... May not make everyone happy but that's the reality for this season.

i paid little attention to the college football season last year (until the title game) and even less to the cfp selection process, so negative.

so PSU won the conference championship and beat OSU H2H, yet they were leapfrogged by the Bucks. ok, got it.

Tough call for the committee but I don't think they let a two loss team in as undeserving as OSU. OSU showed they don't belong by getting smoked by OU earlier this year. I think not letting Penn St in last year is the precedent needed for the committee to go with Alabama over OSU. Will be very ironic if that happens though I think OSU fans will fail to see it that way.
