Sorry you are out part of your money, but I think you're VERY lucky you got the lion's share back. I know this must be very frustrating. Wow...what a sad, disturbing tale. My guess is something has happened in this guy's life we unaware of. In any event, hope you get whole.

I messaged two moderators last time he posted over there in the B/S/T section with a link to this post and didn't hear back from either, the post stayed up as well. He posts over there semi-actively.
After contacting my lawyer and being directed to the prosecuting attorney in hunters neighborhood, I was advised to send one last email warning hunter that failure to return my money will give the green light to the prosecuting attorney to press forward. He was warned on thursday that he had until monday to comply. On monday he paypal'ed me the amount owed plus an extra $15 which I sent over to MACGE to help him recoup his loss. I am not sure the outstanding balance or what is being worked out with MACGE, but I have been paid back.

total time was 7 months and 5 days. Unfortunately I cannot press ahead with the prosecutor and I have given MACGE all the information and contact info I had so that way he can move forward if hunter does not pay him back.
Wow, that's great news. I never thought I would hear that. Persistence (And threat of prosecution) pays off. Good for you. Now the other parties need to follow your lead.
I haven't been. I'm still owed $825. I guess if I would have been as tough with him as Joebb21 I might've been paid. It might be time to change tactics...lol.

I would have liked to see the legal action against his pattern of fraud; he will just move on to the next victim and the others who have been ripped off will have to navigate the challenging and very expensive legal hurdles to get justice. So Hunter gets no record with the authorities, pays back with no interest or aggravation costs and now is sleeping better at night. So not much of a deterrence to the next scammer.

who knows where he got the $$ to pay @joebb21. I'm betting it's from his next victim. once a scammer, always a scammer.

He contacted me via an email, at first I didn't recognize the name:
"I am going to sell 3 of my rare coins if you are interested.
1) 1796 S-114. This is a rare Sheldon. Fine net vg
$1000
2) 1838 N-16 AU. The N-16 is rare and very rare at this grade. The N-16 was short lived as the obverse had extreme flowlines and the reverse was near its terminal state (nearly no denticles).
I believe it was cleaned but to what extent is hard because the flowlines sort of make it hard for me to say.
This is a stellar coin with strong color.
$3500
"3) 1862-s $20 AU58. A blockbuster coin. Not only in a NGC holder but in an early generation holder.

He is an active poster on Cointalk (in the discussion forums and B/S/T forum. He has posted a few ads recently so I wouldn't be surprised if that is where some of the money came from.
I don't log in here very often these days, but I received an email from a member across the street yesterday, using their 'Contact a Member' feature from the NGC Registry.
The text is similar to the message a couple of posts above this one. It goes like this:
"Hello Coin Trader,
Red Llama, a Collectors Soceity member, used our contact form to send you the following message:
I am going to sell a few coins and curious if any inerested you. The first two of probably zero interest but the 1862-S Double Eagle is a blockbuster coin.
1) A rare Sheldon variety. 1796 s-114
2) 1838 N-16. High grade and very rare.
3) 1862-S $20. Not necessarily super rare but rare in this grade: Coin is AU58 NGC and is also in an early holder.
Maybe trade? Coins for coins?"
The email from Collectors Soceity was dated 8-28 at 11:34pm, from member "Red Llama".
I haven't read all the posts in this thread, so I apologize if this is duplicative, but I wanted to get the message out that this guy is apparently using the NGC forum contact form, and going by the user name 'Red Llama'.
Hope this helps.

Yes those are the rolls indeed. He claims that he sent a package of coins to me to in lieu of the money he owes me which should be here on Tuesday. Either way this is going to be wrapped up by this week.

If you ever receive a package, have it opened before a USPS clerk or film it. Don't be surprised if the box is empty.
@MACGE1 At this point, the authorities still need to be involved. His MO appears to be to collect as much as possible and only pay restitution to those that fight back. Many won't. Someone needs to turn up the heat.
