I can see it with a 16x loop, its there but I can't get the iPhone to get that close....Defiantly an S. (Unless Dan says he didn't use any s mint hosts, then it is a smashed D!)

I can almost see it if I download your pic and blow it up.

My 1917 fantasy has an "s" on the reverse. Hard to image but its there ...a flat S. So I have a 1917-S fantasy overstrike!

Probably because the host coin was an S mint and the "S" still shows slightly.

Here are Dan's close ups of the PL clashed dies! It looks gorgeous.

How often do you see clashed dies on a proof?

Zoins and Voyageur, thanks for the heads-up. I ordered one last night.

My only surprise is it took so many hours to sell the 23 in stock.

From Hounddog's pictures (which are excellent!), it looks that there may have been ?some die wear on the obverse as if you compare Miss Liberty's hair to, say, the Carr 1964 Peace dollar there looks to be less detail & even to earlier 1917 dollars. Still, a beautiful coin, and one I still enjoy very much.

I like the slabs you put those in twobitcollector!

I did see the clashed PL Morgan this am- they are cool but I'm saving my money for the Clark Gruber 1.5 Octs., and any more "broken sword" finishes...I gotta choose my battles with Dan's releases. So goes the collector who is on a budget :(

Dan, it would be cool if you would offer an off the cuff creation, and then put this up on your website at random. Maybe a mintage of 2-3 of whatever...it would be kind of like a lottery for the Carr collectors!

Thank you for that compliment. It is much appreciated.
If you compare the 1921 high relief to the say, any other year Peace dollar, you'll also see a huge difference in Miss Liberty's hair. Completely different die sets. The high relief on this particular coin is absolutely beautiful to say the least. Great job Dan.

I've been looking this 1917 peace dollar over and I must say it is everything I was hoping for and then a whole bunch more. I have never been so impressed with Mr. Carr's work and I have quite a few of his pieces . This one here is absolutely my favorite. The relief is .030 above the surface and it's something to behold. The luster is BOOMING !! Really a special piece.
    Great work !!

He would have to create another die as once they were clashed you can't go back.

Only 13 were produced and it had a buy limit of only 1 when they were available for like 10mins. If you can find one for sale scoop it up. They will all be in permanent collections soon if they aren't already.

With these real limited editions, if you are going to sell them you would be doing everyone a favor and list an open auction or closed bid auction on the bst. I just had seen that coin go for 750 very quick, I think someone might have done better here!
