A big thanks to Dan for allowing us to visit to mint the Knights medals! Like the last time I was there, it was a fun and educational experience. Dan is a great host and a minting master! The amount of expertise and creativity that goes into his medals are amazing.
Stop over at the Knights website to read the details of the trip including a ton of photos by @Gluggo !
Here's @Lakesammman's report from our earlier visit to the Moonlight Mint.
I think it's a mistake to repeat any 1964 Peace Dollars in any format. There are enough other good ideas for the overstrike series without cannibalizing demand for the previous works.
I like many of the various concepts that Dan has explored. The high relief approach is attractive overall and could be employed on his Hard Times Tokens, Medals and Pioneer series.
I think it would be more interesting for him to delve further into his creative side. His whimsical tokens such as the Stonehenge and Wirtland tokens always caught my fancy, and the octagon pieces are interesting as well. I consider some of his political commentary such as the panda coin and the pyramid of debt to be classics.
I'd be ecstatic about a flowing hair Stella and a silver center Large Cent. I think the Gasparro Liberty design that was trashed in favor of the SBA dollar should be produced by somebody, someday.

It would be great for Dan to do one of these. Frank Gasparro's 1977 Liberty design has been done a few times by different people but none are exactly like the original design, aside the cheap ones from China. In 2017, Ken Potter ordered 200 of the design struck over SBA dollars from the Royal Oak Mint. Unfortunately, while overstruck a genuine dollar, it still uses the COPY word. But I am very intrigued with what Daniel could do now in high relief with new to him actual imagery.
I suspect this new mintage will hurt the value of my 64D Peace $ collection which I incorrectly stated was 7 pieces. Silly me, I own ten.
Of course value only matters when you sell and I plan to keep the 10.
Would be sad to see them go bye bye as a hedge against their predictable value drop when much better new ones hit the market nine years after the initial mintage closed.
I am sure Dan would put a mark of some kind that would easily identify the new 1964-D Peace Dollar strikes from the older ones. Or the enhanced Higher Relief would identify them from the older strikes.
No need to lose sleep over the new strikes.
I also vote THUMPS UP for this coin.
Frank Gasparro's 1977 Liberty design. This coin would look great in silver,,,,, copper and even a 1/4 oz gold with all the different finishes, I especially like the antiqued finish. I didn't care for the antiqued finish until I bought one and saw it in-hand,,,,,, very nice.

I believe I purchased the last 1805 Draped Bust Dollar (circulated). Within moments of placing my order the status went to SOLD OUT. I can't wait to get it.

I like the circulated version a bit better than the brilliant satin. So I'm surprised it took so long to sell out -- especially given its much lower mintage (72 vs 171).
Anyway, I'm VERY glad I got both.
And can't wait to see my KOTCT medals. Should arrive here Monday 1/27 according to USPS.

For something completely different - I just stumbled upon and obtained this Jacksonville Coin Club 70th Anniversary Medal.
Sounds like there was a lot of variability with the color toning -- might be interesting to post some of the varieties as they disperse. I prefer the flat color/toning style like this:

That is actually one type of "antiqued" finish that I have done. I consider it to be an "antiqued" version rather than a "color toned" version (because the mint luster has been replaced with a matte finish with patina applied over that).
Wow you got a nice color tone there -- I have several but they are all yellow/gold, a few have a green tinge. IF anyone wants to trade a blue for gold/yellow, PM me --

Kudbegood I think you nailed it on the head! I like that idea gonna steal it if its okay with twobit! Looks like it makes it for a nice display! Just need to find a good bottom holder. Looks custom to fit the tray.

I had a hard time deciding whether to overstrike these bars because I liked them so much!
In the end, Merlin got overstruck and the antiqued silver Clark Gruber stayed as-is.
