Newp from WAG (Westfälische Auktionsgesellschaft). It was my first experience with them -- their online auction site was easy to use and they take Paypal so the transaction was painless, albeit +4% surcharge.
I may have shown this one before, but re-shot it with my new camera--so if I did, this is much better . I love how the sun is red vs. the background, and it's a nice contrast to the windowsill blue one posted a bit ago. The double phoenix (hoo bird) silvers really can tone up nice! This one sits in an MS-66 slab.
This thread has been dormant...here are a couple coins to bump it up.
First up--Albania under the Italian Occupation during WWII. The denominations are a bit different/metal reduced, but with the same design team in charge, the new coins were not overly different. This one looks very much like a couple of King Zog's coins in terms of style and toning.
Second--a nice Japanese Showa 21 (1946) I got in a raw lot from a forum member. This little brass coin sure got hit with a toning stick! Very different than my other examples.
This one is an interesting transition piece. On the side with the large central denomination the legend at the top translates to 'Government of Japan'. Pre-war the legend is 'Great Japan' and after the post-war constitution it's 'Country of Japan'. The script below the denomination is the date, still reading from right to left.
Another Japanese coin find. A whopping $2 at a local coin show. A simple brass coin frequently found as a dull or even with corrosion. Somehow, somewhere, someone stuck this 1974 coin of a mintage just under a billion (!) into some environment that produced this. I found it in a simple 2x2. If anything, the color might be a tad brighter.
Also from the show was this little lady. My more expensive buy but still cheap (I didn't go over $20 while there and probably overpaid on this one...I had no idea on the 'catalog' and just bought it).
In hand the luster is awesome. I had to keep the shot a little under-exposed to keep the highlights down. I love the volcano, the anvil (I took a blacksmithing class once when I was on leave) and woman who looks about 5 months preggers in the right angle (especially on the larger denominations).

Yes, it is. I have the entire 1937 matte specimen set and the half dollar posted might be my favorite in the group.

A couple of older images. My back still isn't cooperating when I lean over a camera.

I failed to win anything at the NYINC main event auctions but I did pickup this nice medal in the junior varsity auction.
And this one, too. I think I was lucky to win it because it could have done much better in the live auction.
