I know how tough those are Dan - congratulations on your pickup buddy.
edit: people may have trouble finding this post - I had to change the last number on the URL to see it. It's the same thing that used to happen on the thread I started like 10 years ago.
Very excited about this last addition. The Peel Offs have DREADFUL centering problems. While not perfectly centered, it's hard to find one with this much white space on all 4 sides.
Every time I think I've abandoned this thread, I come back and update it. This might be the last one. Yeah right, I've said that before.
Above is a complete set of the 1971 Red Sox team issue. I plan to sub the Yaz, which will only be the 9th copy graded by PSA. All the other cards have between zero and 2 copies graded.
Thanks Nate. That Venz kills 2 birds with one card. Obviously it helps my Yaz master (1 of 4 Yaz Venies I now own) but it's also a key to my new 68 Venz project. Got 24 of those so far.

Dan...you must have nearly every Yaz collectible out there in the market, Quite a dedication to one player...i don't know the history behind your passionate collection of Yaz material...but it is impressive.
Dan ... nice '63 Peel Off. I like that insert set!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Thanks Doug, I like them too. Monte, I appreciate the kind words and I'm very proud of my Yaz collection, but there are more impressive ones for sure. Manny (flatfoot816) has the #1 Yaz PSA master set, over 95% complete, and he has a bunch of unopened packs with Yaz on top, including a 1960 RC cello. With 5 graded Yaz I expect to receive today and 5 more at PSA, I'm more like 33% complete on my master set so far, and I don't collect unopened.
Why do I collect Yaz? The short answer is that he was my dad's favorite player and became mine too. He was still playing during my childhood, but my dad had been in his late teens during that magical '67 season and Yaz was/is like a god to him. My dad doesn't collect, but he is the one who got me started collecting. About 12 years ago I started picking up Yaz cards whenever I could, but this was before I ever owned a graded card or had heard of the PSA registry, so I bought mostly raw beaters at first. As I upgrade to nice graded copies, those beaters and placeholders get passed down to my sons. My youngest in particular is fond of Yaz. He's got 50+ Yaz cards, including a VG RC and 5 PSA graded cards.
Dan...It is always interesting to hear how collectors fall in "love" with a particular player. I remember that magical season and how Yaz led the team to the American League pennant. Oh the memories...those were good childhood times.
Nice stuff Dan and you have more that will be coming your way from me soon!
I obviously didn't know what this meant! Went to my mailbox today and, lo and behold, a package of generous freebies from Brent. The most rewarding part of the set registry for me has been connecting with collectors who share the same interests. Manny, Brent and I constantly network with each other on Yaz stuff. I had a similar relationship with the #1 Gino guy before he retired his set and I replaced him. Anyway, here are the cards from Brent. Thanks again dude!
For those who didn't know, this panel (#2) with Yaz is never given a numerical grade because all copies have a severe factory miscut
OK, as some of you must have seen, Brent (ugaskidawg) and I worked a deal for me to purchase some of his leftovers from his 84 Star Yaz project. The set is 24 cards and I was able to, in one fell swoop, land 75% of the set, all in PSA 8 or higher. This is the largest group of graded cards I've ever bought in one transaction. Thanks Brent!
#8 is pop 5, with only 1 higher. #16 is pop 6, with none higher. Some of Yaz's friends you'll see include George brett, Johnny Bench and Gaylord Perry.
Yeah, PSA doesn't grade the Star basketball, but they do grade the Star baseball. Not sure why they made that distinction, other than rumors about the Jordan RC being counterfeited.
Happy that I was able to help Dan out. I might be one of the few people crazy enough to really go after this set. Some of the sub fees are worth more than what these cards go for. For me it's all about chasing the elusive 10s in this set! I have another sub of these off to Newport Beach as we speak.
Dan ... real nice additions over the past 10 days. Your YAZ collection must be a great one to see in person.
Brent - What a great gesture on your part!

Just added this to my Bazooka collection . 1964 is one of the tougher years to find full boxes. A little beat up but its all there. I am in desperate need of this item ( 1964 Bazooka Yaz Panel) as a high grade panel if anyone has one for sale or trade. Thanks Scott
I don't own any Bazooka cards, panels or boxes. It's a big hole in my Yaz collection.
It's a difficult hole to fill as we know. I have only a few (1963, 1966, and 1971). The ones on ebay right now are not in great shape and don't come cheap.
I was the lucky and humbled recipient of some board generosity from one of CU's nicest guys, DialJ.
What I really like about this card is that it's not miscut at the top. I would say that at least 80% of the copies I've seen are miscut.
In the package, James also included a cool centerfold, taken out of a Topps Magazine sometime in the 90's. Thought I'd share that as well. I don't talk about it much on here, but I'm a huge fan of Teddy Ballgame as well. Thanks again James!
Kyle and I had a PSA sub pop recently and I got it back yesterday. It included 2 cards for my 1968 Venezuelan registry, but my favorite portion was the following 3 pretty scarce Yaz cards. Pop stats below each.
^^Pop 2, one higher
This one is pop 3 with none higher. I popped 2 of the 9's on this last order
Pop 1, with 4 higher (not as impressive as the other 2 cards).
The next "card" came in the mail today. Honestly, I think this one is ugly. The homage to 59 Topps had such potential, but I hate the drawing. Regardless, I needed it for the master set, it's low pop, and I got it for a good price from CU member Counselor. Pop 3, with only 1 higher
Yep that's one fugly card there Dan. Here's a quote from Yaz I ran across, you'd like: "I'm very pleased and very proud of my accomplishments, but I'm most proud of that (hitting four-hundred home runs and three-thousand hits). Not (Ted) Williams, not (Lou) Gehrig, not (Joe) DiMaggio did that. They were Cadillacs and I'm a Chevrolet

Yaz is the man and this quote shows that. I'm biased of course.
Got this back from a PSA sub. My 4th PSA graded Venz Yaz:
Today I got back the card below. I now am only one card away from completing the basic Topps run. If anybody has an 82 Topps PSA 9 they're willing to sell, I'd appreciate it.

Oops, I promised you a short answer.
I like the kielbasa Yaz stuff.
Nice to see you got another Topps Vene. card - so tough.
Ya know? I saw a nice auto card at Topps Vault - but I thought it was too much to pay right now.
Nice stuff Dan and you have more that will be coming your way from me soon!
Yes sir, once we complete that deal it will be the largest graded lot I've ever purchased.
Congratulations on your latest pickups Dan.

We have a life long love affair with mystery meat stuffed in casing.
Sorry on AC - decided not to attend - will see you next year in Chicago tho!

I like the red borders and the cards look great!
I didn't realize he was an 18 time AS. That puts him I'm some rarified air buddy.
They don't come much better - though sadly he lacked one thing - a WS ring.

Also bought more Star Yaz cards from Brent. Now only need one card to complete the set of 24 in PSA 8-9.

I still love that 71 team issue you got graded!
Master set progress: 129 items, 34.5% complete
Although, my set contains 3 cards I want to upgrade, so really 126 spots completed.
