Very cool, Dan. I became aware of the deckle edge cards when Archives did them in 2012, and they do have a lot of appeal. Had no idea that there were O-Pee-Chee versions as well. Fun addition for you.

Digging the OPCs! I didn't think his usual auto looked like it was written by a 3rd grader though?
  • JBrulesJBrules Posts: 2,126 ✭✭✭✭✭
Dan, that OPC Deckle is way beyond cool! I'm a big fan of the Deckle. Congrats.

No, you're right. He has 2 autos, his "early" sig and the one he's used from the early 80s to present. This is neither of them. Weird.
  • lawnmowermanlawnmowerman Posts: 19,477 ✭✭✭✭
Wow the 69 Deckle looks even better with the larger scan. Seeing it on the phone didn't do it any justice.

I see your boy made the cover of SMR!

  • That deckle edge is an awesome card.

One thing I love about this card, that others may think is strange, is that it has none of the typical paper loss on back or glue residue. Seems to have never been pasted in an album. I know most of you are probably thinking, "Yeah, but it's got pen ink all over the back." For reasons I can't explain, I prefer that to the paper loss I'd come to expect. >>

So thats where that card went.
I had it in my "watch list" and went looking for it when the 5x eBay Bucks were offered.
Happy to know it went to a good home, and I completely agree with your comments on the paper loss vs. the mark, plus the mark is on the back.
As far as the grade, the centering is tough, but I would not be surprised with a 3(MK).

Good Luck and Congrats from a fellow Yaz collector!

Thanks Bill, that means a lot. Folks, Bill has a tremendous Yaz master set, 5th all time finest. 63% complete with an 8.32 weighted GPA!

The personal Rushmore thread got me thinking. For purposes of that thread, I limited myself to 4 total cards from my collection, but of course there are several other cards that are very special to me. I had the idea to do a Yaz Rushmore and a Gino Cappelletti Rushmore. I won't do a Hannah Rushmore, because I'm not far along enough yet in that endeavor. Here are my top 4 Yaz cards, with both sentimental and monetary value considered:

    AND HONORABLE MENTION:

    Very nice Dan.

The honorable mention is no slouch either.

Thanks Mike. Got a couple of new additions in the mail today....

I love vintage league leader cards with multiple HOFers. But even more I really love the color of this Topps coin. It wouldn't scan properly, so had to go with a cell phone pic. The blue really pops in hand!

Edited to add: these 2 additions put me at 20% on the master set!

Nice adds! Does the coin holder have PCGS on the plastic (front lower-right)?

Yes sir! I have a graded pin in the same holder.

I don't know how I've missed that on other sports coins before.

    Very nice pickups Dan.

I like the pins - tho I don't collect them.

On the HR leader card - had to think a bit about Howard.

A rock solid player - '60 ROY, 4 time AS, HR leader 1968 and 70 (44) and actually hit 48 dingers between those years!

  • DanBessetteDanBessette Posts: 6,421 ✭✭✭
Oh yeah, Howard was a legitimate masher for a few years, for sure.

The color of the coin is outstanding and it really displays nicely in that coin holder

This was the biggest remaining card I still needed for my Yaz basic set.

Never bought a PSA card with a qualifier before, but I really liked this card and couldn't pass up the deal. Got it for about $20 less than VCP for a straight 7. Extremely pleased once I got it in hand. Now only need 2 cards (63 and 65 Topps) to complete his basic 60's run.

Congrats on the Fleer card. Looks good for an OC qualifier. I just got around to seeing the coin, that is sweet, displays very nicely.

Congrats Dan. Good bang for the buck on that 9 OC. Nothing like the corners of a 9 card.
  • Nice one!

Thanks! Pretty amazing to hold a card that looks the same as it did when it came out of a pack 52 years ago.

Glad to finally see it, that's a beaut!
  • Very nice card, Dan. Looks great.

Not my main focus, but I like to pick up Yaz relic cards now and then, if the price is right. Got this today, from COMC:

    Hey Dan, nice card.

I have some of the "game used & relic" style cards too, maybe too many, being that the look of some of the modern cards isn't that nice.

That UD 3000 Hit is a nice looking one, classic style and a different, not a reused/seen before photo.

    Great pick up!

Pretty excited about today's mail day. First, this dime for the basic set. Leaves only 6 I need to complete it (although there are 2 more I want to upgrade).

    image

I'm really happy with this next one. I hadn't planned to upgrade my PSA 4, but this 6 is much nicer and the price was right. Only 7 copies graded higher, so very happy with a nice mid grade copy:

That is a great mailday! The Scratch Off is a very cool card. I have never seen one before. I really like the 81 Fleer card. The colors of the uniform, card and holder all go together nicely. The hologram new flip is a bonus. I wasn't sure I liked it when the hologram was first added, but now that I have several of them, I wish all my cards had them.

Thanks guys. Edited to rotate the front scan of the scratch off. Happy to also be 28/34 complete on the basic set too.

Edit to also add: for those who aren't familiar with the scratch offs, they came out the next year (1971) as well. Still need that one.
  • LarkinCollectorLarkinCollector Posts: 8,975 ✭✭✭✭✭
Congrats, great add and upgrade! Looking forward to you completing the basic so it'll be oddball nirvana image

Interesting scratch off card. Now you can bust open the four and scratch it off. You know you want to lol
  • DanBessetteDanBessette Posts: 6,421 ✭✭✭
Lol I DO want to! But only if somebody else has one too so we can play the game

Got 2 new cards today for the basic set. One is a new addition, one a 2 point upgrade.

    imageimage

I'm getting close to completing the basic run. I've got a 65 Topps coming in the mail, hopefully Friday, and then I'll be at 30/34 complete. Really need 5 cards because I want to upgrade my '71.

And here it is! Got this in the mail today:

Got a helluva deal. Leaves me 1 card shy of completing the 60's portion of the basic set. Then I need 1 new and 1 upgrade to finish the 70's and 2 new to finish the 80's. Below is my wish list, all I need before I consider my 34-card basic set complete:

    1963 Topps #115 in PSA 7

    1971 Topps #530 in PSA 7.5 or 8

    1973 Topps #245 in PSA 8

    1982 Topps #650 in PSA 9

    1984 Fleer #412 in PSA 10

If you have any of those for sale or trade, please let me know. Thanks!

  • JBrulesJBrules Posts: 2,126 ✭✭✭✭✭
Dan, the 80 Topps and 81 Donruss cards are just great examples of his batting. The 80s showing his cl*****ic stance and the in action swing on the 81. Two great looking cards. Congrats.
  • DanBessetteDanBessette Posts: 6,421 ✭✭✭
Thanks! I actually prefer the 65 Topps over most of the basic set, because the photo is so unique. Almost every other basic issue is a head shot or a batting stance. The 65T is definitely different.

Huge mail day today, courtesy of some Christmas generosity by my friend Casey (charrigan)!

    image

This is a big one. With this card filling a gap, I'm now done with the 1960-70 portion of the basic set!

    image

    image

Love the discs, especially when they're minty and in one of these fitted slabs.

    image

I remember loving the Super Vet cards as a kid. Now I have both the Topps and OPC versions.

Casey's generosity didn't stop there! 2 more great additions in the December thread....
  • DanBessetteDanBessette Posts: 6,421 ✭✭✭
I showed this in the Secret Santa thread, but wanted to show it here too. A photo of Yaz with President Carter, with a JSA certified auto of the president, sent from an anonymous Santa:

    image

But the board generosity didn't stop there. Manny sent me a Christmas package with the following 2 cards in it.

    image

I'd never seen this team issue before. The photo is fantastic. Great addition to my master set

Edited to add: team issue is pop 1, only 2 higher!

    image

    image

He also included this great Venezuelan. I now own 3 Venezuelan league leaders cards with Yaz on them, but this is the nicest of the 3, for sure. Thanks Manny!

And STILL the board generosity didn't end there! Nathan (yankeesman) sent me the following card. Hand cut cards are so tough, but this one is beautiful! Thanks again Nathan!
