Scott/LP - Don't know enough about barber half varieties to comment (would like to own a nice circ micro O tho).

Mike - Nice hoard of 01-S's.

KAJ - Love those barber quarters, that 99-S is way under-rated.

    New acquisition, thanks Lenny.

Mike has more coins than the US Mint ! What an array of coins ..

Lenny always has the PQ coins Vern .. Another gorgeous one ... My friend was at FUN yesterday and called me asking if I wanted a 1901-O Quarter PCGS XF40 for $650 .. wish I took it .. sight unseen - said was original and nice.. Good price for a nearly impossible date

The 99-S Quarter is one of my favorite under rated dates .. Totally agree Vern.

Some of the very few circulated rainbow or colorfully toned Barber Halves I have .. The 93 is much more colorful than picture shows and is a fully rainbow toned obverse

Great 09-O quarter, and one of the two remaining upgrade coins on my quarter list.

Mike was a great house guest, he brought a suit case full of coins, and we had a rare opportunity to go through two complete mid grade Barber Half sets coin by coin. At the end of the day, I got five upgrades for the half set, and Mike added several dimes to his new collection.

Even the TSA inspector got to look at Mike's collectionimage

That 92-S was a killer coin. My friend was the under bidder on that coin. I loved it so much, I almost bid on it.

  • Mike,
Thanks for the ANA Summer Seminar summary...I'm sure it was loaded with a wealth of information that's not easily obtained elsewhere and was very enriching for the hobby and hobbyist. Thanks for sharing....also, GOOD EYE on the 10-S...CONGRATS on your win! I had my own eye on that one! image

Fabulous write up on the Summer Seminar you helped to host, Mike! image

My sole Barber find at Summer FUN, though admittedly I was primarily focused on early copper:

Scott - Really like your 99-S quarter. Perfect look to my eye.

MCM - Also a big fan of the 09-O quarter. 7 years ago a well respected dealer from Iowa brought a hoard of 43 of them to a show. Most were F-VF, all were raw. The only one higher than VF was a cleaned XF. I was fortunate enough to get second pick, which is the one in the following picture.

    image
    image

Scott/LP - That wonderful 92-S quarter was secured by a regular of this forum. I imagine he'll comment about it in the near future.

Mike - Thanks for the report on the summer seminar. Wish I'd have been there, sounds like a great learning experience. Also, like that look on that 10-S.

Walkerguy - Nice 02-S acquisition. Have a spare one to sell now? Wishful thinking can't hurt.

In the midst of all these serious Barber collectors of legitimate collecting repute, I insert . . . . . .

Just completed the "Doily Type Set of Barbers", with the acquisition of the Barber Dime.

    The details:

10c. 1907-O MS63 8201291 (Only Barber Dime listed in the Doily Census)
25c. 1892 MS62 6243027 (Only Barber Quarter listed in Doily Census)
50c. 1902 AU55 6245620 (Only Barber Half listed in the Doily Census)

Thanks to our Members who have helped me along the way on this!

Mike, thanks for the report. Really wish i would have gone, but alas I did not. Sounds like it was a pretty good time. And now you move onto the dimes! Nice HA pick-ups! Also, that 01-S from dogwood is gorgeous. If I had the money, he wouldn't have the 02-S either anymore.

Greg, that 02-S is a beauty. it would look good next to my 02-S half WINK WINK. image

BK, holy 09-O! I would love to know who got the 92-S. Really sweet coin.

Frank, try to leave some for the rest of us. image

Drunner, I would love to see pics of your Doily Type set. I have always wondered how many Barbers were out there in Doilies. Guess that gives me a pretty good idea!
  • dogwooddogwood Posts: 1,935 ✭✭✭✭
Mike glad the 01-s is loved!

Vern, thanks for chiming in about the 09-o hoard. I heard it from the horse's mouth a few years ago and repeat it when people get amped up about that date below XF.
    Except I heard 30. Now it's 43!!!
Either way, I love my two raw VF's, but sure do have fond memories my old 45 and 55.
    We're all born MS70. I'm about a Fine 15 right now.

I won the 92-S on Teletrade. It's even nicer in hand than the photos.

Congrats, Doug, it looked like a real stunner. I know my friend was a bit miffed he didn't get it, but it was well worth the price in my opinion. Awesome addition to your set. image

I had that saved to tracked lots Greg .. totally forgot until 1030pm EST about the coins Sunday night ... All it would have done was cost one of us maybe $200 more had I been on .. Cheers!

Dennis - As you probably know, both the 45 and 55 have happy homes. And there were 43, I counted them.

    Mike - beautiful rainbow dime.

Question, how tough are 1894 dimes?

Oh Boy, Oh Boy...those are some nice halves...I wouldn't have the strength to bypass them either! Good eye...first class catch with that "unique" look.

NBG, They are even better in hand. I love nice VF halves.

x2, that is one sweet looking barber!
  • Is there a variety in the 1892 barber quarter, that has a serious strike through on the reverse where you can almost see the whole outline of the obverse? I thought it was a gouge in the reverse until I followed it almost around the whole eagle, where the neck is very much there, then you go to the bottom of the eagle and see the back of the hair! I can see some of the outline with my naked eye, with 5x mag. you can see about 45% of the obverse outline. Please, if anyone knows anything about this let me know. I am very new in collecting I have some pictures but, they are 157kb how do I shrink them?

I was planning on going, Mike, but a vacation with my wife, step son, and our soon to be child took over that weekend. Looks like the next one for me will be the Baltimore Fall show.
