check out redsox.com and listen to Valentine's comments on last night's game. He is TOTALLY lost and worse yet, seems to keep picking his teeth with a toothpick. Valentine has no clue what to do, no direction, no leadership...nada. He stumbles for responses to the interviewers and pretty much looks non-managerial to me.

"I don't like any losses. I've never found a loss that I thought was easy," manager Bobby Valentine said. "They're all difficult."
Wow, really ?? Did you have an epiphany, or do you know some people that enjoy losing?
You are rapidly approaching bozo status, like picking your teeth in the after game interview. Once I deem you as "uber-bozo", a collection will be taken up to have 5 tons of horse squeeze delivered to your driveway.
I am just beyond disgusted and feel that all I'm gonna do is continue to trash the Red Sox team performance...this I take no joy in doing. Therefore, I have decided to just not post for a while...I don't know what a "while" is, but I am only disappointing myself by continuing to hammer this player or that, Bobby or others. It is simply pointless.
The team is in a serious rut that none of us have any control over, but continue to feel the letdown, seemingly day after day. Oh, I'll see the scores and watch a game from time to time, but I'm gonna focus on positive stuff...this crap is really bumming me out.
I'm off to the Gulf Coast this weekend for 4 days of gaming at the Beau Rivage casino. Then I'm planning a trip to Key West, driving from Ft. Myers, staying overnight in Islamorada. Also gonna do a trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Hopefully my happy face returns after all this. Gonna get to Albuequerque and see Chaco Canyon before the summer is gone.
Al, I'm with you. I'm still watching the games and I'm still getting frustrated with the team but at this point, making note of what is wrong with the team just feels like kicking them while they are down. I think it's clear that this is a very flawed team right now and even though it is still early, the best we can hope for is a somewhat competitive team for the rest of the year. I'm still clinging to the hope that they can get one of the wild card slots but I wouldn't be the house on it happening.
the Sox have Pedroia, Oritz, and Gonzalez. Really no other starting players of note. Their pitchers have proven themselves to be average to below average over the last three months of baseball (going back to last year). I see this season as an excellent opportunity to build up some prospects with in-season trades. If it were me, I'd make every pitcher available except for Dubront, Bard, and Aceves. Yes, Lester included. He could bring in some good prospects by a team hoping a change in scenery brings back the old Lester. Position players, I'd put them all on the block except for Gonzalez, Pedroia, and the prospect-type guys like Iglesias and Middlebrooks. I could stand a couple seasons of growing pains with promise of a decent future.
Of course, Ellsbury doesn't get traded this year...you don't sell low (and low is when a guy is injured) unless someone gives you the "healthy trade package" you would get late in the season or in the offseason. I don't think Ellsbury will stay in Boston because the Sox will be (should be!) averse to a long term huge money contract for any player (burned too many times)
Youkilis gets traded only after he comes back, plays a bit, plays well, and demonstrates he's healthy. Of course, trade him before his next trip to the DL (which likely will also be this year)
Although it sucks to give up on this year, I would stand by that plan Barndog. When I see some of these young pitchers that other teams have gotten from making painful-looking trades it makes me a bit envious and I think the last few years have really demonstrated why overpaying for free agents who are already in their 30s isn't a sustainable recipe for success.

there are some exceptions out there, but yes, if you depend on old guys (in baseball, that's about 31+) you are doomed to failure and a high price
It will be interesting to see what happens with Josh Hamilton this year since he is 31, injury prone, and also one of the game's best players. The Rangers practically have to offer him some kind of deal and it has to be a good-faith offer I would think . . . but is signing him to a long-term contract for $20 million or more a year really the best thing for the team?
It seems to me that the best players in baseball are getting younger and younger and all those sabermetric studies about guys hitting their prime at 27 are pretty accurate.

great example. With the Pujols experiment seemingly going badly, is there another team out there that will take a similar risk on someone like Hamilton? I doubt it. I think he gets his best deal from Texas (unless, of course, some team has a billion dollar TV contract come in during the offseason)
Greetings Red Sox Nation !! An incredibly glorious morning in Atlanta, bright sun and 53 degrees!! Now for the crap...
I couldn't resist keeping my fellow Red Sox Faithful informed. Not gonna mention the CHOKE last night ...but wanted those who might have missed this to remain well informed as to the complete cohesiveness of team members and how they are all keeping themselves healthy and not dogging it.
IOW, it appears some things never change.

Two days before he missed a start due to stiffness in his right lat muscle, Boston Red Sox starter Josh Beckett was playing golf, according to 98.5 The Sports Hub.
When asked about it during his appearance Wednesday on WEEI sports radio in Boston, Valentine said he'd heard about the report but had not addressed it with Beckett yet and seemed undecided on how to handle it.
"I'm aware of the story being out there. ... No, I haven't gotten to Josh about that yet and I'm trying to sort out my feelings," he said. "Golf is as much a part of the pitching culture as a curve ball, I know that for sure."
Last Wednesday, the day before Beckett was reportedly spotted on the links, Valentine announced the right-hander would miss his start -- scheduled for Saturday -- with stiffness in his lat muscle.
Valentine told WEEI he wouldn't comment further until he received more information, but noted that Beckett hadn't been shut down with an injury but was merely missing a start due to the tightness.
"When we decided for Josh not to make his start, it wasn't because he was injured," Valentine said. "It was a precautionary situation because his his lat was a little tight."
But he indicated he wouldn't condone that his pitcher play a full round of golf if he's trying to rest.
"Again, I don't know the specifics of the situation," Valentine said. "I don't know if he was out at a charity match, just putting, or if he was whaling away and felt that might have loosened things up. I have no idea what the situation actually is, so it's hard for me to comment on it. ... If that was the case (that he played golf), I would say that was less than the best thing to do on that day off."
Beckett was not with the team in Kansas City on Wednesday to comment, having flown back to Boston in advance of his scheduled start Thursday at Fenway Park.

My friggin hair is on fire !!!!! >>
Im not sure if Valentine could have handled this any better, I mean talk about getting a load of crap thrown in your face. Bottom line Beckett is quickly turning into my least favorite Sox player.
BTW- The Sox just flat out stink, I love em but they are a disaster.
From the never-ending "crap you can't make up" file...(sorry, couldn't resist this one)
“I thought we had a run through the rotation where everyone was throwing the ball pretty well,’’ Valentine said. “We do need to get back to that inner-team competition and just the belief that they can do it.
“We have quality starting pitchers and they’ll be pitching much better.’’
Ok...I'm gone for several days...Mr. Perkdog will be in charge of "notable" updates as I will purposely not be near a computer...maybe a craps and/or blackjack table, but no box with keys. Dontcha love laying by the pool checking things out and just flip the flag up and some cutie comes by and says "can I help you?"
This whole Red Sox thing is much like a block of ice sitting on a manhole cover in Kenmore Square in August. Cool at first, but disappearing rapidly...only a miracle will help the club at this point. Wouldn't you love to be a fly-on-the-wall during managerial meetings with John Henry??!!! In the vernacular of my beloved New England...things are "wicked bad !!
Good to see the Remdawg back...the only positive thing on Yawkey Way.
Just caught this...go to ESPNBoston.com and read Gordon Edes story on Beckett. If you ain't pissed now, you will be after you read this thing !!!
I hope fans respond by staying away from Fenway for a while. Maybe then the owners will figure out that they can't put Liverpool first and let the Sox money machine take care of itself.
since I'm an Indians fan last nights game was fun to watch, can't remember ever seeing them light up Beckett like they did.....is he still hurt or something????
On the bright side, this season will go a long way to ushering out the bandwagon jumpers that came aboard around 2003 and 2004. That's probably not much of an issue in New England but out here in California I'd venture to say that 80% of the people I run into wearing Red Sox hats couldn't name more than two or three players from any of the Red Sox teams in the 90s.
As for me and how I view this year, I am going to work on lowering my expectations significantly and try to view the Red Sox as an underdog team where every win can be celebrated as a big achievement rather than something I expected to see. I don't know if I'll be successful in that though since it's pretty hard to view a team with this kind of payroll and potential as an underdog.
I'm thinking this is a great opportunity for the Sox to ditch players and use the last half year's lack of performance as an "excuse" to do so. Would love for them to have a fresh start, even if it will take a few years of building.
<< <i>since I'm an Indians fan last nights game was fun to watch, can't remember ever seeing them light up Beckett like they did.....is he still hurt or something???? >>
I loved how ESPN had the sound of the Indians batters "teeing off " on sportscenter, I really thought that was funny. We lost tonight so we need to bounce back and get on a winning streak. I think Fenway is a beautiful ball park and would love to take in a series there.
