Day 153 - Happy Friday with Copes Golf Strokes.

instead of doing these scans, I really should BE golfing. Would someone post a comment sometime..it has been really quiet, not sure if anyone is still paying attention to this thread (or maybe too busy getting the set registry info in for awards!)

365 Days of Golf Cards - June 3rd- 2012 - Final scans of the 1923 Copes Golf set.

I am chaning to listing the day of the month as I am an idiot and cannot always count straight on the calendar. I hope you don't mind the change.

Here are the last of the scans from the current #1 set on the psa registry for this ultra tough set. Enjoy!

Still thinking about what to do tomorrow.

June 4th - 1931 Churchman Small - Percy Allis , Long Jim Barnes, Aubrey Boomer

This is a super difficult set, much tougher than the 1931 Churchman Large Prominent Golfers series. This is also the last dedicated golf set Churchman made for golf cards.

This has fabulous caricature cards and is a series of 50. As with many cigarette card sets, the end numbers (#1 and #50) are pretty tough to locate in high grade.

A lot of big names in this one, so I will start at the top!

My Anniversary today!. 14 wonderful years with my wife!

So, to celebrate here are three more cards from the 1931 Churchman set...I am sure she will be quite excited!

June 7, 1931 Churchman Prominent Golfers - Small - Collett, Compston, Cotton

3 more for a Thursday.. Card #7 on the 7th to start things off right

Glenna Collett - the first of many women golfers features in this set
    image

Archie Compston - appears to be thinking pretty hard about that 9 footer to save par
    image

    T.H. Cotton.

Even though it is a caricature drawing, doesn't that swing seem like it is silky smooth?

June 9 - Churchman Prominent Golfers - Diegel, Duncan, Von Elm

Leo Diegel - was known for his strange putting motion, which is trying to be captured in the drawing on this card
    image

George Duncan - the guy who made the five o'clock shadow cool!
    image

George Von Elm - guessing that Kevin Na would not like playing with him, George looks to be in a hurry.

Johnny Farrell - Love that Dapper Dan Hair Gel!

June 11 - Churchman Prominent Golfers Small - Walter Hagen - Rex Harltey - Art Havers

The Haig, only thing missing is a drink in his hand, I do love this card.

    image

Rex Hartley - Ol Rexie has a very unusual smirk on his face...would love to know the story behind it though...

    image

Arthur Havers - the mysterious hand of what I can only assume is his caddy handing him a golf club from the side of the card. Pretty ingenious drawing for a set that represents hand drawn representation of cards and not actual photos.

Alex Herd - looks like he does lots of waggles...remind you of a Roraring 20's Sergio?

    image

C.O. Hezlet - Shirt, Tie Sweater, and a smoke...Man he looks happy!

    image

Sir E.W.E Holderness - Boy he is really staring down that fairway bunker shot...he must really like it a lot!

Len Holland - Len is ready for "movember" in any given year with that stache'

    image

H.C. Jolly- One would think that with a name like Jolly, you would at least be smiling on your golf card!

    image

Harrison R. Johnston - The determined look of Harriston R. Johnston...of course you have to be determined to get that middle initial R in your name as well.

Always Fitting to have Francis Ouimet Featured on US Open Weekend. Here is a great card of him (and one I think could grade higher if I as a guy that cracked out holders )

    image

    T.P. Perkins

    June 18th, 1931 CHurchman Golfers Small - J.A Stout - J.H. Taylor - Cyril Tolley

J.A. Stout - has the choppy punch follow through going on this pitch and run shot.

    image

J.H Taylor - is he hitching up his britches like Arnie used to do all the time?
    image

    Cyril Tolley

June 24- Golfcardsforsale.com is live and busy!

I Opened for sales starting at 12 EST today, and sales are brisk. I apologize as this is a home built site and I have to have my website facilitator remove all items that are sold.

A busy night last night with most all of the more current World Golf Hall of Fame cards gone, the 1923 Copes set sold, and the 1930 Wills PSA 9 Walter Hagen

Also Williards Chocolates are all spoken for as well as a mix of other cards primarily Harry Vardon cards from the Singles list on the website.

Thanks to all who have purchased cards so far, or those who have stopped by to take a look.

My apologies for a couple of days off, I was running and playing in golf tournaments. My highlight yesterday was holing out on the 18th hole of a tournament from 165 out for a Eagle! Have not done that in a LONG time.

    Dave,

I haven't checked in much lately, but have you done all the SI for Kids cards they've issued over the years for both males/females? Or, any of the random insurance company cards issued over the years that would have a golfer here and there? Or, the golfers included as part of the "Sportscasters" sets from the late 70's?

(Those would be neat to learn about)

June 27- Now for something completely different.

thenavarro wanted something a little off the beaten path...so how about

    1992 Richie Fairway Favorites!

I have the only graded set in existence to my knowledge (ok I DID have it but it since is sold with my collection sales going on)

These are cigarette sized cards that are more modern, and the supply is starting to dry up. I will feature a few on here today and also a back design.

A number of cool things with this set

    - Artwork is nice and different
-Features a lot of players not found on a lot of other issues
-Has players from a variety of eras on the cards
    -Made in England

    #1 Tom Weiskopf

    image

    #2 Bobby Locke

Google or Wikipedia this guy and see how good he really was!

    image

#3 Sir Nick Faldo - Has Nick ever looked happier! - and remember this is in the midst of his height of popularity.

Here is also representative back of one of the cards

July, 21 - sorry I have been away!

Just got done playing in a three day member guest tournament with one of my longtime friends. We won the horse-race during the practice round, I won an Amazon Kindle Fire on the raffle last night, we won a couple of skins and one flag prize, and today we finished 3rd in our flight for the tournament and T5 in the calcutta. I am off to the banquet shortly so will post more cards tomorrow.
