This is incredible!!! I love that card. Thanks for sharing, Dave. >>
What's a ballpark price for this card? I don't know anything about it and had the 1926 spalding card on my "to buy" checklist. I didnt know he had a card from 1925. I would like to add it but don't really need another white whale.
I don't have a clue on value. This is the one and only time I have seen this card and I have never seen another one for sale or otherwise in all my years of collecting golf cards.
I am just happy to get it authenticated by PSA, as I mentioned it appears to be in an album at one time so with a little back glue damage I was hoping psa 3 at best but still happy, it looks more like a psa 5-6 when you see it in person from just the front
Dave Johnson- Big Red Country-Nebraska Collector of Vintage Golf cards! Let me know what you might have.
#11 - Allan Daily - Golf Pitch and Run Shot - Love the rain slicker look here again, but even more I love the leather golf glove that makes it looked like he just hopped out of his Aston Martin and kept on one of his driving gloves!
#12 - W.H. Davies - Brassie shot from Hanging lie - Looks like a severe downslope to me!
#13 - C.S. Denny - Bunker Shot - that bunker looks more like Arizona waste area hardpan rock than a bunker...or perhaps the setting was a nice beach lie at some place such as Machrihanish
#14 - George Duncan - Golf Spoon Shot - Vest check, tie, check, dress shirt...check, patterned plus fours...check...stylish look, check - dapper dan hair gel....check.
#15 - Syd Easterbrook - Golf Approach Shot - Have to love that Players Cigarette in his mouth! Heaven forbid he is smoking some of the competition!
Dave Johnson- Big Red Country-Nebraska Collector of Vintage Golf cards! Let me know what you might have.
#16 - Bert Gadd #2 Iron Full shot. Rolled up sleeves...must have been hot in England the day of the photo shoot.
#17 - Bert Hodson - Spon Shot. Nice head on angle with the active left foot coming off of the ground. Very Nicklausesque
#18 Sam King - No. 6 Iron Chip shot. The chip shot with anything but a wedge is a forgotten art....Of course I stlll often chip with a 7 or 8 iron...but I am a Picasso around the greens....
#19 - A.J. Lacey - No. 3 Iron Shot....man he is really gritting his teeth putting everything into the ultra forigiving vintage blade 3 iron.
#20 - Abe Mitchell - Putting. Remember he is the guy on top of the Ryder Cup trophy...Do you think you would get funny looks here in the States playing in all of that clothing?
Dave Johnson- Big Red Country-Nebraska Collector of Vintage Golf cards! Let me know what you might have.
#21 - A.H. Paghdam - Drive - Notce the classic reverse C motion that was so popular with so many golfers for such a long time in the follow through.
#22 - Dai Rees - Stymie. One of my favorite old school rules of golf that has been done away with. Once upon a time you did not have to mark your ball ...so if your ball on the green was between the opponents ball and the hole, well...it was too bad for them.
#23 - W.T. Twine - Brassie Shot - Looks like he is playing in a suede jacket! That is the biggest lateral move I have seen...this swaying motion would be viewed as not great form in this day
#24 - C.A. Whitcombe - No 1 Iron Full shot - I would hate to be the guy trying to hit a one iron out of that deep rough lie...obviously this guy is a professional.
#25 - R.A. Whitcombe - Brassie Shot up Hill. - Sharp outfit, sharp hat, sharp tie, sharp hat - really really sharp shoes!
Dave Johnson- Big Red Country-Nebraska Collector of Vintage Golf cards! Let me know what you might have.
Love the comment about trying to hit a 1 iron out of that rough lie - and in jacket too - without your hat falling off. - You also forgot to mention leather grips as well!!!
Once upon a time I had the first ever set of these graded on the registry...of course I sold it for a killing.
Then a few months back I got the itch again to own these cards...why? they are the first cards that have shirt swatches that were ever made of any golfers and secondly, they were only inserted one per case (sometimes 2 per case) so they were not exactly easy pulls to say the least. I still can't believe that cards inserted one per case can be had so inexpensively.
Still, I am working on this set and would ideally like to have em all in PSA 8 or higher. So, it is a work in progress. When you read through this if you have any that I need or would be an upgrade for me, let me know..if interested in some sort of trade/purchase.
I will start off with a few today to get the ball rolling so to speak.
Dave Johnson- Big Red Country-Nebraska Collector of Vintage Golf cards! Let me know what you might have.
Four more to showcase today..Hope Tiger is ok with his sudden exit today.
Speaking of Tiger...I need the white shirt version as well as the red shirt version of his Tour Threads Card in PSA 8 or better if anyone has one for sale.....
Dave Johnson- Big Red Country-Nebraska Collector of Vintage Golf cards! Let me know what you might have.
Sorry not as much dialogue with these cards. It is pretty self explanatory. I do love this set and am looking forward to what might be available in the golf sets due to come out this year in terms of shirt cards.
Dave Johnson- Big Red Country-Nebraska Collector of Vintage Golf cards! Let me know what you might have.
Yeah, part of why I love this set so much is that clean green and white design, with the full action pose and the shirt...just looks nice in my opinion.

Day 81 - March Madness Giveaway Contest See PG 12 of post & 1930 J.A Pattereiouex Golfers - Bobby Jons Master Preview!
Hey all - reminder to enter the March Madness giveaway contest - see page 12 post for details on day 79. Also, the contest will close at 3 pm on Thursday.
I am going to start into the 1930 J.A. Pattreiouex Set. This set features just 4 golfers, but I do have a complete PSA Graded set. It features 50 different sporting celebrities of the day in a variety of sports. Wresting, boxing, swimming, football, track and field, skating, racing, just about anything you can think of.
The design is unique as it has a action type of photo and then a smaller close up sort of inset of the person feature on the card.
While there is only 4 golfers in the set, it is a very popular Bobby Jones card, and frankly I think it is one of the more under-rated sets out there as a whole from the British Tobacco Card era. This set is moderately priced, tough to find in high condition, and relatively rare. You don't see complete sets on overseas auctions come up very often, and you might find one or two on ebay with a buy it now, but in my years of collecting it is one of the harder complete sets to track down of this time frame.
This has always been one of my favorite sets as the design work is much different than that of a lot of other sets. The card stock is also a bit thicker, and a little funky in texture. The cards are often found with rough cut edges.
Here is the first of 4 golfers in the set....and with a preview into getting ready for the Masters in just two weeks...Here is Robert Tyre Jones - Card #38.
Dave Johnson- Big Red Country-Nebraska Collector of Vintage Golf cards! Let me know what you might have.
Day 82 - Day 2 of 4 1930 J.A Pattereiouex Golfers - Joyce Wethered
An early offering of a lady golfer. This is Miss Joyce Wethered from the 1930 Pattreiouex set. Card #40 in the set. Love the golfers in the background and I got to get me one of those bucket hats for the wife!

Fantastic cards, Dave. I'm a huge fan of this set. After chasing after the Gene Tunney card in the set for my registry, I pretty much fell in love with the rest of the cards. You Bobby Jones PSA 7, is by far the nicest I've seen. Is that a Pop 1?
Day 83 - 1930 Pattreiouex Celebrities in Sport - How about Ms Cecil Leitch!
Another grear card of this female sensation of the era. And I do believe that is Roger depicted on the card...so stay tuned tomorrow to catch of glimpse of his card from this set.
Dave Johnson- Big Red Country-Nebraska Collector of Vintage Golf cards! Let me know what you might have.
Day 84- 1930 Pattreiouex Celebrities in Sport - Mr Roger Wethered.
The last of the Golf cards from this set. It is Mr Roger Wethered. If you also want to see scans of the entire set, I am the only person with a complete set on the registry at this time and have all of the scans for all of the cards you can find here.
Here is another set I am working on, it has some great color depictions of golf courses from 1924. Most show a landscape type of drawing and most have some golf subjects in them as well.
These cards were produced by W.D. & H.O. Wills in 1924 in a 25 card series entitled "Golfing"
