I am not sure if I like this better than his 71 opc, but regardless it is a cool rookie postcard.

Great post. I just got back into the hobby this year after leaving the mid 90's. I had to add this to my collection - new to uploading pics. It's a PSA 8 79-80 OPC pack with a rookie on the back.....

Been a great year of adding vintage wax boxes to my collections as well. My 84-85 OPC came yesterday :-) image

'Tis the season to buy vintage Habs cards. My Doug Harvey collection is filling out nicely. 52 parkies are very underrated in my opinion.

    Great cards, all!

I wonder how caribou's Henri Richard graded out....?

This is my latest pickup, somewhat of a dream card for me in that I never really expected to find one that fit the bill (affordable low grade, centered, etc.)....

That is a great Plante......I was watching the PWCC auction on it and thought it was an pretty nice 4.

Thanks, duckus, I thought the same thing. Nice corners, great centering, a little scuffing on the right edge I can deal with, and no mention of wrinkles, etc. I was surprised it went for so low. I was outbid on a PSA 6 back in August of last year and, considering the savings, I'm very glad I was outbid on the PSA 6!

Well I have been mainly purchasing hockey for the last year now, since I started back collecting, and I have been waiting by the door for this one. Got it today....

    image

I had really planned on purchasing a PSA 7 or 8 Gretzky OPC RC or a decent Howe RC before I purchased this, but the price was right and I have been watching a ton of Pens games with my NHL Package. His talent is unreal, the injury didn't slow him down any, the price was great, and being limited to 999 and autographed... I am super Stoked I pulled the Trigger. I really think that he is the most talented player in all of Hockey, well along with Pavel Datsuyk at least.

That Messier RC is better looking than the two 8's I own. Stunner for a 7!
  • Options
I bought it as a Best Offer so you are probably thinking of another card. Paid a little to much but thought it was a pretty good looking 4. I've stared at it for hours and can't find any surface issues.

Here is a Bathgate 4 that is much uglier:

I was pretty disappointed in that grade, it's got to be the best 7 going. I don't sell cards so am not too worried that it's under graded, it looks great in my collection.

Glad to see this thread back, a few of my new additions. The Yzerman I subbed raw, others were through Ebay. Fuhr is a upgrade to a raw I subbed that graded 7.

Mullen top / Francis back is killer. Two hall of fame rookies in a pretty rare cello format is a great score.

Doesn't fit in any of my sets, but I still find it cool! Only one graded!

Mario Lemieux on the back of the 85 opc pack, and Mike Bossy on the back of a graded 78 opc pack.

    image[/URL]

I'm really glad to get this rack because all three western Canadian teams are represented on the fronts, with a perfectly centered Gretzky to boot.

A few highlights from my recent sub. I finally landed a PSA 9 Lemieux box bottom rookie. Perseverance pays off!

    image

This Howe completes my set in all PSA 8's or higher. Very satisfying to sub it myself.

I'm collecting HOF RC's in low/mid grade. This card is interesting - Durnan won 6 Vezina's in 7 years and only has this one card from his playing days. There are only 25 or so graded and yet the card has very little value which is strange considering he played for the Habs, is in the HOF and won the vez 6 times:

    image

Vezina played 15 years for the Habs. Plante played 11 years for the Habs. Plante also played at a time where most households began watching TV a lot.

Durnan and Hainsworth played 7 years for the Habs (before the TV era).

Vezina is the big name because of his longevity, success, and being the 1st All-Star Goalie the Habs ever had. He also has a trophy named after him.

Plante is #1 in many hearts because of the mask invention, and that many fans actually got to see the guy play ever week/weekend on TV.

Durnan and Hainsworth just didn't get the exposure that Plante received.

Still have nightmares to this day about the trade from Montreal to Chicago image

That trade was awful. I loved Denis Savard in his prime, but even then you wouldn't trade Chelios for him.

Great cards, guys. I like the Olympics card. Pretty cool.

A few years back, 09-10, I was much more into hockey. Times change, financial requirements change. Only concentrating on Chelios and Stevens these days image

Just got this one in today, always love this card and this player. Dino was a mean little bugger:

Just pulled the trigger on my biggest buy yet and first pre-war card. Will post when it arrives.

Here is a Horton that came in the mail last week to keep this thread alive. For those of you that haven't been to Canada, Tim Horton's is a coffee shop that is one of if not the strongest brand in Canada. They serve more breakfasts than McDonalds!

That's a nice Dino. Another player I liked, Ciccarelli. I can remember him being on the old ABC Superstars show back in the early 80's.
Between Chelios, Stevens and Dino we've cornered the market of "Hated players on the ice" for this thread
    image

Edit to add: Like that Horton also.

I'm a huge Chelios and Stevens fan as well, my two favourite d-men of the generation. I've been trying to find a cheli 9 for the past little while but with the HOF induction will probably wait.

Come on guys, what about my man Kenny Linseman?????? Guys on the other teams loved him.

I'd also like to add that the Dino and Horton look great. Congrats on the pickups guys!!!!!!!!

This came in the mail today. Kind of random purchase, I use to buy these at the local Red Rooster when I grew up in Edmonton. Just a fun buy.

Thanks. Congrats on your gem Red-Rooster Gretzky. In addition to the postcard and sportscaster, have you given thought to try and pick up a 1981 Red Rooster long-hair Gretzky?

I like the Gretzky cards and postcards and also the box bottoms.

I just picked this up (Parent and Lindbergh are my favorites with Gretzky). It seems too bad in that it appears with the Liptons, unless you are submitting a panel, you would need to sacrifice one of the two cards to get a number grade due to the common border. I thought this was pretty nice, though and the price was right.

Loving the image in that Parent card.
  • Options
This Bouchard just arrived in the mail. The colour on it is great:

    image

That Parent looks like he should be carrying a axe chasing kids at a campground by the lake.

On the question of the long hair Red Rooster. Yes on the look out for one in high grade. Suprisingly there are quite a few sheets of the card available.

I just popped these two last week! These are the first two 10s for this card. SI for Kids can be tough, but it looks like I'm getting the hang of separating them! image
