  • Thanks! I usually prefer centered cards but this one looked so clean and the t/b didn't bug me as much. Was hard to valuate the card though so not sure how I did on price.

<< <i>I just popped these two last week! These are the first two 10s for this card. SI for Kids can be tough, but it looks like I'm getting the hang of separating them! image >>

Nice work! Any tips on your methods for separating perforated cards would be appreciated as it looks like you've got it down to what PSA is looking for.
  • Here is another HOF rookie to bring this to the top:

Also, if you haven't seen Larry fight, here is a longish video of a good ole line brawl where Larry slaps around Dave Schultz and then drinks a fans beer over the glass:

Ol' Big Bird definitely had the reach advantage over the Hammer with those longer arms.
  • Schultz lost his balance when he tried to grab onto Robinson.
Robinson did not hit him good until Schultz fell down to the ice after losing his balance.
I hate Dave Schultz, but Robinson just got lucky that Schultz lost his balance here.
Plus, Larry wasn't the type of guy who looked for trouble, but he never backed down either.
  • Just pulled this one out of a bubble mailer. One more for the HOF rookie set - only 300 to go lol!

Kind of surprised how cheap this card was, it's a pop 10 with only 2 higher and it's his first PSA recognized card:

  • Wow that Robinson is a 7? Looks great.

    Royal Blue Scott

Slow on the Hockey cards the last few weeks. Did pick this up for a future Registry set, whenever PSA decides to add Stevens to the Registry. 12-14 weeks and counting now...

VLADISLAV ALEKSANDROVICH TRETIAK-1999 UPPER DECK RETRO/1979 PANINI STICKER

Strange, why would that set not recognize the 1974 sticker?

The RC HOF registry set has a pretty strange composite, for some cards the accept both Topps/opc, for others just the OPC. For some of the newer class they only recognize UD and smaller run sets like Bowman/Topps Tiffany aren't included but the UD version of which there are 10M cards is in the composite.

The 1979 Panini Sticker Hockey Set also has the first images of HOF'ers Peter Stastny and Slava Fetisov (they spelled out his full name of Viacheslav Fetisov in the sticker). very cool 70's fonts on the back of these stickers, too! They really aren't expensive at all. If you would like and need a Fetisov for your HOF rookie set, I have a few raw and would be happy to mail one to you. Just PM me.

    Hey guys,

There's a lot more Tretjak to be had for rookies. I have a lot of them subbed at PSA and will pop soon. The 1979 isn't even close to earliest though. Here is a selection of his cards that I recently sub'd to PSA along with a large order of lots of other Euro hockey cards:

I imagine as more pop, PSA will update the composite to include some of the earlier issues. Can you comment on how rare the 70-71 card is?
  • miwlvrnmiwlvrn Posts: 4,262 ✭✭✭✭✭
No idea at all as far as quantity printed, but that one was not easy to find. Mine will most likely get a Poor 1 grade but I kind of felt like it fell into the category of "lousy shape but send it in for grading anyway since condition is nearly irrelevant" until/unless others start to surface out of dark basements in Finland some day. The scarcity should drive it well enough to make it worth it, since I don't think most people will be able to find another one.
  • Please post scans when you get them back.

Will do. Wish I knew how long it would be.
  • Bump it up. Anyone pick up cards from that last PWCC auction? There was a nice PSA 7 Gretz, and that Stastny 10 went for a good number. I grabbed the Potvin and will post pics when it gets here.

Let's see some more hockey cards.

Hadn't mentioned before, but they weren't all subbed in the same order, though they were all sent in with various orders and will pop and different times. I have one of them back now, a 1971. Not a big hit since it is a 6 and there are 4 higher (three 7's, one 8), but still a fun one to have.

There are a few players that appeared in Swedish sets before their accepted North American Rookie Card. Kharlamov, Salming, Dryden, Larionov, Tretiak for certain.

When the HOF rookie registry set was started I do not think PSA had graded any Swedish stickers so they were not the card listed.

The Tretiak above is his first solo card in a Swedish Sticker set.

Jari Kurri is supposedly in the 1978-79 Finnish SM-Liga set. I've never seen one, nor know what it looks like, but have been searching.

I don't know why they would do the HOF rookie registry based on what was presently graded at the time, since the existence of the cards was well documented in guides and they should have assumed that those cards would eventually be submitted to them for grading.

Yup, that is one of the Tretjak cards from 1970. He had 4 different issues from Sweden in 1970, and one from Finland.

The 3 Swedish Ken Drydens from 1970 are pretty easy to find.

Salming's NHL RC was 1974. My pending orders at PSA have a large amount of Swedish & Finnish cards issued Pre-RC, including the following cards as well:

1971-72 Williams Forlags - Swedish Hockey Stickers 100 Borje Salming
1972-73 Finnish Hellas MM - Jenkki 42 Borje Salming
1972-73 Williams Forlags - Swedish Hockey Stickers 7 Borje Salming
1974-75 Williams Forlags - Swedish Hockey Stickers 314 Borje Salming
1981-82 Swedish Semic Hockey - VM Stickers 82 Glenn Anderson
1981-82 Swedish Semic Hockey - VM Stickers 104 Mike Eruzione
1981-82 Swedish Semic Hockey - VM Stickers 104 Mike Eruzione
1989-90 Swedish Semic - Elitserien Stickers 72 Mats Sundin
1989-90 Swedish Semic - Elitserien Stickers 247 Nicklas Lidstrom
1989-90 Swedish Semic World Championship Stickers 87 Vjatjeslav Fetisov
1989-90 Swedish Semic World Championship Stickers 90 Igor Larionov
1989-90 Swedish Semic World Championship Stickers 96 Sergei Makarov
1989-90 Swedish Semic World Championship Stickers 178 Dominik Hasek
1990-91 Swedish Semic - Elitserien Stickers 152 Nicklas Lidstrom

The 80's and 90's issues are surprisingly hard to find considering how relatively modern they are.

Nice list of cards! Good luck with the grades.

The toughest "Rookie" for me to find was the Salming. I have not seen too many come up for sale. The Kharlamov below is his tougher RC.

    image

    image

These as mentioned are fairly easy to find - Dryden and Kharlamov RC's.

    image

I thought this card was the Larionov RC - (1984 Russian team set) but there is a 1983 Swedish sticker of Larionov which is very difficult to find.

Nice 1970 Salming! That one is a real tough one to come up with.

Had my April order finally pop last night, and the 1972-73 Finnish Hellas MM - Jenkki 79 Vladislav Tretjak got an N9. Not sure why as it shouldn't be too oddball an issue. Might consider going the route of having it slabbed by one of the other companies and then resubbing to PSA for crossover, which has worked for me on other N9's in the past. I prefer PSA grading but BVG does holder some euro/foreign issues that PSA doesn't sometimes.

I'll post a couple other scans from the order though when it arrives.

WOW, pop 2 no 10's! That's unreal, whomever you bought that off left thousands of dollars on the table. I couldn't find any PSA 9 sales but this must be a 10K plus card??

The only sale I've seen was when BMW sold a 9 for $12,500 a couple of years ago. It will anchor my Henri Richard basic set, and it is such a great feeling to have it.

I met Henri Richard this spring at the Forum during a Habs/Pens game. He was the epitome of class.

Love all those old stickers. Very underrated but also very scarce. miwlvrn, what are your plans with your '81 Eruzione stickers once you get them back?

I finally procured this card after years of looking. His last card. Not a high pop card by any means and I get the feeling most don't let go of this one once they have it.

Nice Howe. Wish mine were in that good of shape. As for the Eruzione cards (well, technically stickers), I'll probably keep one and sell one. Haven't decided yet if I want to keep the higher grade one or sell whichever one is higher in order to cover the cost of keeping the other one. I'll let you know the grades when they pop in case you might have some interest.

Way to go on that Richard 9! I've drooled over that card ever since you first posted it here. Getting back to the pre RCs and Russian RCs, I was on a real roll picking them up a few years back. The '83 Larionov continues to elude me, but here are a few I've picked up. All but the Kharlamov 8 were self subs:

"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Yes. I also have the 1989 card in a sub that should pop soon.

I own the 1991 & 1989 Hasek Swedish cards too. I do not believe there was a 1990 issued though I could be wrong. My 1991 Hasek popped a PSA 4. The 1989 is in the sub with the '89 Lidstrom. I'm content with the 6 on the Lidstrom and 4 on the Hasek since they are just too hard to find in any condition. Both are pop 1 w/ none higher or lower. Pretty amazing someone managed to find a 1989 Hasek that graded a PSA NM-MT 8. Mine won't be that high at all, but it will probably be the 2nd highest on the report for a very long time.

If it's any consolation, I don't think you missed a few. This 1990 one is probably the only one that has been up there in years. I bought my 1989 not off an ebay auction but from a contact I have in Sweden who picked it up at a show there for me, same as some other odd cards I have.
