Nice cards - particularly like the 59 Richard. Why do PSA and Beckett recognize the 75-76 Mark Howe card as his rookie. Why is it not 1974-75 OPC WHA card #1 the Howes?

Good question, I agree it should be The Howes card. Love that card, it's reflects a real interesting period in hockey.
I think that the 74 OPC WHA Howe family card is considered in the same vein as league leader or special interest cards (think Fleer baseball subsets in the 80's). It isn't as clear cut, though, since OPC wasn't smart enough to have additional stand alone cards for each of the Howe's in the 74 set. I hadn't really ever thought that Mark Howe's rookie could be this card, but perhaps over time it will be considered as such.
And by the way, how on earth was Gordie Howe not the captain of the 1974 Houston Aeros? Was Dit Clapper or Howie Morenz on that team???

Interesting question about the Mark Howe rookie.
The 74-75 card is titled "The Howes" I believe, with the emphasis on the Howe family. Just as the 1954 Jacques Plante In Action cards (Mr. Zero, etc) are focused on something other then Jacques.
Whereas the 1973 Mike Schmidt rookie (tri-players like the Howes) is labeled as "Rookie 3rd Basemen"
I believe if the 74-75 WHA Howe card was labeled "Howe Senior and Rooks", then perhaps it would be recognized as Mark and Marty's rookie card. The title of the card has historically had some effect on the rookie denomination.

The 1954 In Action cards w/ Plante (#'s 97, 98, 99) are a great comparison (though I disagree w/ Parkhurst on #97 since Mr. Zero is Frank Brimsek), as is the Schmidt example as you present it.
Well, it wasn't cheap, but I finally managed to find myself a 1978 Finnish SM-Liiga Jari Kurri. From my perspective, definitely one of the toughest European issue hockey cards out there. I'll get some scans after it arrives.

Congrats on the pickup. I hope I am not stealing your thunder, the card is hard enough to obtain, but this unopened sheet would be a white whale to say the least (pics of front & back; Kurri on bottom right, not mine but it is floating around the world somewhere):

Thanks. It looks better in hand than on the scans posted. I'm happy and surprised to see such great centering and sharp corners on a European 70's hand-cut issue. It is in Newport Beach now but I'll be interested to see their take on it. I'm really hoping they don't N9 me.
First time in 8 years of a saved search that i've seen one on ebay. interesting that the back is different than the scans posted in this thread so there was different, perhaps random placements on the sheet. tape and all!: 1978 Kurri

Went for $100 in fair/poor condition. Makes me thinks miwlvrn got a steal ;-)
Been a while and I have been on a tear. I have kind of been sitting on a few of these but I went "Current" crazy and happy I did. I picked up most of these for well below what I think they should have went for, but I am just a crazy hockey nut right now. My next purchase WILL be a Gretzky OPC RC though, how long it takes to pull the trigger on one is the question. I was kinda bummed when I got the Perry cause I didn't see the smear, but it's not too bad. I love that set and have the Getzlaf, Richards, Carter, and Suter RC's on the way. All ungraded cards will be going to PSA soon along with the BGS cards into PSA holders when I get my "Thick Cards" re-holdered with the new PSA holders. Sorry for the Huge Scans and dust. Getting a new scanner soon hopefully.

Just got this one back from PSA. It's actually the Tembec version. I'm happy with the grade, disappointed that PSA didn't make the Tembec distinction on the label. Anyone else ever attempt to grade one of the 89/90 OPC Tembecs with PSA?
The "Tembec" version was printed on a different card stock than standard. The back is whiter and the front seems to have more vivid color. From what I've read, around 100 copies were produced for 132 of the cards (only 1 sheet). I think of it as being similar to the 1990 Donruss Aqueous set.

Love this card- very clean design
I had a hard time finding a copy of this card that was in focus...finally got one to my liking.
I really liked the Denis Potvin rookie that was posted earlier. Centering on that card is so difficult.
