I am trying not to buy PSA 10's of any hockey before 1989 but sometimes I can't resist.

    image

And I really paid through the nose for this Bucyk but my 500 goal set and 1000 point set were missing this...

  • Hey all,

    Great cards everyone.

I am working on a Mario Lemieux basic and collectors set and was wondering if any of you hockey fans could help me plug some holes with cards that I don't have yet. I am in first place so far on the registry and any help would be awesome. Set is listed under Mike's Lemieux basic set. If you have anything I need and are willing to part with it let me know a price.

    Thanks in advance.
  • Hey Johnny

    I have:

    0417901440 144 1990 UPPER DECK MARIO LEMIEUX
    4131911940 194 1991 PRO SET MARIO LEMIEUX

They seem to be in decent shape, let me know if you want them.

For some reason I love the insert cards from the 80's more than actual set designs. Subbed this card after getting it from a box last year.

  • I'm new to these boards, but this will be one of my favorite threads. You guys have some awesome cards.

    John
  • Just picked up the bottom card. It's the rarer "printing variation" of this card. The top pic is the more common picture. I've only seen less then a handful, or two, of
the bottom one. Picked up the bottom one in PSA 8 last week. If you don't see the printing variation, just look at his face.

  • I bought 3 packs of SP Authentic last night, and ended up pulling this beast. This is easily the best card I have ever pulled from a pack, sorry for the glare on the scan.

My pickings have been slim. Hate buying already graded cos the fun and challenge is to get them on my own.
Picked up some nice raw for grading this past month. I really need to clean my scanner; too much dust.
Hoping to hit a 10 on one of the Shannys. I've been on a roll with Iginla lately. If a Lecavalier can go over $100 on ebay cos of the black borders,
I hope mine hits. Can't complain for the $1 spent.

Very sharp Shanahans. I remember when that card rivaled the Hull for most expensive card in the set.
  • Been trying to grab this card for awhile.

    image
  • Nice Mikita rookie. Card is notorious for printing marks, but yours looks rather nice.
  • Picked this up last week off eBay for way cheaper than I thought possible image love these "Pre Rookies"

Me too!!! Just picked these up yesterday. If 4SC answered emails, they could have sold these to me 4 months ago instead of the need to wait, and wait, and wait while they drop, drop, drop the price every 30 days. Finally got to the level I would have offered. No 10's of these two cards exist. They are tough with the red borders and the shrinkwrapping on the original sets damage a lot of corners and edges too. Lemieux is 1/9 and Yzerman 1/6.

I've been wanting to get a high grade example of this card autographed for a long time. I'm a huge Modano fan. t's not easy finding the '90 Kraft's in high grade. My 13 year old son sent this one out in the mail for me without my knowledge and gave it to me today!! I think this one will end up in a red flip!

Great pick-ups, guys. I haven't posted on here for a couple of months so here are a few of my recent additions:

A card I really wanted to be graded a 9...

An upgrade to my basic Beliveau set. I'm only pouncing on upgrades when I am 100% sold on their superiority to my existing card.

And this is something I had to have.

Just because Artist_Lost has moved on to comics it doesn't mean this thread should die! Here are a few cards I recently picked up:

A beauty 6 for my 1000 point club and 500 goal club. I'm going to upgrade this to an 8 at some point:

A very tough 9 on my second favorite Orr card:

    Hi Mathew,

After my cards pop from the October submission, I will only need the Bobby Hull to complete my 1000 point set. Why did Bobby Hull have to be such a conceited jerk? Makes it hard to spend money buying his likeness.
  • Man I want a Howe Rookie! One day...one day.....
  • Frozen. Not sure what you are talking about. I met Bobby Hull and he was one of the nicest pros you will ever meet to fans. Private life in Winnipeg with his wife is another topic, but the times I met him was amazing always there to sign an auto and alwyas great to kids which is not what you see all the time today.
  • I want to pick your guys brains for a bit. I want to own a Howe RC and a Gretzky RC, but can't decide which to buy first. I am hoping to make a purchase sometime around the First of the year and wan't some info from they guys I consider Pros image. The Gretzky I would like to be OPC and in an 8. The Howe would probably by 3-5 range. What am I looking at paying for those and which should I try to purchase first. I was thinking the Howe RC just due to how old the card is and his age is getting up there. Also where is the best place to purchase one of those, eBay or auction or private? Thanks for the help. I am currently getting back into the hobby this last year and trying to build that "Dream" Collection I wanted as a kid and Hockey is my main love!

You can't really go wrong with either of those cards. With the Gretzky, there are all sorts of flaws associated with 8's, even more than most sets, so find the issue you hate the most and stay away from it.

Beautiful pickup of a tough, tough card. Where did you get it?
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I picked up the card at the Toronto expo. There is a lot of junk at the Expo, ranging from smoked meat (I'm serious) to tables full of vg-ex cards. But there are about 10-15 tables that make your jaw drop.

So you passed on the smoked meat? Seriously that is a beautiful Richard. Im surprised cards like that still exist raw. Great pick up.
