  • That is incredibly sick.

Do you collect anything else? I feel like I'd enjoy seeing pretty much anything else you have if that card is in your orbit.

Trust me, I have saved for my collection and have been piecing it for many years. I cannot buy whatever I want so I am extremely proud to have what I have in high grade. I am doing this long term so my collection grows very slowly. Quality over quantity always. Here are a few more just for fun.

Thanks guys. The card was just half of what I paid just last year, but a high grade rookie card like his can just take off and not slow down for a long time. It was pretty much like just get it now or pay a lot more later. My holy grail would be the 1966 Topps Test Bobby Orr in the same grade. Would have to save for a very long time for that one, but would be worth every penny. Maybe by the time one pops up I'll have enough. His Test card in high grade is extremely rare.

WOW! That Orr PSA 8 rookie is beautiful. Congratulations on that pick-up. I've been trying to acquire a PSA 8 Orr rookie for a long, long time. I just haven't been able to have everything fall in place for me to find the right one yet. Once I get a Plante PSA 8 and Orr PSA 8 rookie I will be one satisfied collector.

Wow, incredible stuff, thanks for sharing. Those four Orr/Clancy/Vezina/Morenz, would all be nice to own even in PSA 1, let alone the high grades.

Picked this up recently. Looking forward to getting it cased by PSA. Any thought how it'll grade?

I definitely remember reading about that in a thread a while back, quite possible this one, but I think it was some other generous guy on here who sent you the card.

Very nice Dryden rookie and Gretzky rookie! Both are very nice examples for their grades.

I'd say the Gretzky rookie would bump if it didn't have any snow on the surface. It is beautiful and worth the shot though. Good luck!

Great looking Wayner, great centering. I'm not sure it would bump, top L corner and snow may hold it back but a better looking card than most 8s.

Nice card, Red is from my hometown Regina. Almost 1000 games in the NHL and 800 wins in college should = hockey HOF.

I collect rookies from all sports. I don't watch a ton of hockey but there are a few cards that I felt like I absolutely need to add to my collection.. Such as gretzky, Lemieux, Howie, Orr and crosby ect... I haven't got any of them yet because they ain't cheap. There are some really awsome cards in this thread... Here is my pick up. I wanted to have some sort of representation for the 1980 USA team... So I picked up this. I've only seen it for sale one other time.

Just bought this 93/94 Kamloops Blazers set with this Ignlia as it totally fits my first-card focus. Fingers crossed that it arrives with the sharp condition and centering that it appears to have. I'm thinking to leave the Iginla as-is in tact and get the whole panel graded instead of separating it. FWIW, Mark Recchi & Scott Niedermayer have their first cards in a Kamloops Blazers team sets. Recchi in 86-87 and Niedermayer in 89-90.

Nice set. I was watching that one, but couldn't get myself to equate its value to the asking price for my personal collection. The Iginla and Doan cards are really cool though.

I have both a 1986 Kamloops Recchi and a 1987 Kamloops Recchi. I'll try to get those posted sometime here.

Edit to add, in case you're wondering about how to tell the difference between them since there are no years or card numbers printed on them, the 1987's look a lot like your 1993 set, w/ dark background and players wearing pants & socks. The 1986 Recchi has a lit background and he's in Cooperalls.

I agree seller was asking high, and it was on my watch list for a while too hoping for a drop, but you don't see this set often and it wasn't astronomical for a future HOF'er. The centering is what made me finally pull the trigger and accept paying a little high. None graded to-date so who knows how many (or few) are around.
  • miwlvrnmiwlvrn Posts: 4,262 ✭✭✭✭✭

Don't overlook the Doan card as well. The two of those together for that price is what made it worth considering to me.

That's true. His first card as well.

Here's my 86-87 Recchi. Always been scratching my head with the grade. Sharp corners and centered. This card usually is oc too so i was so let down with the grade. I know perf. is tough. Maybe i'll have it reviewed someday.

Well, I went and sold my Tretjak master set, entire thing to one person (not sure he's on the boards though), plus 6 items that don't qualify for the master set due to year of issuance. I had 100% of it although one item was not graded due to a possibly re-colored corner, even though I'm not necessarily convinced that was the right call by the grader. I know of some other cards that exist and would qualify if/when they are graded & also requested to be added to the composition, but for now, the scans here show you all the items on the list as it is today. I was a bit sad to see it go, but it frees up funds for some other collection pursuits now too. I had a great time assembling it as you really need to track down each of these items from European sellers and lots of them are tough finds. Maybe I'll end up reconstructing it some day. In case anyone is interested, I'm posting scans of each item before they're packed up and shipped out. The toughest one is the 1971 Finnish Williams - Jaakiekko 71-72 #17, which is a mech error mistakenly labeled as Swedish Williams Forlags. I sent this one in for mech error correction, and they fixed the spec but did not bother to actually open the case up and fix the label to match the spec. This happens fairly frequently, so reminder to all of you who send cards in for mech error orders: check their work when you get your items back as they may have skipped the last step. Anyway, here you go:

Love the Hasek XRC and the Tretiak set. I'm still looking for an '83 Semic Larionov if anyone has one.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

    Those Tretiaks r amazing.

Just saw a rerun of the 80 Olympics with interviews of all the major Russian players

Inc Tretiak who said it was his duty to quietly say nothing when he was pulled.

Lucky for us....and the rest is history.

I personally have never been an auto collector for a few reasons that I refuse to cite as I don't feel its appropriate to say negative things about what other people like to collect and treasure, but given that I collect first-cards, and that includes a good amount of Quebec pee-wee tournament cards, I made an exception as I thought this 1980 Quebec Pee Wee tournament piece of history of Joe Juneau items was super cool and the provenance looks right even though the auto looks nothing like his auto when he was in the NHL. It has the right birthdate, comes with signature cards of the nobodys, comes from Quebec seller and he would have been 12 in the 1980 tournament which is correct. It looks like a signature of a 12 year-old:

The Joe Juneau Quebec Pee Wee items above arrived and I noticed something: These cards have the signature of the player but also the then home address and signature of the parent as well, I noticed there is also a Jacquelin Juneau signature card (Is Jacquelin a female name?) with the same home address and same parent signature. If it was me, I'd think Joe or his sibling would want these as a keepsake. Something to pass on to grandchildren, etc. I have a friend who currently gives everything to shuttle his kids around to hockey tournaments all over the USA week in and out. A huge time and economic commitment and show of true love for his children. I'm sentimental and would cherish something that links my parents love like that, myself and my sibling together linked to the sport we played. It appears Joe is up by the arctic circle now, and have no clue how I could get in touch with him, but I'd like to offer to send this item to him if he would like it as reading about him really makes you see what a great person and role model he is. Rocket-science degree from RPI pre-pro to doing great charitable work up by the arctic circle post-career. Looks like a winner at life to me. If anyone has suggestions how to get in touch with him, please let me know.
