It could just be that someone else did the research and got the card approved for grading after the card was initially denied. That happened to me with 65 lampo psa didn't grade these for these for a long time and I was never able to provide the right info to convince them otherwise... One day I saw one in the pop report so just added the card to a regular sub and it was slabbed without any problems.
I had four of those Lampos and sold them after PSA would not grade them, I wish I would have kept one as that is my favorite old card of Ali.

I got just got this back from bgs. I bought it by mistake because I thought it was from 1964 but apparently its still pretty rare. I haven't seen it catalogued anywhere yet.
1986 /87 Mike Tyson question of sport card The pic on the card was taken May 20th 1986 in the fight with Mitch Blood Green 58 seconds in to the 2nd round Mike had 20 wins 19 KOs 0 losses Mitch Green had 16 wins 1 loss 1 draw 10 KOs
Picked this Joe Frazier rookie. I'm hoping the card presents better than it does in the scan. It's a tough card to find so I'm happy to just get one for now. I really like the design of these cards but the image quality of he picture used on the card is pretty poor. I still like it better than the Nestles card for Frazier rookie options though.
Just picked this one up too. I'm really looking for felix poutin to use for the Dempsey rookie but this will do for now. I like it better than the champions card. Does anyone know if these are blank back or not? I don't have it in hand yet.
I'm not sure if this card has been posted here before, but can anyone help me out with identifying the year and issue of the Cassius Clay / Muhammad Ali card? First scan shows relative size compared with a CS1 holder, and next 2 are close/zoom scans of front and back sides. Thanks a lot:
1970s card from Asia. Not sure if it's from China or Indonesia or somewhere else, can't remember. I believe they're in Warshaw's book. A whole mess of them on ebay right now with high BINs if you want more.
I have some of these, Iberian issues, from about 1928/29 I remember being told when in Spain, where I bought them from a dealer years ago. They seem to be very rare. I never see them on ebay. They come with different names of various companies on the back, or they come blank, without , say, a chocolate maker's mark, or a printed number (for what, I have no idea, it's not a card number) I have about 5 of the American boxers, some with and some without. I'll have to dig them out of the archives and post some scans.
ok, I found if I use my URL not the upload image feature, I can at least get some joy... COMET is another variety, and AGUDO did different backs too, see these 2 pix:
Nice cards, thanks for sharing. I have the Max Schmeling from that Quien es el Champeon Mundial? set (scans posted somewhere on this thread several pages back) but I had only seen one other card from the set before yours.
Your Joe Louis in your other post is a 1942 Editorial Bruguera, from Spain.
I've got a Tommy Loughran with an Amatller back and was able to pick up one of those Bruguera Joe Louis cards a while back. Most of the ones I've seen have heavy back damage after being removed from an album.
I was aware of the company Comet through a different set of cards that they have advertising on. Nice to see all the different back variations though. Thanks for sharing!
Hi chaps, thanks very much for your replies, and that help with the Joe Louis Spanish card - now I know. Great! Yes, it was seeing the Max Schmeling card from this Spanish series that made me join this forum, as I wanted to share the images/cards I have too. When I find the cards themselves (these were images already on my PC) which are somewhere in my many card boxes and files, I'll scan them all and upload them here. Best wishes to you all!
long time gang, lots of great pickups! Only a small one from me, a very beat up Pascualito Perez 1967 Figuritas RC, in the (hopefully soon launched) top 100 boxing RC set registry. Been looking for one for a while, now the upgrade hunt begins, heh.

Good luck with grading on these Quien es el Campeon cards though. So far they've been N9'd.
To be honest, I recommend picking up Adam Warshaw's book. Anyone that collects pre-1980 boxing cards needs to have that. It will pay for itself many times over.
As for Perez, you've got a few options. He's got disc cards going back to the late-1950s (58/59) and also has a 1965 Crack Golazo tarjeton (the rectangle cards that many are are accustomed to). Here's a scan of the 65:
You're also probably going to want to know about Locche, since he's in the IBHOF. He's also got discs from the early 1960s and is also in the 1965 Crack Golazo and 1967 Crack Campeon sets. He's also in the 1966 Maravillas set, which almost certainly also contains a Pascual Perez, although I've yet to see one. While we're on IBHOF members from Argentina, there's also Carlos Monzon and Victor Galindez. Monzon was extremely popular and has a lot of cards from the 1970s. Galindez was also popular but died very young....
"After losing a rematch with Burnett in 1980 by a decision in twelve in Anaheim, California, Galíndez was forced to retire because of two operations to repair his detached retinas, and then he tried to pursue his other dream of becoming a stock-car race pilot. On October 25 of that year, he participated in what would be his first and last Turismo Carretera race. After going to the pit for repairs, Galíndez was struck by a car that lost control and killed instantly while in the waiting area."
He's got a couple of cards that I've seen -- 1976 Campeon and 1980 Deportitas. The 76 is tougher than the 80, but my frame of reference is off since there's only been a few people actively buying cards for years so the 80 could be very difficult but I stopped buying them after I got a few copies.
Argentina also had some other popular local fighters that were ranked contenders back in the day and they've got a good amount of cards to collect, most notably Ringo Bonavena who went 15 rounds with Ali.
there it is! That was the one I remember seeing a scan of 1-2 years back, but to be honest, it had been so long since I'd seen the card I thought that the one you posted now was the one I bought. Serves me right for not being more cautious - or referencing Adam's book, but I did buy a couple copies of the new edition a few months back. Thanks as always for the good info. I really like that 65, esp. as it looks so much like 60 topps FB.
Yeah, I believe Shorin started licensing distribution rights in 1958 or about there internationally. Not sure exactly when Argentina jumped on but they started producing Topps sets in Spanish under the manufacturer name Stani. I haven't been able to determine if Crack was a subsidiary of Stani or if they just pirated a bunch of Topps designs but it's happened on more than one occasion. There's a futbol set (with a a very nice Pele I've been trying to hunt down for a while) in one of their late-1960s sets that uses a Topps football set design. I suppose it makes some sense, since their sets were primarily futbol cards so I'm sure they naturally went with Topps' football designs. There's also a complete ripoff of the 1970 (?) Topps Super football set from the early 1970s that has cards of Monzon, Locche and Bonavena (that I know of so far). Here's a few scans:
The odd thing about the 1965 Crack Golazo set is that there isn't a Cassius Clay card. Clay was very popular in Argentina and they had already produced cards of him from 1964 and earlier. He's in the 66 Maravillas and 67 Campeon set but nothing in the 65. Too bad.
the "120" Joe Louis sticker is from a Spanish collection of stickers issued by DURA, called, I think, simply "SPORTS" (so, in Spanish it'd be DEPORTIVI I guess - I have seen lots of the stickers but not yet a packet, nor an album cover so forgive my imprecision there) and it's from c.1968. There are a few boxing stickers in that series, amidst other sports, which include ESQUIVAR #111, and IGNACIO ARA #123.

wow, that's a strong price. There hasn't been a high-grade Hemmets up in a long time either, would be interesting to see which would go for more right now.
It's not like most of these are beat up either. Seems like one of those issues where the vast majority are in decent shape when found (>PSA 5). But hey, whatever peels your potato. But without an album to examine I don't know how anyone can put any stock in the 1965 designation. Seems like people just submit stuff over and over with their idea of when it was released until PSA finally slabs it.
