As with any investment, the key to figuring out the risk is to find out what a market maker would pay to buy one of the sets, cash on the barrel head-also know as the ACV (actual cash value).I bet someone like MCM would pay about 2000. So basically the risk of loss is about 500.00 right now, probably about the same as any other numismatic investment. Just my 2 cents---------BigE
I'd buy another set but not from APMEX. They could drop the price to $1000 and I wouldn't give them my business. I know some of you are old, but you should remember how they went about screwing over many folks by shipping those culls (kiss my A box) and then not admitting to segregating the good coins from the bad. Not me, no way.
Can't find the ATB Bullion coins on Gainsville site anymore. Guess they stopped selling them? Provident Metals has them. Guessing that is the way I go in a couple days
Well I don't haveto have another set and i won't lose what i never had. I think you are wrong about a company that doesn't care about its customers. It's not a formula for success.
I just got a reminder from APMEX Customer Relations asking me if I was going to purchase the set I have in my shopping cart. I think I'll just let it set there for a while longer, unless, of course, the price drops another 20%...
Talked to Gainsville coins. Guy said they haven't had the ATB 5 oz bullion coins for "a while". Provident has them and of course my favorite buddies APMEX. Well Provident has them at a good price. Tulving has them at a better price just not up for 500 ounces at the moment.

I understand your point of view, as mine is similar. I, too, said I'd never buy from APMEX again - and I haven't. Unfortunately, I can also see where pitboss is coming from. Makes for an interesting dilemma if they ever offered something I felt I had to have. Of course, it is possible to over think things. Maybe it all boils down to what price a person is willing to put on their self respect.

How does 2195 work for you on the 2011 set?
I wish I had the extra cash, that is a great price.

One of the guys at a local B&M told me that the price collapsed on these because a "major market maker" decided to unload everything they had. It's possible APMEX was the purchaser and that is what we are now seeing. .

And just to add if someone wants to buy from them, more power to them. This is the land of the free. I've voiced my opinion and some will agree and others not. I just wonder what letter A<PEX has written on the box of these sets.

I would like to have the set in DMPL 69, but after I received my box of "A"s , with the best coin being a 68PL, (no DMPLs) I also took the pledge not to ever by from APMEX again. After I get a Gettysburg and Vicksburg DMPL 69 I will be pretty much done with the bullion series anyway.
A few month's back when APMEX 'lowered' the price to $3000, they showed 25 sets available, I was watching and they reset that more than a few times. I'd say they had to of sold at least 100 to 200 sets at that time.

How long ago were they $3K?
Did you all catch the thread about milk spots on the pucks. That would just so suck with the DMPL sets!!

I have one from one of my first A-Mark sets that has a few milk spots when I received it. I don't remember which one it is as they are closeted away now.

What do you guys think about Provident Metals selling the 2011 PCGS MS69 DMPL First Strike set for $1484? True the first three are dogs, but the Vicksburg and Chickasaw could end up with nice mintages.
Thanks for the info on the 2011's DMPLs from Provident Metals. I will buy from them next year for the 2012s if the price is the same for the set and if they offer them. Paid too much for 2011 single DMPLs. This is a really good price but only need the Chickasaw.
Looks like MCM (john) has been "one-upped" by Provident Precious Metals
at $1484, that's $296 a coin.
MCM should lower their ask price on Chicksaw and Olympic to sub $300 per soon.......as they say their price wont be beat....well I guess that's not so right now.

I hope so...
I just checked. They sold another one. That's two sets in only 21 hours :-)
How do you check to see what they have sold?

Try entering a large quantity in the order box.
I'm in for just one set and for the long haul. I'm sure that I'll be O.K. in the long run.
The slooooooow pace of sales just amazes me.
To think, just a few months ago I was turning down offers of $2500 for a Yos. MS69DMPL FS.
individuals do, because they will just go on without us and most people will forget what they did. We, as the buyers, will be the only one's to
lose when these coins are all gone and we have to pay more money to get them on the secondary market. Unfortunately that is how big
business works and no matter what we do it will not change so I will not cut off my nose to spite my face,
P.S. Apmex is down to 29 of these sets so if you want one you better get it quickly as when they run out the price of these things will rise.

They picked up another 20 sets it looks like, they now have 47.
PCGS does not show any more as being graded, still at 955.

So, I wonder how many times they are going to do that - bump the quantity. I wonder just how many sets they really have?????
<< <i>How does 2195 work for you on the 2011 set? >>
$2195 for the set in question and I'm in.
2011? Not a chance.............
With all the sets that seem to be missing it would not surprise me if they have more but I doubt if you are going to see $2195.

I wonder as well. Incredible how many 69DMPLFS they have!
Out of the 955 they probably had 150 to 200 ,
They were only limited by the Grand Canyon.

They sold one more tonight.

My set arrived today and there were no identifying marks on it at all. They were in a box inside a box very well packed with styrofoam.
Beautiful set!
Already put away with my other set for at least 5 years. I want to complete 2 complete sets of 69 DMPL's for my kids.

Funny how they got most of the good coins from that mintage to wind up with that many DMPL's.

Apmex sold 3 more sets today.
