I can't speak for anyone else's coins, but as for the first two hundred or so of ours they are on par with the last few issues in terms of quality. There will be many 70's cranked out from both services. I still expect a quick sell out at the U.S. Mint, and once that occurs (if not sooner) my guess is we will no longer be offering them at the current level.

My experience is that small breaks in frost, ie cameo on raised areas is not 100% complete, has no influence on the numerical portion of grade. If the frost breaks are numerous and large it could make a diffference as to whether the coin receives a cameo or ultra cameo designation.

I sent my three proofs back for replacement. I called the mint to tell them this. Their response is they will first issue a refund and then put in a new order for you.
To speed things up I also purchased another proof which will ship very soon.

I've never had them enter a new order when I've asked for a replacement. The replacement showed up under the original order and the new shipping tracking number showed up under the original order. I've sent back for replacement several times.
One more proof on the way tomorrow from the mint. 3 others returned for replacements ($38 to return with insurance). After this, I am giving up for quality.
I think I inadvertently wrote exchange for mine and meant to write replace on the return from. Exchange I believe you have to tell them what exactly you want to exchange it for- something of equal value I guess. I wasn't sure so I called and made sure they knew I wanted replacements for the same coin.
<< <i>Received mine. Not only does the box get damaged, the coin doesn't look good either. Is it called frost break?

The dark spots that show on the frosted parts of the coin on your photo are really "shiney" or bright points on the coin in normal lighting, right?
These are the small pixel-like breaks in the frost. The larger breaks are more likely small "hits" or blemishes from post-striking. Others can chime in if I am incorrect.
Yours exhibits the freckling array of breaks that mine and others are seeing.

My two proof look the same. What a pain. I'll likely go Downtown to D.C. and look at some at the sales counter to hopefully find a couple of nice ones.

If they raise the prices for my returned liberties I will cancel the order. I just bought two more to protect my price. One should arrive today. The other one I just placed now. Prices probably will rise tomorrow. Hopefully, the threat of rising gold prices, will put more pressure of a sell out but doubt it. I staggered my orders on purpose so hopefully the crappy ones are in one bunch, spreading the orders out might give me a better chance. Just a theory.

Received two prf and two unc on Friday, the prfs were terrible; frost breaks and pitted fields on one, the other has a big scratch under the date. That night I ordered two more prfs which were delivered today (Wednesday). The new ones are beautiful.

The quality of these proofs are just unacceptable. When I purchased 10 of the first Liberties in 07 they were all high quality-though no all 70s. No frost breaks that are plaquing these coins. Let the mint know and send these back, maybe they will get the message and improve their quality control. At over $800 now, I expect high quality for these and collectors should accept no less. If you want keep these coins with these horrible frost breaks for your collection, good luck trying to sell them in the future. I have five more proofs coming and will report what I find here
I just randomly browsing the PCGS Shared order page, and found that a person submitted 5 PR and 5 MS for First Strike. To my surprise, he/she got 3 PR70 (60%), but only 1 MS70 (20%)!!!
From the general consensus, the MS quality is much better than the proof's. Is it just bad luck for him, or is the PCGS grading standard for Buchanan MS much higher?
Got both sets of PR and MS in yesterday. All four coins on the way to PCGS this morning hoping for three 70's and a 69 I saw one very small contact mark on one of the MS coins. BTW delivery on my second order was two days best service I have ever gotten from a mint order.
