    Jason who? image

The new guys came through in this game, nice to see. Beckett absolutely sucked. Hope he figures it out soon.

Whata game, looked like Smokey Joe Wood vs Walter Johnson....for one inning. Up and downs, his and lows! I got to watch about 7 innings that had to listen to the radio, course as I drove by Fenway....a quick exit strategy after the 8th and I was home free. Let's do it again Tuesday!

Great comeback for the Sox last night. With all the talk about run prevention over run production, I have to admit that when it was 5-1 for the Yankees I had basically given up on the game. I was glad to be proven wrong though.

I think I'm going to love having Marco Scutaro on the team this year.

Anybody else see Mike Cameron trip on his way out of the dugout when he was being announced?

    Beckett extended: 4 years/$68 million.

The Sox rotation seems pretty well set for the next several years.

I gotta admit Im not that optimistic about this year however disgruntled as I am about this past offseason AND last Season ( The year before too ) opening day reels me in.

Great way to start the Season by beating the hated Yankees, hopefully we can have some fun this year and give them a run for their money.

    LETS GO SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much did the Phillies pay the Yankees to take Chan Ho "out of the" Park off their hands ?

Girardi lost that game by sticking with CC past the fifth. Hey Joe, it's the first game of the year, be happy with five stellar innings and you have a W.

Glad to see Beckett signed. Maybe he will not suck next time.

CC cracks me up, Im watching him in the first inning and laughing at the guy on how he takes his cap off and constantly wipes his forehead- the guy acts like he is laboring through the 8th inning or something image

if Scutaro loses another game with a Luso-like error, we will need to come up with an appropriate nick name for him

for a guy with a 1.85 ERA last year, it wouldn't make sense for me to loathe seeing him come in to pitch, but I do.

Time for Ortiz to sit and give Lowell a shot at DH...Lowell, after all, is making $12.5m per, can't let him just rot in the dugout. Ortiz needs to find his zone quickly, or he is gonna start hearing the boo birds. He looks tentative and late on his swings, gotta do better or he is gonna be toast.

What the hell happened to the splitter he used to have?

Yup, I have no confidence in Papi. Looks like he did not get into shape like Theo told him to do, either.

Martinez is in there for his bat, not his game-calling acumen.

Big Papi loses his cool big time with Red Sox press...

Paraphrasing, "When (s#%$) happens you guys just like to write (s$&*), why don't one of you (rhymes with DUCKs) go out an hit for me.

This will not endear Ortiz to the press in the future and will eventually erode the good will of the fans. If you suck at the plate and you're 1-11, I say take it like a man. You will get heat in Boston, NOBODY is exempt when you don't produce, especially when you have RISP and you whiff or hit the ball to the 2nd baseman time after time. And, when you're being paid a mind-numbing $80,250 PER GAME to swing a bat 4 times a game, you better be getting a least one hit per AB.

I remember fans booing Ted Williams...clue to Big Papi, be humble, work on your game and take the heat, otherwise it's gonna be a long, long season. The Red Sox faithful can be brutal.

In all honesty Ortiz is in the right for saying what he did, I mean seriously we are 3 games into the season and the press is giving him a hard time already? Its actually ridiculous, dont get me wrong Ortiz IMO will be horrible this year but in fairness to him lets wait a couple more games before we start talking about slumping! image

supposedly he lost fat and maintained/built muscle. Sure haven't seen any good come of it. We shall see against KC

Eh, I was hoping he juiced up this offseason in the Dominican to be totally honest.
  • papi may do what he did last year if given the chance... hit less than 30 homers and hit about .240. His career is just about over. I cannot imagine that they wont sit him and give Lowell some at bats should his temper continue to flare and batting average continue to plummet.
  • TheVonTheVon Posts: 2,725
At some point they have to give Lowell at bats if for no other reason than to show other teams that he still has trade value. Right now though, I'm happy he's still on the team as I genuinely feel he'd make a better DH than Ortiz for the next couple weeks.
  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,490 ✭✭✭✭✭
looks like I should have started the Zambrano-Ortiz comparison thread.

They must be taking your advice.

Nice of Grienke to be semi-hittable this game.

Two innings in and Lester looks terrible. Could be a long day.

Something uncommon that I realized that the Yankees and Red Sox have in common this year. Both teams have now had starting lineups which featured their entire outfield as 7, 8, and 9 hitters.

He may have only played 6 games this far, but he does still lead the league.
