-1980/81 OPC hof'er Peter Stastny(TTM) -1985 Topps Steve McMichael (IP) -1952 Topps Minnie Minoso (TTM)
It has been a little slow for TTM's lately. I have just been focusing on my HOF collection so I haven't sent out a ton of TTM's. Here are a few that I have picked up over the past few weeks. The first was from a hockey HOF'er Peter Stastny. The second one I obtained at a golf outing that Ernie Banks was scheduled to appear at. Ernie never showed up but I was happy to get a Chicago Bears legend and recent member of the NCAA hof, Steve McMichael. The third return I am a little disappointed about. I sent Minnie Minoso his 52 rc with a donation and the top right comer got bent during shipping. -
A couple of really nice returns today. The Calvin Murphy was signed at a public signing done by Fittermansports.com for only $10 with HOF inscription! That was a really good deal for a NBA legend and one of the best free throw shooters of all time. I was really excited to get the Josh Hamilton back. A SCN member was able to get my card signed after BP in Baltimore last week.
- 1989 UD John Smoltz (SCN) - 1989 UD Sandy Alomar jr. (SCN)
I picked up these two from a couple of SCN board members. The SMoltz isn't the best looking signature but it was a really good deal from a future HOF'er. Sandy Alomar jr. will never be a HOF'er but had a solid career, and was one of my favorite White Sox players back in the day.
I would question that Alomar. Mind you it might have, and was likely, signed during a different time/year then mine, but the PSA DNA signature I have is much smoother.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
Ya, I am a little skeptical about the Sandy Alomar jr. I only paid $4.00 for it from an SCN member. I believe he got it signed TTM several years ago. It is possible that Sandy was Ghost signing his autograph requests.
I got this beauty signed by Larry Bird at a private signing set up by VitoCo1972. THANKS Mike!! Now I just need to keep my fingers crossed and hope that the Magic comes out just as nice. This card is setting up to become my favorite card in my collection.
Even though I already posted this when I first got it back. I thought it deserved a second look in the PSA 10 holder (blue flip)! This is hands down my favorite TTM I have received back so far. This is one of the reasons why sending out TTM's is so much fun. You never know when you might get lucky and score the difficult signer.
I was 95% certain it was legit after comparing it to PSA authenticated signatures on eBay. However, I was questioning that it might be ghost signed since I have never heard of Phelps signing his mail. I might be a bid dork, but this really made my day.
Did the card happen to smell a tad.. uh.. hippy-ish when you got it back?
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
- 1965 Philadelphia hof'er Paul Krause (TTM) - 1986 Topps Andre Reed (TTM)
Here are a couple that I have received over the past few days. Both the Krause and Reed were sent out TTM over 2 months ago. I was starting to think that they might not come back.
I have been working on my HOF hockey collection lately. I got this hockey legend back today through TTM. Cam alson included a personalized hand written note thanking me for my donation ($10).
Let us also not forget his HOF role in Dumb & Dumber.......Kick his A$$ Seabass!

-1977 Topps hot'er Make Haynes (eBay) -1964 Philadelphia hof'er Herb Adderly (TTM)
These two arrived today. The Haynes is the first PSA/DNA autographed card that I have purchased. He isn't the most difficult signature to obtain, However, he doesn't sign TTM and the cost of his signature at a show would have been more expensive then what I paid for the card. I have to admit that it is more fun to hunt down the signature and to get them graded myself. This card just didn't make much sense financially to get in person.
That is not a bad price for a slabbed Mike Haynes rookie. $26.10 is a great deal considering the 1997 Legends is usually a $15 to $20 autograph on Ebay. Haynes only has 2 Certifieds and they are both from 1997. Anything under $40 for his slabbed rookie is a good deal in my book.
I very cool return came in the mail today from the Bengals training camp. A SCN board member was able to get my Carson Palmer rc signed for me this pre-season. I was unsure if he was ever able to get my card signed. This was a very pleasant surprise to get this one back signed.
- 1961 Fleer hof'er Elgin Baylor - 1970 Topps hof'er Artis Gilmore - 1989 Score hof'er Michael Ervin - 1984 Topps hof'er Eric Dickerson
A fellow board member has been working on getting a bunch of my cards signed for me at different events in Southern Cal. I will update the scans over the next couple of days. Thanks Jes!! I will probably upgrade the the Baylor and Ervin at some point in the future. However, I am very happy just to be able to check them off my list of hof'ers being that they were both legends of their sport.
- 1990 Leaf Frank Thomas -1990 Topps Frank Thomas -1990 Score Frank Thomas - 1990 Score Traded Frank Thomas - 1990 Score Jeremy Roenick - 1990 UD Jeremy Roenick - 1990 ProSet Jeremy Roenick - 1991 Hoops Mike Krzyzewski x2 - 1992 Skybox Mike Krzyzewski
I attended the Chicago Sports HOF awards Dinner tonight. This was the first time I have attended an event like this. At first I was a little hesitant to go, since it was $125 for a ticket. I was pleasantly surprised how willing the athletes/coaches were willing to sign for the guests attending the event. The Big Hurt was one of my favorite players growing up and it was an absolute pleasure to finally meet him.
Both of these arrived in my mail box today after I sent them out over 6 weeks ago. I am starting to thinkg that I might want to start a set of signed 69 tall boys since I already have most of the HOF'ers out of the way..
<< <i> I am starting to thinkg that I might want to start a set of signed 69 tall boys since I already have most of the HOF'ers out of the way.] >>
Bit of advice if you do...i thought it was that easy too. I'm stuck at 53/98 at the moment. There are only 2-3 reliable guys left plus 10 dead guys. Some of the HOFers left can be tough - Dave Bing is Mayor of Detroit and doesn't sign much. John Havlicek only signs for a fee every couple years. Hal Greer is a HOFer that I can't seem to find a way to get a signature from (and I need a 61 Fleer and a 69 Topps from him). The Wilt will definitely cost over $350. The Gus Johnson card was made infinitely more difficult by him being elected to the HOF last year as a veteran. Now that card is in everyone's HOF set too. Finally, 2 living guys (McCarter and Tresvant) both suffered debilitating strokes at some point in their lives. They are both alive but unable to sign.
You have an awesome collection and I enjoy looking at this thread. However, I must say that I have never seen a Gail Goodrich autograph with those "G's" or that type of signature. Anyways, awesome collection!
<< <i>You have an awesome collection and I enjoy looking at this thread. However, I must say that I have never seen a Gail Goodrich autograph with those "G's" or that type of signature. Anyways, awesome collection! >>
I agree 100% after looking at other sigs. He is one of the best signer when it comes to TTM's. I wonder why this was ghost signed??
I had a very strange afternoon, I attended a "lunch with a legend" event today at Mortons steak house. I have heard that these events usually conclude with an autograph signing for the people attending the event.
Unfortunately, this was not the case today with Scottie Pippen. He was escorted in through a side door and escorted out through the Kitchen as soon as the event concluded. I think he might have signed two autographs as he walked out and then security quickly removed him out the back.
At the time the event had concluded, I was a little disappointed that I had just spend $50 on the event and another $30 to park my car (parking is very expensive in downtown Chicago). I noticed that a mob of people had gathered infront of the restaurant and I knew that I didn't have a chance to get anything signed, so I just walked to my car.
As I entered the underground parking garage I noticed out of the corner of my eye Pippen being escorted to a car though a side door. I quickly walked over to where he was just about to get into a car and I was able to get a card in his hand. I am extremely fortunate and lucky to get my card signed since I was one of maybe three people to get anything signed.
I scored a really nice TTM return today. Fouts hasn't been signing much TTM over the past year. He even returned the $10 donation I sent with my card. I had sent this card out back in June This was the second time I tried getting a rc signed. The first one that I sent back last September was never returned. This time I included a two page hand written letter. I am not sure why he chose to sign my card but I am extremely grateful that he did.
- 1965 Topps Hof'er Tony Perez (IP Signing) - 1973 Topps Hof'er Franco Harris (IP) - 1972 Topps Hof'er Carlton Fisk (ip) - Hof'er Stan Mikita signed Puck (iP)
I not very acctive when it comes to chaseing autographs in person but today was a great day for knocking some HOF'ers off my list. The first one was Tony Perez, I got my card signed at a local card shop that was doing a public signing.
The second group of cards I managed to get at the Gayle Sayers charity dinner. I did not personally attend this dinner, at $150 per ticket I wasn't willing to take the chance of not getting my itmes signed. However, I figured that I would spend some time and try catching the players as they were leaving the event.
Huge haul John. LMK next time you're going to see Mikita. Would love to pick up something signed but his RC is too expensive. Cecil Cooper is signing in Boston at MAB November if you want to complete that card. I have someone going for me to grab me Fred Lynn on an ASG ball. LMK if you want me to put you in touch.
Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
- 1980 OPC Hof'er Mike Gartner (ttm) - 1985 OPC Hof'er Al Macinnis (ttm)
I got back two nice hockey hof'ers TTM today. The Gartner card got a little beat up sending it to Canada in a PWE. I normally send all my TTM requests in two bubble mailers but since I was sending it to Canada I figured I would have a better chance of getting it back if he didn't have to go to the PO to mail it back to me.
- 1999 Topps Chrome refractor Ricky Williams (SCN signing) - 1957 Topps Hof'er Bill Mazeroski (x2 SCN signing)
These three were signed at private signings set up by a few SCN board members. The two Maz's were signed at two different signings. I originally picked up a raw rc off of eBay and was very disappointed by the condition of the card. I decided to pick up a second PSA 5 that I cracked out for the other signing. I just happened to get both cards back on the same day.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

My hands were actually shaking as I was placing it in the holder. The Moon and the Schaub were signed IP by a couple of SCN board members. Thanks guys!!
The Magic/Bird/Erving looks nice. Out of all the signed rookies I have, mine is one of my favorites as well. Something about the guys that dominated the sport when I was growing up is part of the allure of that card. Also, to me, the fact that it's just one of the normal cards in the set is neat. It's not limited, it's not a manufactured rarity with a serial number stamped on it, it's not a sticker autographed card, it's just a basic standard issued Topps card that houses 3 of the most dominant players in the history of the NBA, and two of those happen to be rookies. Outstanding!!
