I think i may have found a way to get around the household limit. Instead of using a credit card you can buy a US Mint e-gift certificate, send it to a friend and then place the order with it. So long as its not the same shipping address it should work
If the Mint gets another 10,000 orders in the next couple of days, I can see them cancelling all those who ordered more than one to the same address or the same credit card.
They should do this anyway regardless of number of orders.Any way that the system can deliver the promised fairness is okay by me.
If you want it and haven't ordered yet, NOW is the time to do so. You can probably get thru pretty quickly and it is a very nice collectors item for $60.

<< <i>The cancel box is already gone on my order number 33159--- place around 10 minutes after they want on sale. That's the fastest I can ever remember the cancel box disappearing. >>
I got my order confirmation email at 9:12 am PT.. just Czeched the order status.. still says "1 unit backordered. Expected to ship on 10/30/2009", and the cancel box is still there.. I ordered a 2009 Mint set along with the Lincoln set.. that one says "In stock and reserved" but also has a cancel box..
The Web site seems fairly brisk now, but I'm not gonna try to order anything else just to see if the shopping cart system is still bogged down.. told some non-collector friends they should jump on these sets.. they NEVER listen to me..
I'm tryin' to remember what coin / set sold out in like two hours a few years ago.. but someone's gonna have to remind me.. I want to say the Buffalo Coin and Currency Set, but I think that one was either two or four days..

Well, those, and then, of course, the mad rush for Mariana Island spoons probably account for half the numbers..

What would be even more interesting is if the people who ordered multiple sets from the same IP Address got canceled.
Im over the moon if the orders were still ok around the 3:30 / 4:00 mark , #33193xxx , id mentally noted this day for months , all summer , biding my time , reminding myself all week..and remembered at 12:38 this afternoon I was sure it would be sold out almost instantly.Got locked out the account and had to reset the password , id essentially given up until i seen you guys posting order numbers here , thanks for that , id really like one of these.

I agree, who else would wait an hour or two to order a spoon. Anyone unknowingly caught in the perfect storm this afternoon would give up after 5 minutes.
<< <i>Lowest order number referencing this thread is 33,159,xxx. The last order number is 33,19x,xxx. When the order number gets to be around 33,209,xxx we may have a sellout. So we are around 10,000-19,000 from a sellout. And 31,000-40,000 have sold (I mean, orders) in less than 4 hours.

I have a second order 33,201,xxx. Close to a sellout I would say...probably today.
My brother ordered one set earlier and his # is 33158xxx..... He had no problems, just got lucky...ordered around 12:05 EDT... that would make it over 41,000 sold as of 5:30PM (EDT)

I talked my Uncle into ordering one for me, Took 3 mins on the phone. Order: 33204xxx, I also had my mother in law order one but haven't received order conf yet.
First order 33164XXX Last order 33201XXX -- more than 37,000 orders to the mint today between my orders.
The difference from the first number posted 33159xxx to the latest number 33204xxx - 45,000 orders and counting.... I would guess a complete sellout by 7pm ET as folks get home that did not have a chance to order earlier...

The Mint's Web site seems to be back to full speed.. the set is still available (as I type this).. my confirmed order still has a cancel box, and there's hamburger all over the highway in Mystic, Connecticut..
I was reading the first pages of this thread and totally missed this link earlier today, once the sales opened and the madness began..
Here's a very pretty Web site created by "The CoinNews Media Group LLC family of Web sites".. never heard of them before.. but it's a classy presentation, with a flash slide-show of the set, the coins, where the other 450,000 Lincoln $s went, and a lot of other stuff even a non-collector could comprehend.. it'll save ya a lot of explaining..

Of course, not all orders are for the Lincoln set, but likely most are.
Highest I see is $349.95 so far.. If the one that some guy listed for over $700.00 actually sells, I'll eat my hat..
Don't forget the possibility that some peepuls mite nott spel "Chronicles" correkly.. you can often snatch a bargain looking for aukshuns listed by people who dropped out of grammar skool in the third grade.. try searching for "MorgEn Dollar" or "Morgan DollEr" or "MorgEn DollEr".. I almost always find some listed all three ways.. then again, if there are people who spell that badly, and there are, God only knows how they'd pack a raw coin to mail it.. probably tape it to a 3" x 5" card.. so I won't bother mentioning that in the early 1980s, when most computers used 5 1/4" floppy disks, I worked for a company whose other offices had to mail me a weekly disk so I could coagulate them into a database or something.. I had office MANAGERS actually STAPLE notes to the disks before mailing them.. but I digress..
Harv... you're my 'better-half' favorite poster... she still laughs about the Bald Eagle Set and your comments about 'fairy dust'... I told her if we had more quick sell-outs from the mint you would post more often.
Another friend just ordered me my fourth and last set. Order placed approx. 8:05 eastern 33210xxx. The Mint rep. insisted that the set is not sold out yet and that this order will be received. Don't know if I believe that one, but I'll see.

Sell-out should be confirmed within 2 hours or 7:00p.m. ET at the latest.
Top eBay price thus far: $349!

It happens, but I agree the shake-out price this winter should be around $200/set.
at least 27,000 sets have been sold. This assumes
that approximately 70% of the orders, included one of
these sets. Of course this is an extremely conservative
estimate.

My order does show "backordered" but with a cancel box -- but I also ordered 5 mint sets at the same time so that may have something to do with it.
