Go here. I gave up the phone after an hour of redialing: must be very patient, my order took about 10 minutes online.
Even though I got mine within the first 20 minutes (luckily) of the opening bell, it seems the lines are STILL clogged and the Mint's Website remains at a crawling pace!!
<< <i>well how come I see a lot of other buyers ordering between 2-4 of these. using someone elses cc and address? >>
They are probably ordering using different credit cards under different names and different billing addresses.
The Mint does a cross check to make sure there are no multiple orders. Some people may be able to skate through, but if addresses and/or credit card numbers match, all orders are kicked out.
Using different cards to the same address (even if under separate names), or the same card to different addresses, are easy to catch.
Multiple orders to the same name at different addresses using different cards will be scrutinized but not automatically kicked out.

I can't screw around with this sort of stuff while at work, but I'm not going to pay the eBay flippers or those charging big bucks on the BST either. So, instead I made my mom wake up at 6am (she lives in Maui) to order me a set, haha, just got an email that she eventually got through after a couple of hours and was order #33180XXX. She thought $60 for 4 pennies and a dollar was pretty silly. Good thing she hasn't seen what I've paid for the coins in my Registry set

Just from monitoring the Order Numbers from my co-workers who are helping me obtain a few of these, it looks like the sets will be a 'first day sellout'. If the pace continues anywhere near these levels, the product could go to 'backorder' status before 5 p.m. EST while the mint obtains their quota of back up orders and should go completely dark before midnight. Just my opinion.
Went to site and completed order in under 3 minutes. Order 3319xxxx
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
<< <i>Now the question is will any of these sets have the infamous Formative Years DDR? If so, I think they'd go for moon money since there is only 50,000 sets being sold - making the odds much smaller of getting a DDR. >>
Sadly if there are DDR's in this set and they go for moon money, someone might be tempted to "manufacture" error sets depending on how easily coins can be swapped out.
The cancel box is already gone on my order number 33159--- place around 10 minutes after they want on sale. That's the fastest I can ever remember the cancel box disappearing.
Lowest order number referencing this thread is 33,159,xxx. The last order number is 33,19x,xxx. When the order number gets to be around 33,209,xxx we may have a sellout. So we are around 10,000-19,000 from a sellout. And 31,000-40,000 have sold (I mean, orders) in less than 4 hours.
I wonder how many are using prepaid gift/credit cards to get multiples...? I know a guy that was doing that and he claimed it worked but I'd also heard he'd gotten a call back at some point...apparently they had caller ID....
I had to be at my doctor's office from 8:30-11 AM, California time, so had my Blackberry with me, and couldn't get thru on the internet at all, just kept getting server and gateway errors... called straight for 45 minutes before I finally got through and was able to order one.
I was on that D**N blackberry for an hour afterwards, and the thing just wouldn't load. IMHO, internet usage via handhelds isn't what it's cracked up to be, and I'm so frustrated at slowness (AT&T), small screen/page size, can't read w/o a loupe, etc., etc., I'm ready to dump it, and save myself $40 a month!!
Order one online through sister and niece, that went OK... a bit slow, but completed...
Jeez... why does the Mint create this bottleneck by refusing to allow a subscription for these special items? It would take the heat off the net & phone lines, even if they had to limit the number of subscriptiuons for those not in the know, and forced to call in, or order over the net. Maybe it's not practical, or cost-efficient to do so.

Question, if one has the Lincoln Proof Commem & Proof Cents, will this constitute the Chronicles Set or is it the other "stuff" combined with these coins that will make this a "Numismatic" collectable?
It will be VERY interesting how the US Mint handles the dup orders. If the orders continue at this pace we could have 50,000 orders into the system by this evening. Then the waiting list group starts. If the Mint gets another 10,000 orders in the next couple of days, I can see them cancelling all those who ordered more than one to the same address or the same credit card. If those waiting list orders DON'T materialize, then they may let everyone who ordered get their coins. I do feel, dispite the early ordering delays with the system, that this was the fairest way to do it. I got my one order and I will be very happy to have it in my collection in its original packaging. Good luck to everyone who wants one, and a word to the wise. If you want it and haven't ordered yet, NOW is the time to do so. You can probably get thru pretty quickly and it is a very nice collectors item for $60. Steve
Highest I see is $349.95 so far.. If the one that some guy listed for over $700.00 actually sells, I'll eat my hat..
Don't forget the possibility that some peepuls mite nott spel "Chronicles" correkly.. you can often snatch a bargain looking for aukshuns listed by people who dropped out of grammar skool in the third grade.. try searching for "MorgEn Dollar" or "Morgan DollEr" or "MorgEn DollEr".. I almost always find some listed all three ways.. then again, if there are people who spell that badly, and there are, God only knows how they'd pack a raw coin to mail it.. probably tape it to a 3" x 5" card.. so I won't bother mentioning that in the early 1980s, when most computers used 5 1/4" floppy disks, I worked for a company whose other offices had to mail me a weekly disk so I could coagulate them into a database or something.. I had office MANAGERS actually STAPLE notes to the disks before mailing them.. but I digress..

Don't open the package from the mint.Put yourself above reproach,in other words.Sell on ebay for moon money as an unopened set that could possibly contain DDR's.
I asked an ebay seller once why he didn't just check his roll of unsearched cents with a V.D.B. showing at one end.He told me that he could make more money if he simply sold the roll as a mystery roll.I said,"Really?" He answered with,"Yes,really." Then I asked him if I could send the roll back for refund if I didn't open it.My idea was to examine the V.D.B. If it was the wrong V.D.B. for the S minted coin.I thought I would be clever to possibly do this even though it would cost me a bit to send the roll back if I determined that the end coin is not an SVDB.Of course,I didn't disclose to him what I knew about V.D.B.'s being "different."
He didn't answer me on the second question and I was beginning to think we were buds.
Carry on,everyone.Just thought I'd offer my story about the roll as a short reprieve from the Chronicle set madness.
I saw a pre-sale price on ebay of $704 from one seller.; Another seller has already pre-sold three of these one-per-household sets?

<< <i>I had a rough time with my back for a while (but getting better now) and even though I had to dump a large part of my collection to pay for medical bills, I decided to grab one of these as a way to ease back into the hobby and hopefully build back up my Lincoln collection again. Looking forward to receiving it as it looks really nice. Admittedly I'm a sucker for some of the Coin and Chronicles series (I'm probably in the minority here as I bought the Ben Franklin Chronicles set as well and and really liked it).
WF >>
I bought a couple or three of the Ben sets also.. sold two of 'em on eBay sealed, so long ago the food I bought with the money I got is in the ocean by now, if ya know what I mean.. kept the third one and opened it.. the reproduction of Poor Richard's Almanack (yes, that's how it's spelled).. alone was worth the price of admission..
Sometimes the "goodies" tossed into to some of these special "Modern Crap" sets are almost nicer than the coin(s)..
I can't hack $1400+ for the UHR.. but I wanted the book.. and they don't sell the book without the coin.. so last month, for no particular reason, TWO of the UHR books, sealed, showed up on eBay the same day.. two different sellers.. I put them both on my watch list.. they closed within a couple hours of each other.. one of them sold for $56.00.. the other sold for $9.50.. guess which one I got
I have not seen a UHR book listed by itself (without the coin and the fancy box) since then..
I finally did see some UHRs (in PCGS slabs).. at the Long Beach show last month.. real purty, but man, that coin is a month's rent.. I'll just enjoy my $9.50 book that other folks had to pay $1200 / $1300 / $1400 (they just raised the price again).. to get..
Half of me wants to flip the Lincoln set whenever it shows up, because I could use the cash.. the other half of me wants to rip off the shrink-wrap, and enjoy the goodies that come with the five coins..
