I hope the IP address does not come into play since 4 sets are gifts for the niece and nephews and one for myself
I hope not either because I had to order for my father and two friends who couldnt get to their computers by 12:00. SO I ordered them all from my computer using their logons.
The Mint hit my plastic overnight for the 2009 Mint Set I ordered along with the Lincoln set.. they charged the Mint set price plus Postage.. they did not hit my plastic for the Lincoln set.. yet.. so I suppse they'll ship them separately, even though I only had to pay one $4.95 Postage charge, since it's $4.95 per order, not per item..
Remember the early good old days, way back in the 20nd century.. when all Mint Internet orders were shipped for free?.. Then CW's Letters to the Editor column filled up with angry whining rants from the grumpy old men no-tech crowd, complaining that people who ordered by computer didn't have to pay shipping, while people who ordered by phone or mail did.. they probably whined to The Mint too.. so instead of doing the right thing.. making shipping free no matter how you order, they did just the opposite.. cripes.. it's not like they don't have enough built-in profit in everything they sell.. $1439.00 for an ounce of Gold.. nine bucks for $1.00 worth of cents..
Geeze Louise.. you can go onto CompUSA or one of those places and order a freakin desktop computer system with monitor that weighs over forty pounds and they'll ship it for $1.99.. there's an outfit called Meritline that sells a bajillion different kinds of electronic gizmos and they ship EVERYTHING for free.. EVERYTHING.. no catches, no gimmicks, no coupons, no nuthin.. they ship from two locations.. So. Calif., and Hong Kong.. and even the stuff they sell that ships from Hong Kong.. no shipping charge.. ever..

Doesn't the Mint usually add a revision to the order page before a sellout that says something like"If you order this product you will be added to a waiting list."We haven't seen that yet and they usually continue to accept orders for a while after that.

yep,
But I think this is the first real hot item since they changed shippers/inventory stuff. I wouldn't doubt that people ordering now would have their order not filled.
I mean, our little order number counting system is flawed, but it has proven to be pretty close before, so I can't see how they are not sold out yet.
Here is the skinny on ordering two of these units with the same billing address. I ordered two of these. using two different credit cards delivering to two seprate address. I made the bookings from the same computer using the same billing address on both credit cards. I just received an email from US Mint stating they are cancelling ONE (so far) of my orders.
The ordering was kind of agonizing for me yesterday. In fact,I gave up after the first 45 minutes of trying to place an order. Two hours later I managed to place the order for a single set but first had to get rid of the "2" i spotted in the quantity box.
The mint should have something in place so this can't happen while attempting to order a "one per household" item,in my opinion. The only reason I caught it before submitting was because the amount of money due was seen as twice as much as for a single set.
Quick check out is a nice feature so kudos to the mint for that.
Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.

Our system has never been accurate in the past, why would it be now. I believe, as a few others did, that the sell out will not occur until later today or tomorrow. This is not the only Mint product available for sale. Proof & unc. sets are still running into the thousands of sales per week. 60 - 65% of total sales for this product may be more accurate.

Yes.. for starters..
Their central scrutinizer is probably grinding through the orders, culling out the duplicates, authorizing charges on CCs like crazy, trying to figure out who was naughty and who was nice, and the cancel box vanishing is usually a good FIRST sign that you'll PROBABLY get what you ordered.. the earlier you ordered, the better your chances.. still no 100% guarantee until you see Tracking information appear on your order page and / or you get an email that your order has shipped.. just because it says the set's not shipping until 10/30 doesn't mean that date's carved in stone.. they could start shipping earlier.. it happens.. until such time as you get charged / see a Tracking number / get an email that it's shipped, though, they can cancel any order for any freakin' reason they like..

Usually your cancel box is there up to when your payment method is verified and the shipping invoice is printed.
This usually takes a couple of days from the order day. There is first a short period of "on hold" then "in process"
It is unusual to have them on Backordered and the cancel box gone.
Here is the usual order:
First the order goes "On Hold" until payment method is verified: billing address and shipping address match. Then the order goes "In Process" and the items are either "in stock and reserved" or "back ordered" with cancel boxes there. Then the order goes "In Process" "in stock and reserved" with cancel boxes there. Then the order goes "In Process" "in stock and reserved" with cancel boxes gone. Then the order shows shipped. Sometimes your card is charged right away and sometimes it gets charged when delivered.
The one thing most here will agree to is the Mint does what they want, how they want, and when they want to.
What they did yesterday doesn't mean they will do it today or tomorrow.
The UHR's were shipped out in any order, forget FIFO, some who ordered on day 2 received them before ones ordered in first hour.
Those who are ordering from the Mint for the first time or first time in a long time just sit back and wait.
You will get them when you get them, maybe.
In 2008 I put in an order for a friend. I used his credit card info, his home address, all info was his, when I got to the checkout page it required an email to send confirmation. My friend doesn't have a computer so I used my email. Guess what, his order got cancelled.

Umm.. what's the other 35% of other stuff people would be trying to order, such that they would put up with a Web site crawling so slowly, and phone lines that went nowhere?.. Is there any other offering that someone would put themselves through that kind of agony to buy before it sold out?..
There's nothing else there that's just about to sell out, or is limited to 50,000, one per, is there?..
Based on that, methinks your "possible 65% of those for the Lincoln" is way low.. if I didn't want the set, and just wanted a Mint Set, or a regular Proof set, or a roll of this or that.. I wouldn't sit there for an hour or two trying to get an order in, or trying to get a human (or something vaguely resembling a human).. on the phone.. I'd just say da heck wif dis.. and come back and order in a day or two.. when the Lincoln set frenzy was over..
Don't ask me WHAT percent of the around 67,000 orders in one day were for the Lincoln set.. but I'd guess it's well over 90%..
I've got the time to sit here and keep up with this thread, and still do other computer and "real life" stuff, since I am currently among the growing class of people who ARE OUT OF WORK!.. but worker bees don't have the time.. and out of the bajillion coin collectors, how many even know about the Lincoln set?.. Of those who know, how many want one?.. Of those who want one, how many tried to order one?..
How many are reading this (the percentage of lurkers is usually multiples of the percentage of people who ever post anything)..
These are, of course, rhetorical questions, since nobody knows for sure, but based on what else The Mint is selling right now, the ONLY thing that I see that would account for a virtual Web / phone melt-down yesterday would be Lincoln sets..
Of course, I could be wrong..

you people who are making these magical faery dust phone calls to Miss Tinkerbell Miracle Worker who can switch your order from "on hold" to "we love you and we'll ship it right out" with some Magical Mystery incantation.. must lead charmed lives.. i talked to another rep this morning who, speaking in a dialect somewhat resembling a combination of Ebonics, English, Klingon and gibberish.. told me there was nothing she could do and i'd just have to keep waiting because "the computer is way behind.." .. i wish i had the NAME and badge number of whoever you people are talking to.. someone there who doesn't have the IQ of a fencepost, who can work this magic with my order because i called three times this week, and got the same answer from each one of them with whom i spoke.. i'm "verifying" all the same information with them, and they all give me the same "nuttin' we can do about it blame it on the computer it's way behind blah blah etc. etc." answer.. even if i had a rep's name and Badge number, and called and said i needed to talk to her because Kang and Kodos abducted her cat and it burst into flames, they probably wouldn't switch me to her anyway..
they keep saying don't worry be happy the computer will get to you and you'll get your set and other stuff you ordered it's not going to be given to someone else we haven't charged you for it yet anyway.. i keep a nice, pleasant, polite tone with them.. i don't get angry, i don't scream and yell.. and it's like p!ss!ng into the wind.. and every time i log in here, someone else posts that he made a phone call and chanted some Freemasons thing and blammo.. a second later Fedex is knocking on his door with his package of joy..

What the hell is going on. I had two orders. one came back as cancelled with no excuse from the mint. Then while I was reviewing my account. the second one came back as suspended. I am sure it was because I ordered two sets. So I quickly jumped in and ordered one more because I dont have any. Just when I completed the transaction I look at the first one and it is back online with a cancel now showing. I booked that one at 2pm yesterday. So now I had to go back and cancel the waitlist one before they canceled both of them. What the hell!

According to my calculations ... total sales are around 67,000 ( lowest # 33159000 ... highest posted 33222000 .... with a possible 65% of those for the Lincoln ... possible 44,000 sold. May not happen until tomorrow...Not as fast a sellout as some predicted and may not be such a super hot flipper product in a week or so. >>
Umm.. what's the other 35% of other stuff people would be trying to order, such that they would put up with a Web site crawling so slowly, and phone lines that went nowhere?..

<< Just checked, I am moved from "on hold" to "in process"
I called yesterday and was told March 1st for everyone and everything. I called again this morning to "Verify" shipping address and credit card number. She looked up my order and verified all the info and said I was past the ten day wait and she would send the order on!
Oh, order number 27807xxx. >>
27802xxx ordered between 9am and 10am, on 15 January, 2008..
you people who are making these magical faery dust phone calls to Miss Tinkerbell Miracle Worker who can switch your order from "on hold" to "we love you and we'll ship it right out" with some Magical Mystery incantation.. must lead charmed lives.. i talked to another rep this morning who, speaking in a dialect somewhat resembling a combination of Ebonics, English, Klingon and gibberish.. told me there was nothing she could do and i'd just have to keep waiting because "the computer is way behind.." .. i wish i had the NAME and badge number of whoever you people are talking to.. someone there who doesn't have the IQ of a fencepost, who can work this magic with my order because i called three times this week, and got the same answer from each one of them with whom i spoke.. i'm "verifying" all the same information with them, and they all give me the same "nuttin' we can do about it blame it on the computer it's way behind blah blah etc. etc." answer.. even if i had a rep's name and Badge number, and called and said i needed to talk to her because Kang and Kodos abducted her cat and it burst into flames, they probably wouldn't switch me to her anyway..
they keep saying don't worry be happy the computer will get to you and you'll get your set and other stuff you ordered it's not going to be given to someone else we haven't charged you for it yet anyway.. i keep a nice, pleasant, polite tone with them.. i don't get angry, i don't scream and yell.. and it's like p!ss!ng into the wind.. and every time i log in here, someone else posts that he made a phone call and chanted some Freemasons thing and blammo.. a second later Fedex is knocking on his door with his package of joy..
unfreakinbelievable.. where's the Tylenol..

No the record was the 80,000 first spouse gold coins wash/adams which sold out in 8 hours...Prior to that I think it was the 10,000 AGE sets which had sold out in less than 24 hours....I'm working on a record as well involving a tomato, but that's a long story...

Does it occur to you though that the person you asked to order the extra set for you might recognize how cool this set is and want to keep it for themself? >>
This happened to me. I asked my mother in law to order one for me. When she saw it she loved it and wanted one of her own. She called her parents and had them order one for her
I have told my friends NOT to open the box!
Me too. I've done this with many high-demand US Mint products without any problem. My friends that care about coins I tell to order for themselves. Those who could care less about coins do it as a favor and have done so for me since '06.
