If the much respected TPG holder "makes" the coin,it seems to me that the "stately, well designed OGP," in this case,"makes" the set of coins.
At a coin show I attended in the '80's, I was witness to the sickening sight of a dealer smashing Carson City GSA dollars out of their government packages, presumably so that the coins could be submitted for slabbing.
The thought that was going through my mind as I observed this was "doesn't this moron have any sense for the history of this coin,as it is, in the package (stately and well designed,in my opinion) containing it,that he is now smashing to smithereens?"
Is there a logical basis for forever destroying the potential history of the Chronicles set by removing them from the original OGP and having them put in TPG plastic,no matter which TPG plastic? This set should forever stay intact with all items, just as it leaves the mint and arrives at your door.
If I can save just one Lincoln Chronicles set from being bas....zed,this post will have been worth it.
"...have one of the TPGs grade the set in the original case..."
This question comes to mind. How will the TPG know for sure that all of the items in the original case are,in fact, original?
I encourage people to learn how to grade/evaluate numismatic items for themselves as much as possible. This is how one can grow in the hobby.
If my Lincoln set were for sale,I would simply put a price on it and go from there.Who cares about 70 or 69 or 68 on an item like this? The only number that matters to me if selling an item is how much one will pay me for it.

Comments in some of the previous posts expressed concern about third party grading services like NGC or PCGS creating some type of special label for the coins in the Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set. As a few readers pointed out, this seems somewhat ridiculous since one of the most appealing aspects of the set is the packaging. To take the coins away from the packaging, and instead put them in a holder with the words "Coin and Chronicles Set" seems kind of silly.
I contacted NGC and PCGS to try to confirm their intentions for the set. NGC quickly responded that coins in the set will not receive any special recognition. If submitted, they will be graded as regular proof coins. PCGS has not responded to my inquiry.

PR69 or 70 does not matter (of course), as long as there aren't major issues with the coins. One of the cents I got with the regular proof sets had a lot of obvious, ugly white spotting on it.
I'm hoping that these cents were selected as higher quality coins out of the proof cent pile ...
Of course the other question is will the Leather-like set holder cause the coins to tone over time?

My order status is now "In Stock and Reserved" with no,i repeat no, sight of the dreaded cancel box.
My order disappeared for a time over the past weekend,as if i had made no order at all.I was all prepared to call customer service yesterday (Monday) if i didn't see the order back in there Monday morning. I didn't think it was necessary to call them though since I did see my order back in there on Sunday.
They must have just temporarily pulled my order out of the customer information database, along with many others,as part of their order fulfillment process.

Moisture mixed with substances that find their way onto a coin's surface will cause the coin to tone. The best thing one can do is to take measures to control the humidity of the coins' storage environment. If one lives in a high humidity state like Florida,my recommendation is to move to a low humidity state like Arizona.
To answer your question, I will go out on the limb and say that the toning that occurs on the Chronicles set coins should be minimal provided that the coins are stored properly. If toning does appear as the decades go by,let's hope it's attractive.
Just kidding Floridians about moving out of Florida.. One thing that a collector who lives in a high humidity state can do is make sure there is plenty of dessicant in the collection's storage environment.

Not yet...ordered..12:50....SO...are they doing first in-first out ?..Those that posted shipped, can not tell if ordered first or near last of ordering time........Not a big deal since it will take aweel to get here.
Did any of you people pay the ridiculous price for "expedited shipping" (over-night Fedex) on this set?.. or combine it on your order with enough other stuff (like Gold).. to automatically get free over-night Fedex?.. Just curious..
As far as the "simulated leather" case the set comes in causing toning.. well.. who knows.. it depends on what plastic(s) it's made of.. but if they mixed in some of that "gorgeous rainbow toning fairy dust" stuff with whatever the non-leather leather is.. I wouldn't mind..
As far as eBay "per sells" {{hee hee}}.. here's the current list, based on a keyword search of Lincoln Coin Chron* with the newest on top.. as you scroll down, and see one that went for $499.00.. pull your jaw back up.. that one was for three sets.. the highest pre-sale price is still $349.95, from 15 Oct., 2009..
I'm not gonna "per sells" mine.. I'm not gonna slab it.. I'm gonna open it, hope the coins are decent (as opposed to bleah!, not as opposed to indecent).. take it out to dinner, buy it a box of candy and a dozen long-stemmed roses, then bring it home and KEEP it.. gasp!.. yes, I said KEEP it!.. heretic! If, back in 2001, Senator Ben "Nighthorse" Campbell couldn't push a bill through the Senate for an additional run of Buffalo $s, then the chance of The Mint producing more than 50,000 Lincoln Sets is probably less than zero.. and I agree with whoever said if you don't like the quality of the set you get, and you return it for an exchange, you'll probably get tossed into the pool of tortured souls in the waiting list area, and you won't get a replacement set.. more likely, a refund..

I hope so! I personally don't feel confortable selling something I don't have.
ebay should have had the good sense, from the get go,to not allow pre-selling of anything on their venue. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how problematic allowing this activity can be for people.
I once sold a coin on ebay that the buyer listed for resale before I even got the money for and was able to ship! Is that cheesy or what?
Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.
My order went through and I got the confirming email at 9:12 PT / 12:12 ET.. i.e., twelve minutes after sales of the set started.. charge appeared yesterday, cancel box went away yesterday, shipped today.. (or at least handed to Fedex "SmartPost [tm]" who gives it to the USPS, who straps it to a three-legged burro, points it in my general direction, and whips its poor behind).. coaguatlating the data posted here so far.. this doesn't look exactly like FIFO.. did anyone get a confirming email time-stamped earlier than 12:12pm ET last Thursday?.. I saw one other person post that his was the exact same minute.. but I don't remember any earlier.. maybe we'll get the first strikes off fresh dies and the coins would grade PR90.. or.. maybe those 50,000 Lincoln $s, and the cents were all just lying around their dusty warehouse / packing / assembly area for weeks or months.. while they waited for the fancy non-leather cases to arrive from China or Zimbabwe or Jupiter, or wherever they were made..
And now for something completely the same.. waiting..

Mine shipped and my brotherinlaws shipped already but my dad ordered 10 minutes beforehand has not shipped. His was ordered at 12:28. His neighbor ordered one too around the same time and hers hasnt shipped either. I'm wondering if orders with similiar addresses are flagged.
