I ordered one yesterday and it stated in the email back ordered 11/13 and my wife ordered one today and hers states back ordered 10/30? How can that be. Anyone else notice this?
<< <i>Just curious, are any dealers here pre-buying the Lincoln Coin & Chronicles Set? >>
Not enough money in them for the big shots. It will take awhile to see where the price levels off. I remember a group here on the board bought a large percentage of the Washington FDCs. They started selling at a low price and depressed the market. After they finished the market rose and I was able to sell mine for way more.

I believe it was FLbill & a buddy of his. They managed to buy about 4% of the total produced. If my memory serves me correctly, the price for the Wash FDC did not depress until the Mint restricted the # per household with the Adams or Jefferson. Oh, yes, those were the good old days.
"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."
I ended up owning about 23 US Mint Sealed (50 Unit) boxes of GWFDCC at one time or another + hundreds of loose units.
I sold almost all of them.
I'm left with about 200 celophane sealed GWFDCC units with tons of mint errors + 20 or so sealed units + Box #1 of 1,000 that Casman got from the mint and sold on EBay for almost $3K to another guy.
Anyway, I got (4) of these Lincoln sets. ..just 4 ?....Boy, ...I miss the good' ol' days....
<< <i>If my memory serves me correctly, the price for the Wash FDC did not depress until the Mint restricted the # per household with the Adams or Jefferson. Oh, yes, those were the good old days. >>
That is exactly right! Because me, Florida Bill, his buddy and a few other guys controled a large portion of the supply (before the Mint placed limitations on the later issues), the George Washington First Day Coin Cover was fetching up to $45-55 per unit even after Jefferson and Adams had released!
Well,I ordered this set on Thursday and received an email from them acknowledging my order.I have an order number,of course, and didn't try to beat the system by ordering more than one set.
There was a blank screen for my receipt on their site after I placed the order so I thought that was kind of strange. If I had seen that appear I would have made myself a copy of it.
Anyway, thanks for your comforting words. I'm not going to be very happy if they lost my order and tell me tough luck or something like that.

Managed to get two, made my sister-n-law dial till she got though, and paid her $20. I was lucky and placed my order at 12:35, after dialing 100 times. I had to sneak out of the office, very determined to get one. scott
No sales figures in David Harper's weekly Mint Stats column on the NN site.. but that's because he wrote the column on 14 October, 2009.. the day before the sets went on sale.. so they'll show up in his chart next Friday, but he discussed Abe in his "The Buzz" blog on the same site..

No, just forgot to enter that. Good catch. Few people have a static IP (permanent). Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) has a range that it provides to it's customers. This is called a dynamic IP and it can change to a different IP within your ISP's range. Your ISP knows how to find you because of your router/DSL's machine address code (MAC). Most folks with 2 or more computers in the house have IP's that start with 192.168I.XXX.XXX, This is a private IP and never goes across the internet. In fact if you have a laptop and use it at home then at a WiFi hot spot, the IP will be different. The packets your computer sends and receives contain information (including IP and MAC) so info know how to get to and from your computer.
Bigger businesses use private addresses as well (internally). So to the outside world that company might appear to have a single IP. This is why the Mint will not use IP's (or phone numbers) to determine "household" limits. It too hard to pin a single person or physical address to an IP when there are much easier ways to determine (as previously mentioned) the person (vis a machines) address. Feel free to use the same computer for multiple orders so long as your billing/mailing addresses and CC # is different. Hope this helps.
Not to be evil or anything...but if these sets are accepted for grading by the third party services, what would prevent someone from then refilling the empty capsules with coins culled from other sets and selling it as an original Lincoln chronicles set? And in that same vein...is that a weakness in the future potential gains in this set...namely the lack of a unique coin (that couldn't have been acquired elsewhere) within it?
Also, if anyone's interested, my wife's "duplicate" order, placed in the first 3 hours, was cancelled late Friday afternoon. The only point of commonality with my order was the billing address...so they are checking. And the speed of the cancellation was surprising.

I've just never had a duplicate order cancelled for any Mint product within 24 hours before! This must be a really hot issue that's being scrutinized very closely!
My order went through at 12:37pm EST on Thursday and here's my current status: Order Status: Your order request is in process. 1 unit backordered. Expected to ship on 10/30/2009. Cancel box still there.
I had one cancled the first day as well. I had a mint acccount in my wifes name but my name on the debit card. After placing the first order I worried it might not ship because the shipping name did not match the card name. So I changed the mint account name to mine and reordered. The second order was later cancled by the mint. The one thing I did learn was in the 22 min. between orders the mint averaged 125 orders per min. So if this was the pace from noon to my 3:07 order and 100% orded the set that still puts my order at about halfway thru the 50,000.
At this point, if and when I get my set, it's staying sealed until all the TPG's have determined they're marketing plans. PCGS could be planning on a special holder....this would be the only way to designate the set as an original issue of all 5 coins. Anyone else think there is something in the works?????
ditto.. so "Backordered, expected to ship 10/30/2009" changed to "in stock and reserved" in the last couple of hours.. welcome to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, US Mint-style.. But I still won't believe I'll get it until I see that Tracking number, and get a "We shipped your order so calm down, already.. geeze.. you collectors.. chill.." email..

I checked "Track Order" a few minutes ago and see nothing. It's as if I made no order at all?
I'm hoping they pulled my order out,are processing it,and it's just a matter of time before I see it in there again with a different status.
If I don't see it back in there by Monday,I guess I'll call customer service for an explanation.
