<DIV class=datalabel> I think the delivery date from the mint of 10/30 is just that, according to my delivery confirmation-shipped on the 20th; delivery due on the 30th.......
Perhaps they are doing with FedEx what they did with DHL in the past. The freight company takes the shipment to USPS bulk centers and they then take over delivery. My tracking # linked to USPS directly.

Mine must've taken a few laps around the warehouse while waiting for the truck.. and lost half a pound.. weight changed to 1.3 pounds..
As far as Saturday delivery.. they deliver mail on Saturdays.. the USPS will deliver it.. not Fedex..
Order placed and confirmed at 9:12 am on 15 October, 2009 for one 2009 Mint set, and one Lincoln Set..
Current Tracking status::
- The Mint set left New Berlin, WI, at 10:23 pm on 19 October, 2009.. with an estimated delivery date of 26 Oct., 2009.. no updates since then..
- The Lincoln Set (weight changed from 1.8 lbs. to 1.3 lbs.).. left Fedex facility in Indianpolisolisosislsisois, IN, at 3:38 am on 21 October, 2009.. with an estimated delivery date of 28 October, 2009..
Next time, I'll pay the extra $1000.00 and have them affix a GPS locator unit to each package.. NOT..
If they'd use USPS Priority Mail instead of this goofball system.. transit time would probably be two days..

I realize that. It's just that even the FedEx SmartPost takes 4 days to get it to my PO 3 miles from me instead of 3 for ground to my house. I don't understand the additional time.
<< <i>Saturday delivery??? >>
Since these get dumped at the local post office for their final delivery, it'll get delivered whatever day the PO is open.
If this were FedEx ground, it'd still have saturday delivery available, but FedEx ground doesn't deliver on mondays. This is not relevant to these shipments, but I thought I'd point it out.
Fedex ground delivers Monday - Friday, Fedex HOME (which I believe was evolved from the old RPS - Roadway package service) delivers Tuesday - Sat. Fedex Ground came from the purchase of American Freightways of Harrison, Arkansas several years back. Confusing, huh?

Is it possible that this page one post on this "official" LC&C thread has set the forum in a frothy frenzy over this Mint issue. Will Mr. Longacre actually receive one of these sets? He's obviously aware that his order# is a scosh high and may disqualify him. This could be a good thing, as he will once again remain above the fray and thus remove the terrible specter of hoi polloism.
As of tonight on eBay......the average set is selling for ~$150. I believe the frothy frenzy for these sets will continue to escalate over the next several weeks.

Plenty of pre-sales in the >$200.00 range.. one sold today for $299.00.. the highest price I can find for a single set is still the one that pre-sold for $349.95 on 15 October, 2009..

Thanks for posting those pictures, they are all excellent. I love the idea that you flip over the page with the picture of lincoln and you see the gettysburg address. I thought I might of had a great error with my set, I noticed a crease going across lincoln's head in his picture and I thought this might be an error, but it looks like it is the norm.

The photograph of Lincoln was taken by Alexander Gardner in February 1865. The image is available without the crease, not sure why the Mint would have selected a damaged copy of that photo unless they felt it added to a sense of "age".
Thanks for the pictures, they're great. When I was a kid and would find something in change that I needed or was special it was a great feeling. I am looking forward to getting this in the mail and having that kind of feeling again. My thanks to the mint for bringing that to me twice in the past year. The other time was the UHR. Two years ago when I finally got a nice Bust Dollar I felt that way too. When I get the last 2 coins for my 7070 I know that feeling will be there again. For me this is what it's all about. This is a great hobby, and I love sharing this excitement, and these coins with my kids. I have no problem with the flippers and the slab fanatics, but if you're missing the history, the art, and the joy of collecting you're really missing something special.
WOW, i was able to get 5 of these with friends and family just to flip them. but now i might want to hold on to them. what a great piece of history. who cares what there are worth.
The proof cents have an S mint mark. The Lincoln dollar has a P mint mark.

This photograph of Lincoln was the favorite of Lincoln collector Frederick Hill Meserve. Without him we wouldn't have many photos of Lincoln as most were simply thrown away.
On April 10,1865, Lincoln sat for this, his last portrait. This was the only print that the photographer, Alexander Gardner, made from a negative that had been cracked-the last exposure of the final setting. Gardner threw the negative away- the original print is in the Meserve Collection.
The cracked negative runs through Lincoln's head and proved to be most prophetic as this beloved president was assassinated four days later.
"The Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set arrives this week with a sellout number of 51,000. That’s 1,000 over the maximum allowed, but not to worry. That will be whittled back to the 50,000 by the time all credit card and other problems are worked through.
In fact, the Mint was still taking standby orders to add to the waiting list for days after the official ceiling was reached."
"I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, I won't be laid a hand on.. I don't do these things to other people.. I require the same of them.." - John Wayne, "The Shootist" (1976.. his final film)..
I think that prices will lurch upward once Coin World and other publications officially report the sell-out and the beauty of the coins and packaging become widely known.
I think this set slipped under a lot of people's radar.

Anyone seen a dealer (not eBay..).. ad price for the Lincoln Set in print or on a dealer Web site yet?.. You know, the big boys.. the usual suspects who buy those multi-page spreads in CW and NN.. I haven't.. but I've only checked a few Web sites a few days ago..
I'm gonna make a w.a.g. that when the ads DO show up, the prices will be in the $300.00 - $350.00 range.. although I could be horribly wrong.. but the "one per" limit means that to satisfy their own customers, dealers have to buy them from us.. us.. us.. and them.. them.. them.. (sorry, I was temporarily channelling Pink Floyd).. although as with past items like this, a dealer probably got every employee he or she had to order one and have it shipped to his or her home address..
Nice to see that red "Sold Out" sign finally go up..
