<< <i>LSU, at 1,500 cards+ (my 66 card sub participation will be a very small part of the time taken to grade all 1500+ items! For sure!) >>

Neil had 60 non-sports cards in our last group sub and Joe said what many suspected. One modern baseball grader gets the entire order and grades all the modern baseball cards. Then the order is sent to let's say a modern football grader and he/she grades the football. then the vintage grader comes in. Then the non-sport grader. Each time it switches hands, the order starts at the back of the line again. >>

Sorry guys, I haven't been able to post that comments on this thread lately. I have been busy surveying my 1988 Donruss and 1991 Fleer commons for the group sub III.

Wasted a whole weekend this weekend. It was my wife's B-day sunday and it ruined my entire weekend. Was not able to play in my saturday night poker game and missed playing golf with the guys on sunday. There should be a law that states that it is illegal for any apouse to have a birthday on a pretty spring weekend!

NO POKER OR GOLF!!!!!!!!!!! To make up for this atrocity I'm playing poker on Wed and Thurs. night this week along with golfing all day Sat and Sun.

Off Topic, I'm looking to purchase some un-cut box bottoms that have Dale Murphy on them. 86-87-88 Fleer, 87 Donruss, 86, 91 Topps, or 86 OPC. I want to hand cut them and possibly sub them in a group sub.

And I did not get to have any fun last weekend, read post above

If I were to bet on this message board, I'd take that bet in a heartbeat.

Now the question is: how much would I have to bet to put you all in?

Its funny that you used that number. I was hoping that the problem would be resolved before I got home from vacation so I decided not to mention it and cause alarm. There is a small problem with the group submission. The cards are logged in, but PSA created 3 new submission numbers and logged in our cards in strange groupings. They are logged in as follows:

    Submission 658000 - 477 cards
    Submission 4797714 - 477 cards
    Submission 4797713 - 318 cards
    Submission 4797715 - 228 cards

I contacted Joe and asked him to look into it. I sent the cards to his attention when I shipped them and included a note about the deal. I did everything I was asked to. Joe wrote back and indicated that he was traveling and that I should contact customer service. Seeing as how I am also traveling I asked him to look into it upon his return as it will likely be before I do. In fact, due to a windstorm here in Phoenix, my flight was overbooked and I was bumped.

Anyway...long story short, the group submission is on receive hold and I won't have a chance to look into it until Thursday. Before I sent in the submission I contacted Joe to let him know I'd be traveling and he responded saying that I should send it to his attn and he would take care of it. Apparently that didn't happen so I apologize. I trusted that there would be no problems since I crossed my t's and dotted my lowercase j's on this order.

Again, I apologize that this isn't going as smoothly as it should have.

Edited to add: I will keep everyone updated as I know more!

Very interesting Craig. Were the orders split up by era or sport versus nonsport? It's be interesting insight into PSA if it were that was because it would confirm the different graders for different eras theory

That's exactly what I assumed to be going on. I really hope that is not the case!! The cards were organized by submitter so it'll be a total nightmare trying to figure this out on the back end if they've effed it all up!!

Thankfully every holder has a sticker on the back with the sub # and line # so that PSA can put it all back in order. After all, there were a few cards that were submitted by multiple people.

    Ugh.
  • ElemenopeoElemenopeo Posts: 2,577 ✭✭

    Must... resist... complaining... about PSA...

    ...lest Boopots gets after me.

  • When cards are returned to you, you will receive a copy of the original submission sheets. So there shouldn't be a problem putting them back in order based on the submitter if you put them in alpahabetical order based on submitters last name. It may take a while but still should be too confusing. I had the same problem with the first group sub. They didn't seem to put the cards back in order based on the cert #. Took a while to sort. Only problem for you is the fact that there are 3x's as many cards as I had to deal with.
  • gumbyfangumbyfan Posts: 5,168 ✭✭✭
Bill, my concern is if they've split up the cards by sport vs nonsport and by modern vs vintage. The submission wasn't put together by submitter's name in alphabetical order. They were put in the order I opened the packages they came in...with one exception where someone requested to be first on the order.

I have a record of my submission sheets and the order I sent them out in. My concern will be trying to figure out whose 82 Topps Ripken is whose if they take them all out of order and put the Ripkens together. I don't have the list in front of me, but I believe there were 5 or 6 82 Ripkens in the order.
  • EagleEyeKidEagleEyeKid Posts: 4,496 ✭✭
    Wow, what a headache.
I can see this going in all directions. If it stays as 4 separate orders, there's the high
probability that they may be graded at different times and ready at different times.
One may be done in 20 days, another in 30 days, etc etc. Someone may have some cards
in one order, and half his cards in another and so on.
Either way, I believe Craig is a smart guy with a good head on his shoulders and will figure it out.
Let's just hope they put it all back in one order and it gets fixed....soon.

  • Craig, it will be a pain to put back in order but there should be no confusion on which card belongs to who. The first Ripken on the original submission sheet will have the lowest # on the PSA cert that is on the flip. The one that comes back graded the highest is mine image.

Edit to add: CRAP!! I know there were at least 2 Jerry Rice rookies submitted. The PSA 9 Rice rookie is also mine. image

EDIT AGAIN: I still have my cards in a PDF file. With very few exceptions, mine should be easy to find. Find all the 80s junk cards that have Greg Maddux mixed in and those are mine.

I just got an email from customer service. Could a couple of you check my math on the shipping cost? We had exactly 1500 cards with a total declared value of $25,000. If a couple of you could do the math and let me know what you think the total is, I'd appreciate it.

Also, I was informed that there is a maximum of 500 cards allowed per submission.
  • DavidPuddyDavidPuddy Posts: 3,490 ✭✭✭
Nice of them to let you know!

    I've got $373.30 No?

    100 cards declared value of $25K = 79.30
    1400 * .21 = 294.00

    294.30 + 79.30 = 373.30

    Edited for math error.

    Here's what I got: 1500 cards x $.21 = $315. $315 + $46.30 = $361.30 total shipping cost
    Matt

  • gumbyfangumbyfan Posts: 5,168 ✭✭✭
I just heard back from PSA and they are now saying the total declared value was $25,498. That's why there was a $33 difference in shipping.

I asked her to doublecheck their totals as I checked the totals and it came to $25,000. She has agreed to put the total value at $25,000 and our submission should now be on its way.

    Crisis averted.

Yes. I believe the submission was split into smaller groups due to their 500 card limit and not due to grouping by years or types.
  • StatmanStatman Posts: 597 ✭✭✭
The 500 max rule is good to know for the future if we do this again. Too bad they couldn't have told us this beforehand - however, it probably means the sub won't be mixed up too much. Maybe they'll pop faster broken up like this.

Since it is my sole goal in life now, to change this into a gambling thread. I'm going to offer up a proposition and take wagers on it

Craig, you said that there was 5 1982 Cal Ripkens subbed. Here my wager. I will give 50 to 1 odds that there was not five of these cards subbed in this group sub

    1. 1992 topps 105 Felix Jose
    2. 1992 topps 166 Geronimo Pena
    3. 1992 topps 341 Bob Geren

    Any Takers?

When you sub crap, you don't have to worry about someone getting one of your cards.
