I actually came close to subbing a Gantner. It was a 1983 OPC card which has a shot at a 10. I was afraid that if I sent him to the house of an uber-fan with a major case of man-love that he would get snatched.

Anyone have a guess when it'll be done? I think it's contest time for all those that participated in the group sub. I talked to Craig and gave him some ideas. Maybe he can formulate something or if anyone want to throw in their ideas. Examples: Guess the date the sub is done. Guess how many 10s in the sub. Guess how many 9s in the sub. Etc, etc.

The forcast for tommorow in north Alabama is Very cloudy with a good chance of tornados. I may just call in sick and do some weatherman watching. James Spann says that tommorrow could be a Red Letter Day for severe weather.
I really can't explain why, but I just love stormy days and when the tornado siren goes off, my blood starts pumping.
James Spann is the man(He knows every neighborhood in Alabama). Im in central Alabama(Tuscaloosa). The weather last night sent my daughters trampoline thru the fence and into the neighbor's yard.
I no longer get James Spann because I now live in the upper NE corner of Alabama ( Rainsvillle). I do get to listen to him on the Rick & Bubba show though in the morning.
I just saw the April specials - $5.50 for 1956-1971 and $4.50 for 1972 to present. This makes me think we could definitely get a better price on the next group submission if we decide to do one. I've got to believe we could do 2000-2500 cards @$4 ea and if we could bump it over 3000 cards maybe we could even get $3 per?
Who knows, but it is good to see prices even lower than the group price of $5 for this special (at least for the future).

I 100% agree! I tried to suggest that we try $4, but "I fell on death ears", in fact I was chastised a little for "over-expressing" my suggestion that someone close to Joe call him and suggest a $4 for a group rip price. (Think folks were afraid to talk with Joe, in fear of "blowing the group rip" by asking for a lower price.). Gee, Presidents of public companies are used to negotiations, and I did truly believe that Joe Orlando would have accepted a "four dollar price tag" for group rips.
I'm sure we can envision 1,500 + group rips on a continuous basis, so why not a lower price?
The problem I foresee is not getting a better price, but finding someone like gumbyfan (Craig) to do the group rips on a steady basis?
I cannot think anyone could do a better job than Craig! Can you?
I always thought that $4 would be a fair price for CU participants and PSA alike!
Oh well, I paid five bucks like everyone else, so I could participate in gumbyfan's group rip like the rest of you!
Pleeeeeeze listen to me this time,
four bucks! four bucks! four bucks!
rd
P.S. I cannot thank Craig (gumbyfan) enough for the great job he did (i.e., downloading cards for submission, packing & shipping, shelpping to the USPS, and to come, packing and shipping out all those individual participants' subs! Oh my!). I hope we all appreciate just how much effort Craig has put into this group rip so far, and how much work is still to come!
I think it was good to show that the group could put a big order together (1500+). Maybe it shows we are serious and it will be easier to ask for a lower price for the next time. I was happy to get the $5 price this time and appreciate Gumbyfan for putting it together.
This also show how many cards would be subbed to PSA if they axed the yearly fee. Most of mine would have gone to Beckett, if not for the group sub. And I know there were others in the group without a membership.
I am waiting for my stalker ping, to "remind" me of the "free" subs that come with the membership, that are of no use to me. Not to mention a book, I got for $7, and the pop report, which I can view from the registry, for free.
so what excatly is the benefit of paying the idiotic yearly fee?? PING?
I guess it is just a suckers tax, and I am all for that! more cards end up in BGS and now the ever popular SCG holders every year. Way to turn potential customers away Mr. O
<< <i>so what exactly is the benefit of paying the idiotic yearly fee?? PING?
I guess it is just a suckers tax, and I am all for that! more cards end up in BGS and now the ever popular SCG holders every year. Way to turn potential customers away Mr. O >>
I've always thought that this rationale was wrong and that the 6 "free" sub thing was perfectly ok...
but perhaps they should offer a membership level ($30/yr or so) that would allow members to only submit for the specials. The 6 freebies are really only good if you're submitting cards valued over a certain dollar level - since it's the equivalent of the $15 service. Maybe I'm crazy.
But I will say, if you loved PSA's service that much, I would imagine you'd bite the bullet and just join. You clearly are ambivalent about which grading company you use - and that's fine. Beckett/SGC have specials that are just as good as PSA's if you prefer them. But my feeling is that if you're so hung up on the PSA membership charge, you probably wouldn't be submitting all your stuff to them anyway if given the choice. If I'm way off, please point me in the right direction.
Well Robert (OAKESY25), what I fear is when you establish a "price point", let's say five bucks, and you think a $4 price point was a more realistic for a larger group rip,
Oh, But now! Yes, now you have to convince a "for-profit company", and their leader to give-up potentially $1500 in a future group rip (as CU participant's established, we CAN put together a large group rip in a short period of time)...
Does anyone think a "price point" set-up, like the example below would make sense?
under 1000 items .............................. $5 (large holders may be included in group rip for: $5.75, ...no T3's, autos)
over 1000 items ................................ $4 (large holders may be included in group rip for: $4.75, ...no T3's, autos)
I would suggest that those who send cards through a group sub should get together and decide what would be a fair "surcharge" to be paid for the person handling the subs. Something like 10-15 cents per card would be nice. I wouldn't cost each submitter much, but would compensate the member for all the leg work. If you are sending 100 cards through someone, I don't think that an extra $10-$15 would stop someone from sending in a sub, but it would be a nice gesture to the guy doing the "dirty work".
i finally got some nice 52's for the next grouop sub. and i see they won't be included. i'll wait them out. i hope you all do well

looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started
Alot of people, me included, used the group sub due to lack of membership or not enough cards to meet the minium card regs. The membership does not pay for itself unless you submit high dollar items. Do they really need a yearly fee? No. Take note PSA you would get more of my money if I could just sub cards whenever I felt like it. You would get alot more than the membership cost. I know am not alone.
I sent in 50's cards for the group sub so I still came out ahead. I want to hear from all of you guys that sent in the $4.50 range cards.
I think offering the person who would handle all the cards for a group sub would be a great idea. If the board decides to do the group sub again , I would definately be sending in some cards . I should be receiving my 18 box order from BBCE in the next couple days .

Unfortunately, due to the receive hold caused by clerical errors on the other end, I believe we are "officially" on day 2.
