Hey everyone. I was swept away on a wave of UHR excitement. Despite my initial opposition to the first strike "nonsense", I just shipped out my coin for a first strike holder. I spent about $100 in fees. Who knows if any of this will be worth the expense, but it's a chance I decided to take. I'm having fun, I think.

I purchased one coin. I told a co-worker, who has purchased a few items in the past for flipping, about the coin but I did not trump them up at all. I told him about the 20th Ann Silver coins, the first First Spouse coins, and the 08 rev 07 coins and he did ok on those. I actually told him I was only buying one and didn't really think there would be much $$ to be made because of the unlimited mintage and whatnot. He went out on his own and bout a few of them. I guess if he gets the FS on them, he made a good decision. I would say that he wouldn't have known to purchase them if I hadn't told him. So, he is probably going to be a flipper here...
I will not get anything for the coins he purchased, I don't even know what he is going to do with them yet. After he got them, I mentioned he should get them graded and he is going to listen to me, I just have to submit them for him.

Yep, add paypal fees.
I figured a while ago that with an initial purchase price of $1189 and selling for $1600 net you about $200 profit.
You ain't getting rich, but $200 is $200 for not doing a whole lot.
Just make sure you send CC company there money first..
I'm yet another person that received the coin outside the capsule! WTH?!?! I have had some bad deliveries from the Mint in the past, but this was insane. The capsule was closed and in its rightful place. The coin was in a corner of the display box, loose! I haven't had a chance to get a loupe on the coin but the quick, naked eye didn't show anything significant. The display box, just above and to the right of the capsule had some scuff marks on it....perhaps from the coin. What are these people doing!?!? Just throwing a coin in the box?
Also, I'm pretty unhappy with the Mint's new return policy. In the past, I've returned many proof sets with busted cases. And, on occasion, I had to return a proof set with a bad coin or a fingerprint on it (?!?!). In each case, I could ask for my shipping $ back and they would send me a check. Now, they explicitly dissallow any claim for return shipping. So, they can send poorly protected stuff and I end up taking it in the shorts with the return shipping! About 2 years ago, I had a silver proof set that was just evil...I had to return it 4 times before getting one that wasn't busted!
<< <i>Would PCGS let you know why a coin didn't make a certain Grade? Are there details available or can you pay a slight fee for the honest truth.. >>
You have to pay extra for the graders opinion, which is a one-line computer print-out. Something they should as part of the original cost in my opinion.

You're a casualty of the flippers, wanna-be dealers, and the MS/PR 70 crowd. The ones who played the game and bought 10s and 100s of items, looked for the best (or to see if precious metals went up instead of down within 30 days), and then returned all or most of the items.
If I were the mint, I wouldn't like that either. I don't like some of the changes they have done, but you can thank some of the folks on these boards for it, I bet.
For me, with the UHR, I must have gotten lucky. Coin was well packaged and in the right spot. No concerns. Looks nice too. Sorry to those that got coins that didn't.....maybe if some of the flippers didn't try to bust the system, things may have gotten through quicker and less problems for those that wanted to keep the coin

while informing them of what a local dealer told me to do :
<< <i>
the B&M dealer I took my coin to suggested I flip it.
return it
or
flip it
or
keep it
what do the masses say I should have done with it?
>>
<< <i>
<< <i>Great....more flippers who know nothing but trying to flip...so they can just complain when things don't go right.......great....I'm sure all the collectors who haven't gotten their stuff yet because others crowded it JUST to flip, appreciate it. >>
you're not talking about me.
I've already returned it.
in the post above I was asking what others would have done...
while informing them of what a local dealer told me to do -> flip it. >>
Nope, not talking about you.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
<< <i>I'm yet another person that received the coin outside the capsule!
Grrrrrrrrrrrr. >>
can you post that story here, as a comment?
