I'll ask again...why do all the people here keep calling the Mint (or PBGS, or whomever) to find out that status of their orders, then report back one of 3-4 same stories that the CSR's tell them. Over, and over, and over. And think that they're accomplishing something.
There was some funky problem at the Mint. For some reason, it delayed the shipment of the coins. Hopefully they're going out soon. The price you ordered them with is safe. That might be the cheapest avenue for getting one of these for a long time. You haven't been charged yet (and not, apparently, until AFTER they ship). Be patient. Getting yourself worked up over this isn't going to make them ship out any faster.
And there were no laws broken. They didn't charge your credit card on the 22nd. It sucks that the guy who ordered on the 25th got his before you, who ordered at 12:01.
I wish I had nothing better to do with my time than harass the Mint or it's agents.

With all due respect, obviously you have nothing better to do than to harass those who are trying to make a difference. You might be right; our efforts may be in vain. However, I cannot simply be subjected to poor customer service without standing against it. There's always that chance that things may change for the better in the future if we let them know that their lack of communication is unacceptable. If we do not let the Mint know how we expect to be treated than we have nobody to blame but ourselves. If the Mint was a private enterprise, they would be bankrupt. This is unacceptable, and I will not tolerate it. We need accountability and communication. Ok, I'll shut up now. Please join our cause. Thank you.

I can certainly appreciate people wanting to make a difference. I, too, am waiting for my UHR. But calling the mint repeatedly isn't going to solve anything (I'm talking about an individual, not the group collectively). Getting angry at the CSRs (which some people have probably done) doesn't help AT ALL. Trying to ge them in a "gotcha" doesn't do anything. When that CSR said "No UHRs have shipped yet," and we know that's not true, did the caller politely say "FYI, at least one shipped out a few weeks ago." or did they say "You're lying! A guy on the PCGS message boards got his and it's been graded by PCGS already!" Throwing around words like "lie" and "lawsuit" don't accomplish anything. How many people posted the email that the Mint sent out today? Five? Ten? What did that accomplish?
Yeah, if the books were the actual, original problem, and the Mint told us that on 2/1, we'd all feel a bit better, but people would still grumble that they should have used a better printer, or sent the coins IMMEDIATELY without the books, etc.
And yes, if the Mint was a private enterprise, they'd probably have serious problems if this was the way they ran their business. Although there are a number of companies that offered unique and/or highly desirable products who treated their customer base poorly, because they could, and were still very successful. One thing though, is that if this was, say, the Franklin Mint, you'd always have that little nagging voice in the back of your head telling you that "Something" might happen, and they'll go out of business, or the plant will burn down or something, and you'll never get your order. With the US Mint, at least you know that they're not going to go out of business.

yup, mint screwed up big time. i just got off the phone with yet another rep and she basically confessed off the record that the mint screwed up the first come/first serve basis. however, she and i had a long talk just before they closed, and i do feel a bit encouraged that the mint may make things right. she will also be contacting me again to give me future updates
Uggh. I can't believe how the mint is handling this. I spent nearly an hour waiting for pages to load to order at around 12:56, and people who waited hours or even days to order get their coins first. What bull spit.

In that long discussion did you get any assurances that some effort was being made to get orders to go out on the originally promised first in, first out basis or is it too much trouble now for them to go back and figure who was first to order?
my impression was that they're just gonna ship any which way they can and hopefully get enough out before March 11. i also get the impression that the mint screwed up the orders for those people who placed their orders during the first couple of hours. that's why many of us saw our credit cards get pre-authorized only to see the pre-authorization go away because they were gonna ship our orders but then were told not to. but if they can ship the first series of orders by March 11 then no harm no foul as far as i'm concerned.

When you do finally receive the coin put a hold on your charge for a few months. Obviously, the mint don't need our money to bad. Thats if they hit your card after the coin arrives which happens from time to time.
